  1. I have used several of the Barnett clutches through the years and they have served me well. They have been around for some time and make a lot of different products. Having said all that I have the PCW clutch spring in my bike and find it works very well. I've probably put 10- 15,000 miles on it with no issues. But I will also have to say I did not use all of the kit. When I first got the kit I put in all in as instructed and I really didn't like the feel of the lever or the release point so I took it back apart and just used the spring and put the original wire and disc's back in. Works great for me and yeah price pushed me to the PCW clutch but the Barnett sure is purtty. BOO
  2. I bet you have a set of pipes with a Catalytic Converter in it and I'm not sure you can use that pipe. There was some talk here on the forum about the pipes have the converter in them but I didn't pay much attention to the post. Maybe you can do a search or someone will jump in that knows what to do with those pipes. Sorry, BOO
  3. Unless you have something different than I have the 1 1/8" hole saw is the ticket. You're going to need a 12" extension to reach the center piece. When you are done you should be able to look right through the muffler. As far as the drilled out pieces, sometimes it will stick in the bit but most of the time the piece will just stay in the muffler. All of mine remained in the muffler. Don't think it is a problem. No one I know had to re-jet the carburetors, seems to work fine. Of course you need a bracket to attach the HD muffler to the RSV. Other than that they slip right on. BOO
  4. Sounds pretty good. I got some good mileage out of the first one I had but I've noticed that the new one seems to have softer rubber in the center. Will be interesting to see how long this tire lasts. BOO

  6. Well it finally happen. I usually get from 39 to 42 MPG. I've been tweaking things for quite some time to try and help my gas mileage mainly because a few people have bragged about 48 to 50 MPG. I recently went on a 954 miles trip over two days. The guy I went with was on a 03 Venture and I had never ridden with him before. I was watching our gas mileage and he consistently took less gas than me, actually on one run I put in 5.2 gals and he put in 4.3 gals for 213.4 miles. Darn near 50 MPG for him and not to shabby for me. Overall I was able to check the first 823 miles because we didn't fill up at the end, besides it was raining. Any way I burnt 19.75 gals or 41.67 MPG and he burnt 17.18 for 47.9 MPG. Probably 90% interstate and at 70MPH indicated. I ask him if I could take his bike apart to check all the adjustments but he declined. LOL If he were to sell the bike I would be the first in line to buy it. That just amazes me that the gas mileage could be so different. BOO
  7. I agree, we get to involved in all the adjustments, noise etc and most of it don't mean much. I've ran 3 Ventures to around 100,000 miles each and never had much happen to them, a couple of stators and some gaskets a long the way and that's about it. My current bike just turned 71,000 and not much has happen to it either. It whines but so does my wife (did I really put that in writing?) but I put up with it because at the end of the day it's the bike I like. I also applaud Kent for what he does with the Venture. He evidently likes things to be near perfect and there's nothing wrong with that either. People like to clean and make there bike look perfect, I don't do that either but it doesn't mean its wrong. BOO
  8. Darn I lived about 50 miles from there for about 20 years, first I've heard of this place. Notice it's also fairly close to "French Lick". BOO
  9. I had to go look at the shirts I have (that are getting very worn) and the logo don't look much like the new one. There was no background color in the first ones. The back ground was just the color of the tee shirt. If you have a tee shirt like some have been made with a big printed logo on the back it sure makes a hot spot when you wear it out in the sun. I have mixed emotions about the world in the logo. It appears the first shirts were very readable and my glasses are several years old. I don't smoke but please, please have the shirts made with pockets. Are we only talking tee shirts? Last time I bought 2 tees, 1 long sleeve tee and a sweat shirts and they are well used at this point. My .02 BOO

  11. Well I usually relate "whump whump" sounds to tires. If you have a low tire sometimes it will make that sound especially if the bike has been sitting for some time. It sounds like maybe your "whump whump" is a faster "whump whump" than the tire type "whump whump" leading you to belive it's motor related. I'm pretty sure this post didn't help but I just hate to see a post go unanswered. BOO

