  1. Thats cheap. I had quotes of 1,000 plus dollars a few years back to recover information from my hard drive. I have never had it done and someone here on the forum sent me a recover disc but this thing just stopped spinning. I now run two hard drives and one on software called ghost. Of course I have had no problems since doing that. My business was on the drive that quit so I have lost a lot of records but of course the pictures were more important to me then anything else. Like the man said "BACK IT UP" Jerry
  2. I knew you were having the mileage problem and that is why I didn't ask you specifically. Hate chasing things like that. Wish I could help, only thing I could do if you showed me where to hit it with a hammer I could do that. I am thinking the Vmax rear end probably going to cost you 2 to 4 MPG. But it's just a guess. I tried running my bike in 4th gear for a tank of gas and it was a little less but not much but pulling the trailer theres a change it will be about the same. Good Luck Jerry
  3. Yeah our local paper always has more HD's for sale then any other brand. Theres probably more of them on the road then any other but the ad's that I get a kick out of say something like. 2004 Tour Glide 20k miles, recent top end. Thats a little scary...... Jerry
  4. Good looking piece of equipment. Combining components seems to be the smart thing to do. Does it have GPS and real time traffic as well? Jerry
  5. There is a lot of options for holding the seat down but I too choose to not bolt it down. My big A** does a fine job. Jerry
  6. Sooooooo, what happen to the gas mileage when you guys switched to the Vmax rear? I hear what you are saying about performace and that would be expected but I haven't heard the gas data? Thanks, Jerry
  7. Yeah, what Mike said. I have never bought a new Venture but I try to buy a low mileage one and in my opinion 30 to 40 K is low mileage. I have seen several Ventures with well over 100,000 on them. I have run a couple up into the 90's myself.
  8. Thom, I need to find the bulletin the FCC put out about 5 -6 years ago about RF power. I think it was developed mainly for neighbors of Ham Radio operators because they were afraid of the RF. Once they developed the tables it sort of opened up the eyes of many operators when they found out about the dangers of RF mainly on the 2 meter and 432 bands but it it still a danger on the HF frequencies and the CB lies in that band. I have an amplifier that is capable of putting out 2,000 watts, I don't do it because we are limited to 1,500 on most bands and less on others. I'm not sure what you have for an antenna but nothing I have has oil in it except my dummy load which is used for tuning and testing. It does not radiate very far. A few hundred feet at most. Just because the frequency is in the 11 meter band, don't believe there is no danger. I agree that the microwave bands are much more danger but there is also a danger at 27 MHz. Jerry
  9. Well I been around high power most of my life and the only thing I have noticed is I have three thumbs on one hand but..... they are pretty handy at times being a carpenter. LOL I spent 5 years in the US Navy at transmitter sites with all kinds of power and I'm sure it wasn't good for me. Over the the desert in Africa we had two 800 foot towers with 100,000 watts of power about 500 feet from the building, another transmitter that put out 500,000 watts so I'm not to inclined to worry about a few hundred watts at the CB frequency. But I think it will cause cancer if you get enough of it. Jerry

