  1. I'm not big on using lawyers, in my experience they just make things worse at times. Yes you can sue and when it finally is heard in court it could be a year or two from now besides having to take off work numerous times to go to court. The way I suggest is to try and find out the painters name and go get the parts yourself. I wouldn't want the guy to do the job now anyway I would just find someone else to do it. I had a similar experience several years ago. I was riding a Harley at the time and I got bummed from behind and the faring got scratched and cracked. I found a painter that could fix the fiberglass and match the paint on the bike. He must have had the faring for 3 or 4 months. I finally when and got it and took it to someone else. Only difference is I didn't need the faring to ride the bike. Good luck and remember sometime a little charm goes a long way. Jerry
  2. I think there's a song that goes something like "Give me forty acres and I'll.........." that's about how much room I need. Here in Illinois for testing purposes if the bike is under 500cc then you have to make a U turn inside 20 feet if over 500cc then you get 24 feet but I'm not sure I could do that, maybe. I didn't have to take that test when I got my license, more or less just took a written test. Been a while though. Jerry
  3. I really don't have much to add to what has already been said. I'm sure the 3/4 or 1/2 helmets will make you feel a little better with the enclosed thing. The thing I want to do is relate what my wife did. I have been riding most of my adult life but my wife always refused to ride as she was scared of the bike. Mostly she didn't like the leaning part, as long as we could have rode a straight like she could tolerated that. After being married for 38 years she announced she wanted to try and ride with me. The first summer was a little shaky but she hung in there and after getting confidence riding behind me she not is pretty comfortable behind me. She actually falls asleep from time to time and she really likes to ride. BUT she sure missed a lot of good riding through the years. Hang in there and ride every chance you get, it will get easier and soon your fear will just be a thing of the past. Jerry
  4. I don't hide one on the bike but in the past I have carried one in my billfold while out riding. In recent years I just carry one in my pocket 24/7 during the riding season. Most places I stop I don't even take the key out of the ignition. Most people can't find where the key is anyway, I always get a kick out of watching my dealer look for it when serving my bike. Jerry

  7. Congrats. You didn't mention who you were certified with but I have been certified with PADI since 1979 (dating myself again) great fun. Really loved diving on wrecks and there is a lot of them in the Great Lakes. Be careful don't get over confident. I haven't dived for about 10 years now for medical reasons but I have dived in some great places. I don't know if you can still do it but down south of St. Louis there is some old Lead mines that are really scary to dive in. You walk down 100 feet under ground and then dive another 80 to 100 feet, lots of chambers and places to get into trouble. Have also have dived the waters of Hawaii and the Florida Keys. Also dived under ice which was pretty scary and cold. Just be careful and follow the rules and you will have great fun. Jerry
  8. One of the fellows at the Asheville meet showed up saying his mileage was pretty bad, a couple of days later he had to replace the Stator and waaalaaa his mileage was good again. Jerry
  9. Like Squid said you have to make up your own mind. I just did a 2500 miles on a tire that already had 23,000 or so on it. Got to admit though I didn't look at it when I started back home because I didn't want to see how slick it might be. The picture below is a typical tire that I change out, just have to be careful in the wet. Your tire looks great but again that's just me. Heck I might put your tire on and run it a while. LOL. Good Luck, Jerry
  10. Bulb would be the first place if you haven't checked them. Check all the above. Jerry
  11. I have mine turned to the left side and it works fine. I didn't even think to tell the dealer which way I wanted it and he put it to the left. Straight on the front though. Oh and there is lots of places to buy the stem that don't cost an arm and a leg. Most places that deal with tires. Jerry
  12. It's just amazing what is on the internet. Things you never think of looking for. Amazing, Hope you guys are doing okay. Take care of that little gal, she is a sweet heart. Jerry
  13. Man talk about a rider, that's over 120 miles a day 7 days a weeks for the 9 years they been around, doubt that Lowel does that kind of mileage......... Bottom line though is maybe the engine is okay but the whole bike has 200,000 miles on it and like Goose indicated it needs to be completely redone. Jerry

