I'm back from the airport with the boss in tow. Plane was only one and half hours late. We are sitting the room in the AC, damn it's hot down here. Jerry

It's not a very good picture, it was parked between the Venture and my wife's car. That dang car is always in the way. It was parked in the other garage and packed in so tight it would have been a picture puzzle just to find it. Jerry

I have this thing in my garage, hadn't riden it for 3 or 4 years. Lot of fun but long trips just is not in its future. 1965 650 Lightning. Jerry

Dan, No storms here. In a motel in Lexington, Ky. Been here for a couple of hours. Nice trip, little hot but okay. Looks like the storms will be gone tomorrow by the time I get there. My friend backed out so I'm solo until I pick Jane up at the airport tomorrow. Have one for me, see you tomorrow, Jerry

The local LEO's and rescue people around here tell you to make an ICE entry in your cell phone. Should be fine. Jerry

Randy, I sent an email to you but I signed it "Jerry" instead of "BOO". Presumed you would figure it out. Jerry

Well if you leave the shut off valve in one postion for a long time it sure is hard to turn and there is an O ring in there you can damage if it gets stuck. Was that an answer? Jerry

I know there is a lot of disbelief in my mileage with the E3 on the rear but I am going to post it again anyway. I went out and looked at the tire and my records. I'm getting ready to go on a 2,500 mile trip and the tire will probably be slick by the time I get back. I put the tire on 5/2/06 and the bike had 40,773 miles on the speedo. It now has 63,308 miles and I'm still on the same tire. By my math that's about 22,535 miles on the tire. A lot of the miles, probably at least half were Interstate riding and I understand there is a hard strip in the center of the E3 just for that kind of riding. I'm also the kind of guy that can get 10 to 12,000 miles out of a 404. Jerry Forgot to mention I mount my own tires on top of an open 30 gallon barrel with a couple of small tire irons. The rear tires I balance with a spare axle and a stand I made. The front one gets balanced with an electronic balancer. Guess what? The front has a little bounce to it at about 25 miles an hour. The rear runs perfect.

Sounds like you have a rubber roof. I would try and find out exactly what you have and go to a supply house and buy the proper adhesive to close the seam up again. If it is a rubber roof I'm surprised the seam has let loose, also this sounds like a warranty issue to me. It should have some kind of warranty especially since it was a short time ago. Jerry

Jane and I are planning on going on Thursday to that be rock in the sky...... If my friend can make up his mind about coming to Asheville, he might come along also. Jerry

Man that missile would be more fun than a person should have with your clothes on. Bet I could quieten down the parties down the street with that thing in my front yard pointed their way. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Jerry

Yeah, I too prefer to run 294 rather than 94. I feel a little safer out there. Either way you go you really have to pay attention to everyone around you. I also agree with the time frame. Sometimes I run the toll road mid morning and the traffic is not to bad. OR 4 am works really good. Just be careful and good luck with the new bike, Jerry

No I wish I was but I have other obligations. Hate to admit it but my high school class is celebrating our 45th reunion this weekend. I grew up in a little town called Shoals and I was just there few weeks ago with my son for their annual Catfish Festival. Some of the best riding around. My son and I spent the weekend of the 4th riding the back roads of Martin County. Jerry

Atwell, I am in Illinois 1/2 mile south of the Wisconsin border and about 30 miles east of Rockford. If you need anything just give me a call, my number is in my profile. I was just on the bypass around Chicago about two weeks ago, the only construction going on is on the south side and they still have three lanes south bound. Oh almost forgot there is also some construction just as you make the switch from 80/94 to I65, just a few miles though. The route down I 39 is probably an easier ride but I think it's probably one to two hours longer. If the traffic don't scare you take the shorter route. I'm going to Asheville in a couple of weeks and I will be taking the Chicago route around to I 65 and the same coming back. I will be in fact taking the same route this weekend when I go to southern Indiana. Take the route you will comfortable with and good luck, Jerry

Yeah my neighbor had his bike triked a few years ago and he gave away all the parts to another friend of mine. 1500 wing. Jerry

I don't know if there is a norm. My last bike an 89 was replaced somewhere around 29K. I think the 86 went to around 50 to 60k. My 84 had 90 some K and was never replaced unless it was replaced before I bought it at 6K. My 01 has 63K on it and not been replaced. I don't know what really causes them to go and I have never been a big light kind of guy either so it ain't like they get overloaded. Just one of those mysteries of life I guess. Jerry

Was at a Gander Mountain store near Kenosha, WI yesterday and when I was getting ready to leave a man his wife and their son came over to look at my Venture. He has recently bought a RSTD and had begun to ride again after several years of being off a bike. He has lots of questions and some issues with the new bike and his dealer (go figure) I was hoping he would have joined our group and been on the forum by now. I gave him the address and fed him full of BS about how nice you guys are so be nice if he shows up. Jerry

I can agree with that if we alter the wording to read "we all know the 1st gen IS the best design mechanically" Jerry

If I was repairing a scratch like what you have and of course I have not seen it I would do one of two things. 1. Go to a shop and have them prep and paint it. Let them mix the paint, I wouldn't even buy the premix paint. 2. Buy a good used top off Ebay or some where else in my color. I don't think you will ever get the results you want from a spray can or from trying to paint it yourself. I think that's the best way to get it out of your mind, otherwise every time you get on the bike you will look at the top of that bag. Jerry

We'll take 2, sounds like fun. Jerry

I found out the same thing recently. I had stopped to look at a truck that was for sale and tried to put the flashers on, didn't work except with the key on. Humm I'm thinking. Dummy me, a little while later I am riding down the road and notice my turn signal is on, try to cancel it, won't turn off, now what the hell I am thinking. Then the light came on (between my ears) and I realized the hazard lights were on. DUH...... Jerry

I have always had good luck with the guys down there but I never had to contact them about anything either. On another note I know you guys, even Don has done this before but if you have to threaten them with 5000 members to get them to do the right thing I don't want nothing to do with them even if their price is good. Like Goose at the very least I would be very careful dealing with them. Jerry

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with these folks, they're usually pretty good. A couple of time ago when I ordered from them the tires actually came from Dennis Kirk since they didn't have them in stock at the time. I don't blame you for not wanting to deal with them after getting treated that way. Good Luck and I have the tires arrive soon, Jerry
