    Federal tire

Yeah I let someone talk me into trying that ONCE on a tractor tire I couldn't get to take air. I'll have to say the guys on You Tube looked like they had just the right about of starting fluid because when I did that the thing blew and my heart stopped for a couple of minutes. It did set the bead though. You'd think by the time I had reached 55 years old I would not have been so stupid.LOL That's almost one of those things "Hold my beer and watch this", BOO
  2. I also run 30 to 35 when alone and slightly more with the wife on the back. I doubt the oil is coming from the shock but maybe, my guess without seeing it would be the crankcase has to much oil in it. Take a look at the sight glass and keep it below the halfway point in the glass. That is a nice looking color combination for a bike, Good Luck, Boo
  3. Jerry, You came right through my town to get to Lake Geneva. The water tower here in town is painted like a basketball, you probably seen it when you came through town. As a matter of fact I was through your area a couple of times over the weekend, was traveling south on I65 Saturday morning and north yesterday afternoon. But I was on the bike. Did a little 750 mile round trip just to check out the new rear tire. Stop some time when you are in the area. BOO
  4. Hey that's great, only took my wife 38 years to get on the back of the bike and now I can't keep her off it. Good or Bad thing? She's good back there if she just didn't snore so much. But at least it keeps me awake. LOL. BOO
  5. You're going to love me. When is the "last dinner"? Is that the Banquet on Wednesday night or a dinner on Thursday night or a night yet to be determined? BOO
  6. Gots to be lots of places down around where Perch lives. Someone pick out a spot and we will show and then Dan can fix Dan's Carbs. BOO
  7. I don't know nothing about the carb tune but I do know about "meet and eat". BOO
  8. Sounds like good information. I do run the pressure at max as stated on the side wall of the tire and I KNOW you don't want to run a tire to low because of heat build up so I just use the sidewall pressure and it seems to be just fine. BOO
  9. Yeah I kind of hated to have it changed with all that rubber left on it. No, not going to be able to make that one. Going to have to get out that way one of these days. I may just show up in Michigan at one of the M/E. The white cord is just the wear indicator isn't it. Ran a few like that. I had heard they quit making the E2 but I see there are still some around. I really like the E3. Still running a E2 on the front and have about 14,000 on that tire. Yeah but I ride like an old man,,, oh wait a minute I am an old man...... I usually get about 12 to 15,000 out of a rear tire (see answer to Dan) One thing I don't do though is use very much back brake and I use the gears to slow the bike down. Whether that helps the mileage or not I don't know but I usually get good mileage out of tires. Now the first Venture I had, an 84, the rear tire didn't make it to 7,000 miles:big-grin-emoticon: I just couldn't keep my hand from twisting that dang throttle. I don't remember what brand of tire that was but it wouldn't have mattered anyway:rotfl: BOO
  10. Oh Yeeeeaaaahhh, I have one and it really helps the back. Had back trouble most of my life and thought I would not be riding at my current age but I think the backrest has helped me continue riding. I modified my a little to support the area of the back I needed supported. Great. Hope it helps you also. BOO
  11. Finally changed the E3 on the rear of my bike. I think I could have went a couple thousand more miles after inspecting it. I will have to say this is the best tire I have ever removed from my bike. Total over 2 1/2 years or so 26,989 Miles. First picture is of a tire I typically take off a bike and the rest are of the new E3 and the old E3. The one I took off had two small nicks/cuts in it. One had been there for at least two years and there was also a piece of glass in another spot about the size of a quarter carrot diamond. BOO

    Gps question

Yep, Yep, nothing better than a baggy and a rubber band. Good Luck, BOO
  13. Good seeing down there Bill. Yeah the wind was a little strong and it was kind of a nasty overcast day. But hey it was a nice ride, not perfect, but nice. You just had to pay attention to where the bike was headed. LOL. Sunday was a beautiful ride home, still had to wear the leathers but it was a nice day. BOO
  14. Bill, You ain't going to believe this one. I told Jane about the dinner being on Thursday Night so gets in a huff and has me cancel the reservations in Branson and make our reservation for one more day in Harrison. So hell, just make it any night you want to cause it's looks like I'm going to be there the whole dang week. By the way you're doing a hell of a job but I wish Cindy would smack you up side the head a time or two.:rotfl: BOO
  15. We'll be there. 5 of us. One other Venture three wings and me. If the wings can keep up we should be there 12/1 PM. We're staying at the Super 8 Sat night and coming home Sunday. See ya, BOO
  16. Some sort of schedule would be nice. I have reservations in Branson for Thursday night. Must of misunderstood when things were happening. BOO
  17. Here is a chart I have kept around for checking charging system when needed. Might give it a try, http://www.gadgetjq.com/fault-finding.htm Boo
  18. Yep, the air horn is one of the best accessories you can put on a bike. Although I should apologize for using the horn a few times, the heck with them I just wish it was louder. Good post, BOO
  19. Sorry to hear you won't be there and Linda knows Jane is ready to go shopping anyplace anytime. We'll see you in Arkansas in August. BOO
  20. I noticed that, is there a tent in the picture? BOO
  21. Hey Bill, You guys going up to Litchfield next weekend for the Appreciation Days? We will be there about noon on Saturday and leave about 9/10 AM on Sunday. BOO
  22. Yeah I like the tall one also. Most of the guys I ride with like the shorter one in the rain but I prefer the tall wide one all the time. I doubt that the windscreen makes much difference to mileage, one way or the other you have to plow through the air. It will be interesting to see the results when you get back from your trip. I try not to ride in the rain. BOO
  23. This may or may not be of interest. I have had three first gen bikes and all three of them started a little different. The 84 needed about 1/3 choke to start, the 86 needed at least half to start and the 89 barely needed any, a 1/4 of the choke at best. I never tried to start one without the choke. And the sweet spot running down the highway was about 65/67 MPH on the 86/89, can't remember about the 84. Never had a Carb issue with any of the bikes and I probably put close to 200,000 miles on the three bikes. I'm thinking you may have an air leak also from the sounds of the engine running rough but just a wild guess without hearing or seeing the bike, (And then it would probably be wilder.) Did you try a compression test? Good Luck, BOO
  24. I definitely agree that they probably are not right a lot of times from the factory, I was assuming the bike to be running okay before the adjustments. I guess what I was really trying to say was most people should keep their fingers out of the carbs. Adjusting the floats are not as easy as it sounds. I can do it but I sure don't touch them if I don't have to. Sort of the same goes for Sync'd carbs, I'm not sure why people have to do that so much, I'm not sure what is changing to cause the balance to change. I can say I don't hate carbs but they can be a pain. Hope everything is going good for you, BOO