    Balance or not

I don't know about the beads but I would say balance the tire especially the front. I axle balance the rear as Randy tried to do with a lot of success but I have the front spin balanced and even then every once in a while I will have a tire that has a little bounce at some lower speed. My current front tire was machine balanced and it seems to have a little bounce(wobble?) in left hand sweepers, not dangerous but there. Jerry
  15. My wife works for the local County Circuit Clerks office and she said they don't care if you ever cash the check. I didn't ask her but like most government checks it probably expires in 90 days or so anyway. The government is pretty stupid at times but the one thing they do well is collect money. Jerry
  16. I haven't had a ticket in several years (I didn't say I didn't deserve one) and last winter in Kentucky I got a speeding ticket. I have Geico insurance, they are not real happy that I got that ticket. So unhappy they raised my bike insurance from $187.00 a year to $526.00. Sounds like that is going to be the case for at least three years. Had I do it over again I would have drove back down to attend court and get the ticket reduced some how. I could have taken the driving school in Kentucky but I don't think that's available in Wisconsin but I think you can negotiate with the DA. Good luck, Jerry

  18. George, When I got home the E3 had just over 25,000 miles on it and I know there is some on here that don't believe the mileage but I live in Northern Illinois and I think there is only about 4 curves up here and I've found only 3 of them. But as an example the town to he south of me is about 11 miles away and there are 2 left hand sweepers and 1 right hand. The town to the east is a little less distance and has 1 left hand. And I do ride the interstate quite a bit traveling. Sooooo the bottom line is I think you will like the mileage you get out of the tire. It's a little noisy off straight line and there are no grooves across the center which concerns me in the rain. I have been tempted to try the Avon's but the Dunlaps have never failed me or give reason to change brands. I know you are going on a trip shortly so I hope you like the tire and they preform well for you. Nice seeing you and Bobbie in NC........and the new bike, Jerry
  19. Proves what I've been thinking all along, people are sheep and have not clue about whats going on in the world. Jerry
  20. I am assuming the card was taken at the motel? And I wonder if you turned in the information to the Manger? I had an issue with the company that owns the Super 8 last summer and they more less told me "tough sh*t". I hope everything works out okay, we have had credit cards stolen before but the card company took care of it for us. Good Luck, Jerry
  21. I must be one of the last ones home except for maybe ceedoo. I arrived a little after 3 CST this afternoon, 2,666.2 miles. Was going to take a look at the rear tire when I got home but I forgot to. Still has air so it must still be good to go. Forgot to mention, on the way to the airport on Sunday morning, a car turned in front of me in my lane, just a couple of hundred feet later I just missed a big O hunk of pipe by a few inches. Looked like a piece of the exhaust system from a semi, a big piece. Of course I couldn't see it because of the car running so close to me. It sure was good to be back in the Chicago traffic. We have 50 times more traffic up here and I would rather ride in it anytime then 5 minutes in the traffic down in Asheville. Jerry
  22. I hardly know what to add. This was one of the best meets I've been to. Renewed some old friendships and made some new friends. Randy kept saying "Here's the plan for today" and things went down hill from there. Very loose meet and everything turned out great. Rode a lot of nice roads, just as good as the Dragon if not better and they seem to be everywhere. Even the parking lot at the Texas Roadhouse was a challenge. I'm surprised we didn't have a big pile of scrap in the entrance. I think I did see one disappointed person, "Skid" Try as hard as he could he couldn't get anyone to challenge "Brown Sugar". What a great week, Jerry Forgot to mention, I'm not at home yet. I'm in Scottsburg, IN for the evening. Don't you know it takes us older guys longer to do some things.

    CB help

Damn I was going to bring mine but forgot all about it in the rush to get packed. Sorry. Maybe one of the fellows coming in later in the week will bring one. I bet Skid's got one being the Ham he is. Jerry
  24. Usually when the clutch is slipping it does it in the higher gears/4th and 5th but I suppose under certain conditions it would slip in the lower gears. I just did my clutch but if I were to do it again I would put all OEM parts back in it. If you want to put the stronger spring in that would be okay but I think it worth the time to replace the fiber disc's as well. I didn't like the different disc at all. By the way it's not an extra disc that you get with the kit, it replaces the smaller surface one. Good Luck, Jerry
  25. It's a secret. 131.... we are opposite ends of the building. Did you know all the rooms have single KING size beds? I also heard some little kids talking about some kind of monster in the pool??? Jerry
