SheepSkins! I had one from Ikea but I didn't like it, wool was to long I think. Bought one from the Alaska guy and it works much better. More money too of course. Jerry

Be sure and scuff them suckers in real good. As I understand it the E3's have a hard rubber strip down the middle for mileage. Be careful, Jerry

Will it ever end or would someone please get a handle on these people. Jury Duty Scam DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT READING ! This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen. The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma , Illinois , and Colorado . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud. Check it out here: http://www.fbi.gov/page2/june06/jury_scams060206.htm And here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp

Not heard anything. Well I guess if you mix it half and half you would have 20W45:rotfl::rotfl: Sorry I couldn't resist. Probably true anyway. I don't think you would have any trouble mixing the two different weights especially if they are the same brand. I've probably done worse. Jerry

Owl, You talking about loading the carbs up with the cleaner through the air intake? Or maybe taking the fuel line off and letting the carbs suck the stuff right out of the can? Or is that a spray can. Not trying to be a smart ass Russ, just trying to clear up the instructions for the guy. Hear anything from Ohio? Jerry

I don't think it really matters. Most clubs only have about 10 percent of the people that actually do anything or get envolved. Seems like ours is more like 1 percent,,,,,hummmmm 1 percent, where have I heard that before? Jerry

Sea Foam, put it in at least 1/2 can to the tank. I have actually put a whole can in a tank. I would run a couple of tanks through with the Sea Foam in it if you can. Mine was so bad I couldn't even ride it, it had a stream of gas running out of it but if yours is not that bad you might get by with the Sea Foam. If that doesn't help I'm afraid you are going to have to take the carbs off and clean them. Probably got something or some varnish in the needle valve. Hopefully you are a little bit of a wrench. There is a very good article in the tech section of the Second Gen tech section on how to do this. Print out the article and follow it step by step and you should have no problem. Jerry

Chuck Ole buddy I hope you are in the basement. There is a tornado on the ground and headed for where Chuck lives. 1/2 mile in diameter and been on the ground for some time. I'm thinking about you, hold on, Jerry

Dam you guys are going for the record number of posts on one subject, I haven't read the whole thing but I presume it's only one subject. I really don't have anything bad or good to say about what you are doing with the car tires but back in the fifties and sixties we ran a lot of car tires on the old Harley's and they didn't have near the rounded edge the tires do today. I will say it got a little exciting sometimes in the curves because the old tires were pretty flat on the tread side. I see a lot of bikes with car tires on them, especially the ones with the V8 engines. With all that said I would not run a car tire on my bike but that's just me. Just be careful and know what you're riding on. Jerry

Elite & Venom mix?
BOO replied to Numb Knuckles's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I pretty much agree here. I have often ran different tires front and back but there is some that won't do it. I have a hard time throwing away good tires just to have the same manufacture. I also won't get into the tire argument years ago the Avon were considered junk by most of the riders I hung out with. (Read cheap). They now appear to have a good tire, lots of people ride on them but I'm a Dunlop man and have been for years, they have yet to give me any reason to change so I don't. Answer to the dirt road is NO, even the dirt tires are squirrelly on the dirt/gravel roads. Good Luck with what ever you do, Jerry -
Not sure where the info is on this. Did you check the Tech section? I shorted the ends of mine when I changed batteries a few years ago but I read later after I came here that the guys were using a resister to short the ends but I don't remember the value. Sorry, maybe someone else will show up soon with more intelligence then me. Jerry

It has to go to the other side of the clip as I recall. It only effects idle and maybe a little on the lower end of the slide as it opens. It does effect the mixture at idle so if that's the problem you are have it will help some. Jerry I went to the Tech section but could not find the article about the needle valve shim. Jerry

This the way I have mine wired also. I put the relay and did the connections inside the faring, works great. I also have my lights set a litte high so at night if I don't switch them down then the oncoming traffice gets blinded. Works great, Jerry

I have had a couple of the Triumphs. Actually the carbs are not much of a problem when they have been adjusted right and if he was to keep it original the carbs should work fine. The electrical is another problem, I didn't look it up but I think the 1950 model is a 6 volt. And the charging system sucks, not near enough output for running headlights full time. I'm not sure there is a fix for that but there are upgrades around for just about anything on the bike. If it were me I would change the electrical system to 12 volt and then you could put and electronic time ignition on it, make a much better starting bike as well as helps the down the road running. I currently have a 165 BSA lightning and it's 6 volt, pain in the you know what. Gonna have to change that one of these days. Luckily there are a lot of new parts and new old parts for these bikes. Jerry

Good luck Red on the ride and I hope you don't run into to to much rain. If you need anything as you go by, let me know I'll do what I can. Tell your daughter "Thanks" for what she does and keep her head down over there. We'll be thinking about her. Jerry

Yes sir you guys hit the nail on the head. 1. Be sure the Mic is turned the right way. and 2. It must be close to your mouth, touching your lips when you speak and speak up, don't yell but be sure you are talking loud enough to be heard. You might also make sure the connections are good and making good contact. A little resistance will just kill your output. Good Luck, Jerry

Now that is a new one on me. Can't say that I've ever done that and I've been riding a reaaaaaaallllll long time.:rotfl: I had 3 of the 1st gens before getting the 01, like Freebird said it is a different animal but I like it a whole lot better then the first gen. Mainly the setting position to me, I can ride all day on the RSV but the VR was tough on my back. And if you really like the twistes and do that a lot the VR is probably a better bike and it has a little more zip. The front end tends to waller some on the RSV but overall for me, I wove it!! Jerry

I've been running the E3 for about 20K miles now and it still has a lot of tread on it. I was thinking the tire must be really hard rubber to last that long but I have not had any issues riding through curves etc. I read an article the other day in a motorcycle magazine that stated the E3 has a hard rubber compound in the center of the tread and a softer compound in the edges so that would explain what I was thinking about the tires. I love the tire, but I was not able to find a E3 for the front. As far as the 404's, I usually get about 12K miles with them also and it's a pretty decent tire. Good Luck, Jerry
