  1. Little something I've learned through the years about Carbs. They don't usually change much. What I mean is the floats don't change unless something serious has happen like a wreck or something like that, or one has a hole in it. Most of the time the adjustments are fine they just get some dirt in one of the orifices or something. Sometimes Sea Foam will help but most of the time just a good cleaning is all it needs. Adjusting the floats is a real pain and if you don't understand how to do it you will screw them up every time. Sorry you were down for so long, been there done that. Have a good weekend, BOO
  2. Oh yeah this is a common problem. I can't remember the exact steps to fixing it but I'm sure it's in the tech section. It has to do with the switch on the clutch handle. I think mine broke or something and I was able to either swap it with the hand brake side or rework the switch. Been a few years since I did one. BOO
  3. Yep the 3800 is a great engine, my wife has had three Bonneville's with that engine it and they are great, one of them had a little glitch in it but they changed the gear in the tranny and the computer chip and it ran great after that. Highway always in the upper 20's and very often 30 or 31. I know one thing it can go farther on a tank of gas then I can on a cup of coffee. The current car has 120,000 miles on it and she wants a new one but she can't find a car she likes better then the old Bonnie. But she will, she will. BOO

    hoover dam

It's been a few years since we were across the dam and the water was pretty low. Looking at the pictures it won't be long before you won't need a bridge to get across. Well maybe to cross the canyon but Lake Mead is going to be dry in a few years at the rate it's going. Nice pictures, BOO
  5. I don't believe I've ever heard of a fuel pump going bad but I'm sure it has. Anything mechanical is going to have some problems. The coils are very rare also but as you will notice in a thread going on elsewhere it does happen. And of course there are several people that have had problems with ignition switch problems. I don't carry any more junk than I have to on trips and so far "knock on wood". I do carry the information for how the ignition switch can be bypassed just in case that were to happen. Good Luck and Happy riding, BOO
  6. Yeah it seems if you don't keep them really tight then they fall off. I have no nuts on mine, I never put them on, the seat ain't going anywhere with my big butt on there. BOO
  7. Whats the matter with you guys, put them dang cigarettes out NOW and don't let me catch you doing that again. Sorry to hear about your family, hope things get better for you, BOO
  8. I have stayed at the Super 8 in Corydon, In a couple of times. Pretty much your run of the mill Super 8. Nice people and very clean but I haven't been there for a couple of years. My wife is from Corydon, nice little town, Indiana's first Capital etc. You must be traveling I64? If you were traveling the byways I could fix you up for much cheaper. Have fun at Sturgis. BOO
  9. Yeah I heard the big money is in truck enforcement. Most of the small Cities/Villages in my area are sending cops to Truck enforcement school and are buying portable scales to get in on the "big" money. BOO
  10. Yeah, one side wears a lot faster than the other side. If you get to them in time you can swap them and make the pair last longer. Just not a very good design. BOO
  11. I am presuming that collar that you heated up is still connected to the coil? I'm not sure what kind of damage you could have caused but it certainly won't hurt to try and repair it. Do the best you can and see how it works, Good Luck, Boo
  12. Mine measures 17 1/4" but I had the first gen antenna mounted on the second gen bike for a while so I don't know if I ever checked the SWR when it was on the second gen bike or ever checked it as far as that goes. Sorry I probably complicated things, BOO
  13. Any thing will work, the important thing is the length. I lost one once and had a heck of a time finding something with that small of a diameter. If I remember correctly I had to grind it down to make it work. You also want to fix that stripped set screw of course. Good Luck, BOO
  14. I have had an E3 on the rear of my RSV for some time now and I thought I had better be thinking about getting a new one at the beginning of this year. I just took a look at it and I think it has a few more thousand miles in it. I put a E3 on the rear on 5-2-06 with 40773 miles on the odometer. I put a E2 on the front on 7-29-07 with 53414 miles on the odometer. Today the Odometer has 67,045 miles on it. That's 26,272 miles on the E3. and 13,631 on the E2 front. I know I can get 20,000 out of the front tire as I have done this several times in the past. The E3 rear is what impressing me though, I have never got anything close to that kind of mileage out of a rear tire. By the way just in case you are not familiar with these tires they are Dunlops. BOO
  15. Yeah there is a smaller disc in the original clutch, as I recall it goes in first and then the rest. Actually I thought the Barnett clutch had all full disc's but I could be wrong. Why there is an inner and outer disc I don't know either. Sorry I'm not much help but I usually use the clutches from Yamaha, they seem to be about as good as any. I did try the upgrade recently but I can't say that I care much for that either. After I post this reply I will look up a guys name for you to contact for help. BOO
  16. I have one of those also and it does work just fine. BOO
  17. I have two thoughts about this thread, 1. Don't worry about it. 2. That's what the oil level light is for. BOO
  18. I have one but of course I am looking for one also. You can buy them in chrome from your local dealer. Or black rubber. BOO
  19. No! It means the slider is stuck or the diaphragm has a hole in it. Probably some other options too but it's probably one of the above. Usually when the float is stuck gas will be running all over the place, once in a while you will get a floast stuck closed and no gas will get into the Carb. BOO
  20. It seems hard to predict when it's time to change tires, mileage along won't do it. I have run the same brand and model tire's and they will get several thousand miles difference. Just watch the wear, the main thing is your comfort level. I run mine down pretty slick and sometime the slick turns into white cord. I can also run a tire with a plug in it, some can't. So I say whatever your comfort level can handle that would be the time to change tires. BOO
  21. Not a hundred per cent sure but I believe the radials were made for the 1800 GW. Not sure how they would work on other bikes and I don't know anyone that is riding on radials except the wingers. BOO
  22. Nothin like it, I'm not a retiree from the military but I still qualify. I think it's about $11.00 a month for fighting and dying for my country, You're Welcome. But I'll take it, BOO
  23. My son has been trying to fly to Alaska for the last week or so. He lives in the Denver area and it's either been snow storms in Co or the Volcano in Alaska, haven't talked to him for a few days so don't know if he's made or not. Was going for a job interview. BOO
  24. I'd call the insurance company and ask them how THEY are going to flip it back over. Your pretty lucky though, didn't hurt the bike. Jerry
  25. There is a weight limit for the bike, I'm not sure what it is off hand but I have seen couples that weigh way more than that on these bikes. I think the biggest fear might be the tires, they also have weight limits. Buy him his own bike and then you are fine. BOO
