I don't really want to admit it but I have breakfast on Saturday mornings with some mechanics and parts guys from the local HD shop. Was telling them about it but I don't think they believed me. I guess they know a guy that rides a Yamaha with a HD trunk but I have seen that before. By the way the HD guys call the trunk a tour pack and it is bigger than the Venture by quite a lot. The thing I can't believe one of these guys is a "Chrome specialist". Go figure. BOO

I was driving pass the local ice joint ,no I didn't stop, anyway there was a Harley sitting out front with a strange paint job for a Harley. What I mean to say is it was not a Harley original BUT it had a first gen truck on it, painted to match of course. I must say it sure made that Harley look good. Gives a new meaning for "Harley look-a-like":big-grin-emoticon: BOO

I think they are a legit company, at least Milwaukee Leather is. I see their stuff around in many of the local bike shops etc. I think maybe the leathers I have now came from them or at least from them under another label. Still there's no excuse for not answering a question from a customer. Good Luck, BOO

Carburator adjustment to sea level
BOO replied to SkyKing's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree, I have ridden up 4 or 5 thousand feet and didn't notice anything with the bike. Only thing that might have happen is the first guys dealer might have sold him the rejet and now it needs to be put back like it was. 3000 feet is not a rejet job. Sync the carbs, put some Sea Foam in the gas tank, run a few tanks of gas. If it still backfires take the AIS off. Should be fine. Boo- 12 replies

Ahhhh them electric jobs are very easy to crash, I have one in the basement now with a broken wing. Didn't make it over the chain link fence. The day before that I make it over the fence but crashed into the lake. Scared the hell out of the local alligator, he didn't like me wading around out there in my shorts fishing the plane out either. Think chrome is expensive, try crashing hundred bills into the ground, make a grown man cry. Before you guys think I was seeing alligators in northern Illinois let me say it was while I was in Florida last winter. Dang I love not growing up, BOO

Can ya help a brother out? ( with his slippy clutch)
BOO replied to RedRocket's topic in Watering Hole
I did the clutch upgrade a year or so ago. I didn't care for the way the clutch felt so I just put the VMAX spring in but didn't use the steel disc that came with the kit. I would be glad to ship the disc to you if it would help. I have the old spring also but I doubt that would do you any good. Let me know, Jerry -
I have had Geico Insurance on my bikes since probably 1980 or somewhere in that area. Through the years I might get a speeding ticket every 4 or 5 years. Well I got one year ago February for 12 over in 55. I had been paying around $215.00 for two bikes with only liability. And I have the 500,000.00 limits and $100.00 deductible. Got my new policy and now I'm high risk, $540.00 per year. Switched insurance companies and now I pay $225.00 full coverage for both bikes with motel, towing and rental. Also turns out I didn't have any Medical insurance with Geico either. I do have to agree with the person about how good an insurance company is. Seems like a lot of companies are the same, some days you are their best customer and the next time they don't want to talk to you. I have several stories about insurance companies and some are good stories but that's for another time. BOO

It's always sad to see an old friend go away. Times will get better. Good luck my friend, Jerry

I've always had good service with them also. A few years ago I ordered a tire and it showed up in 3 or 4 days BUT it was shipped from "Parts Unlimited". Jerry

Show Chrome "plastic" gas tank cover
BOO replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've seen some of these covers that also are bumped by the handlebars, puts a little spot on them but you can barely see it. For no more than they cost you should just try one. I don't have one but then again I don't like to shine things either. BOO -
When the clutch slips for just about any reason it will be while the bike is in one of the higher gears. I don't use any of the synthetic oils and I'm not so sure that just changing the oil will immediately make the clutch quit slipping. It make take several oil changes or you might even need to take the clutch apart and clean up the fiber plates. Boo

Should be a good experience for you. Just pay attention to the little tips given in the instructions and you should be fine. Good Luck, Jerry

I too have ridden on plugged tires and probably will again. If you worry about it all the time you are riding then I would change it. Jerry

I noticed this feature on another forum I go to that uses vBulletin software. Seems to be pretty handy and may even cut down on the use of the server. Boo

Not enough tongue weight is my guess, happens with all two wheel trailers if not loaded properly, even my skid loader trailer does it if I don't have it loaded right. Jerry

Cheap! Cheap!

I'm not sure but I don't think the E2's have been in production for some time and also some of the guys have been reporting the tires they do receive are several years old sitting on the shelf. Just a little heads up as I have received tires that were a couple years old and had no problems. Jerry

I mostly agree with Squidley. I've had both as well as the 1200, 1300 first gen and the 01 I ride now. I have put several thousand miles on all these bikes and I like both for different reasons. I like the 2nd gen because it is more comfortable for me to ride, my wife liked the seat on the 1st gen bikes. The 1st gens are mostly faster bikes and the sitting position is more like the sport touring bikes. I also like the first gens for running through the corners. The 86 and up to 93 years had better and bigger bags, on board air compressors etc. Dollar for the dollar the 1st gens are the better buy if you like that style of bike. I've never owned a venture I didn't like. 1984, 1986, 1989, 2001. Good luck, Jerry

Yep, a lot of rumors just like in years past but nothing much comes of it. Been going on for some 25 years now. I guess we'll see but I don't think the 2nd gen can handle that kind of HP. Jerry

I'm not picking on the Harley's and the newest one I have owned was a 1978 but the gears in that bike were not synchronized so you would get some grinding from time to time when down shifting. Other than that I agree with everyone else. I'm going to have to look at my manual. What is that down shifting only at 16 mph business? First I ever heard of that. Jerry

Thanks a lot, we appreciate all you do for us. Jerry

Yep, that would make a nice bike to ride. I also had a 1100 a few years back but it didn't get ridden enough so I sold it. I like the design on the 90's virago must better then the first ones like the 920 that skid mentioned, there was something different about the rake angle or something. Nice cornering bike. Jerry