    TIRES

I have a Dunlop Elite III on the rear of my RSV that has 19,000 on it with probably another 4 or 5,000 left. The tire has pretty hard rubber, hasn't slipped with me but I usually tippy toe around in the rain. I'll probably buy another when this one is gone. Jerry
  11. I couldn't find the calculator I was looking for but this one will work. http://n5xu.ece.utexas.edu/rfsafety/ It uses average power for the output so I just presumed 100 watts. 0.0 db gain, 2 feet away from antenna and the frequency at 27 MHZ. Even at these conservative numbers you can see you should be about 5 feet from the antenna to be safe, that's assuming everything is tuned properly. Hope this helps. Jerry
  12. There use to be a guy out in the east somewhere that was running 1500 watts on hf from his Goldwing. He had a trailer with a gas generator in it for power. Sort of interesting but like the guy said, do you want that much RF right beside you? There are some tables around for calculating the danger to you. I will try and find them and post them. Get the ham license and buy a 2 meter radio much better then CB anytime. By the way the standard CB is AM mode. Takes a lot of power to gain any range in that mode. Jerry W9FE
  13. Welcome Philip, I live just west of you over in Hebron, glad to see you found our site. Yeah there are some other sites but this is the best one. We have all the answers, if we don't know the answer we will make up something. Love that blue, very nice color. Jerry
  14. Yeah I'm not a big fan of putting that sort of stuff in my bike tires but I do have it in a skid steer tractor I have that has tires that act like magnetic for nails. But what a mess when you have to change one of the tires. I wouldn't think that a plug would work very good with all that slim coming out. Looks like that tire has been low on air for some time. Jerry Almost forgot, Jay is right, you can't just sweep that air out the door, you gots to pick it up and dispose of it otherwise it will cause you some more trouble later. Also, do you have bell on that bike? That could be the whole problem.

    GPS question

I just don't worry about it. Can't hear it over the tunes anyway. Jerry
  16. Thanks Jim and Happy Thanksgivivng, Jerry
  17. Steve, Sounds like something I've heard before. My wife and I celebrated our 40th this past August. Up until about 3 years ago my wife didn't ride either. Was afraid of the bikes and had ridden maybe twice with me through the years and each time she was scared to death. Well all of a sudden she announced she wanted to ride with me. The first time she went along we got caught in a down pour, she had no rain suit. She now rides quite a lot with me, not on long trips, she uses the friendly skies but it is most enjoyable to have her with me. She is now so comfortable on the bike she falls asleep at times. LOL Jerry
  18. I have followed all the threads about the brakes. I have had a few close calls with the braking system and of course it's mostly "operator error" for the reasons Rick Butler outlined. I just got around to looking at my new "Motorcycle Consumer News" magazine and it turns out there is a great article in it about braking and braking systems. I don't know if the article is available on-line but I will look. Good reading. Jerry
  19. I was half kidding but okay a 25 % increase, still seems to be a lot of HP increase for just increasing air flow. Also don't think these bikes dyno at 97HP, I can't remember but I think it's closer to 85 HP then 97 HP. My point is I don't think you can increase air flow to increase HP without increasing fuel flow. Of course I'm not talking about Turbo's, precooler's etc. Jerry
  20. I don't know. Let's see more air flow, less fuel usage, 1/3 more HP. Hummm, I don't think so. Of course you have to insert the $1,200 in the formula somewhere, nah still don't think so. But of course I have been wrong before, I think, maybe once a lot of years ago. Jerry
  21. Don, Actually he has a first Gen bike and I wouldn't think he would need the device at all. In my experience the first Gen bikes have excellent brakes. But you're right he only needs two of the units I think, one for the foot master cylinder and one for the hand master cylinder. Although I have done nothing to improve my brakes as yet I agree anything you can do to help them you should do. I'm still playing with the idea of linking the brakes as soon as I can get the parts together I think I need. That's scary isn't it? A carpenter working on designing a braking system. Jerry
  22. I know about it but really don't have much to say. I know some of the guys were going to try it but I don't know if they have had any saddle time with it or not. I am waiting for some test results from he guys before buying and I didn't understand in the beginning that you bought different ones, I thought there was just one with some sort of adjustment on it. Could get a little pricey if you buy three or four of them. If you get one post the results on here so some of the rest of us know what to do. Jerry
  23. Nope, not a chance. 1965-1970 USN. Jerry
  24. I believe Goose is correct, I also heard they had quit making the EII's and was surprised to see someone had a tire with a late 06 date on it. I have a E III on the rear of my bike and it has nearly 19,000 miles on it and I would guess I will get another 5 to 8K out of it. I think the rubber is a little hard but I like the ride and the handling. Good luck with the tires, Jerry

    Tail Light

I am presuming that is a brake light? Can you point us to a link or to the link where you bought it? Does it ever stop flashing and just become a brake light? Thanks, Jerry