    I emailed Don a few weeks ago about some shirts and he said he was going to look into having some more made. Mine are getting pretty tacky. I like the last ones we had because it had a pocket. I'm not a smoker but I do like the pocket. BOO

    Tornado Footage

    I'm pretty sure that is the tornado that hit my Nieces house a year ago January. Usually that camera is pointed to the front but for some reason it was pointed in the wrong direction and got that footage by accident (no pun intended). If you notice in the film the train turned over right on a bridge. Is not very high but sure made a mess. BOO

  15. Darn, how did I miss such a lively discussion and right up my alley too. I see there were some deleted postings also, damn hate when that happens. Bottom line to all this discussion in my opinion is "if it works use it". I'm kind of a communications freak but I got to tell you I hardly ever turn the CB on on my bike. Nice discussion though, BOO
  16. Interesting article and I must admit I carrying a copy of the diagram to bypass the switch with me at all times. I have not installed a bypass switch as some others have. Since I'm not sure where the monitor connects into the electrical system it's hard to comprehend exacting what was going on with the monitor and your switch. According to the article the amber light comes on at 12.6 volts. Actually that's a petty low voltage for the charging system. Even with a lot of load on the system I haven't seen the voltage that low. I wonder just what the voltage is on your bike say at 2,000 rpm? Just curious, BOO
  17. I have the road kings, I don't know for nothing about stage 3 or 26 or 75. I drilled mine out with a inch and a quarter hole saw. You will need a 12 inch extension to reach the inter most baffle. In my mufflers there were 3 spots to drill out and the muffler is pretty much straight through. Its got enough turbulence to not be to loud but if you really get on the throttle it has a pretty good bite. I don't even notice them going down the road and the guys behind be say they are not annoying to them either. I just used the HD clamp and didn't worrying about it be covered etc that you will see in the tech section. BOO
  18. Yeah Bob there is definitely two different chains of thought when wiring AC or DC. Even though the Black in a house circuit is connected to the ground buss it's considered a Common wire. Anyway are far as splitting the faring, I don't think I've ever done anything in the faring without taking it apart at least twice. If you mounted the running lights as Yamaha has them it's even a bigger pain to split the faring. A lot of people never get enough nerve to split the faring. I guess you putting the running lights on is a typical guy thing, don't read the instructions until after you're finished. (So you think):rotfl: BOO
  19. I have actually done that also but I can't imagine it's good for the engine let alone the exhaust system. Sure gets peoples attention though, BOO
  20. Had the same sort of thing happen to me a few years ago. Was gaining speed to merge into traffic and ran through some coolant I think, at any rate the front end slide out and I almost went down but in the mean time the guy behind me driving a small pickup was watching the traffic so he too could merge into traffic. When he turned and saw me almost stopped on the ramp he swerved and came up sliding in the gravel right next to me. We both changed our underwear and continued on our way. BOO
  21. If your lights are like mine, you can loosen the bolt that holds the lights to the cross bar and the lights will pivot up/down and side to side. Pretty crude way to adjust them but it can be done. BOO

  23. I use credit cards all the time, don't know how to use a debit card, don't want to. I usually use the Discover Card but when the gas was 4 something a gallon it would shut off before being completely full (My Dodge Hemi). Limit on the card for a single purchase at the pump, $75 I believe. Like someone said the Card companies don't like being paid off every month and just every once in a while I run into a place that won't take any kind of credit card. I think that's going to happen more and more so get ready to carry cash guys. Three times in one day would be a bummer on a bike but heck just keep trying cards till you find one that works. BOO

  25. Well, I like to turn mine on and off for different reasons so I like having a switch connected to the circuit but a lot of people just have them connected to the headlight circuit. Do use a relay though, will save the ignition switch in the long run. I use the kill switch to turn the lights on and off with. I also have my lights adjusted a little high so I can see down the road at night but they are so high they blind oncoming traffic so I like to turn them off when meeting traffic. Good Luck, BOO
