I've gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes, I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, Take 40 different medications a day that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation; hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 65 or 82. Have lost all my friends. And my wife ran off with a Harley guy, took my truck (of course) and my 18 year dog. I have so much bad luc I can't even spell the word. Now give me them dang gages!!!! BOO

I know you didn't ask but to bad. Except for the part where you sucked up to Squid you did a find job I'd say. BOO

I agree with most everything you have to say and I have mine on for the same reasons but I don't agree about running them as a sweep. At night if they are a little high as mine are then you blind everyone in front of you through the mirrors. If they are not set high as soon as you are close to the person in front of you you can blind that person in front of you. Had this happen to me several times and a couple times I just pulled out of line and rode alone. I'm talking about riding at night only. BOO

My passing lights are set pretty high, much to high for driving at night but I like the bright lights during the day. I also like the brighter lighting for country driving at night with no traffic and when I put on the high beam with the passing lights.... I light up my driving area big time. I know this is not popular but I have disconnected my kill switch and now use it for an on/off switch for the passing lights, it works really well and is very convenient to use. As a matter of fact someone thought it was funny to turn my kill switch off recently but all it managed to do was turn off the passing lights and I didn't notice it for some time. .02 BOO

TEE Shirts? BOO

Yep Yep I had one of those also, 1978 650 special, not "heritage" just a special and the color was a purple sort of. Nice little bike, put several thousand miles on it, bout like riding a Triumph or BSA but fun. Mine had a chain oiler---actually a seal was leaking on the shaft of the primary sprocket and it would sling oil all over the back of my tee short or whatever I happen to be wearing. Kept the chain oiled though. Also had a 1100 midnight special but that's for another thread. BOO

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are Drag Specialties lights. I replaced some in a rear mud flap I had on a first Gen and they were Dray Specialties lens. BOO

First let me say I am a diehard second gen rider. The First gen bikes are definitely better bikes, they took a lot of good things off the earlier bikes to make the second gen bikes. On board air compressor, linked brakes, better handling and faster. All that being said I love the second gen bike because of the looks and the comfort. Just every once in a while I think about buying another first gen 1300 and I do love those bikes also but I guess I'll just keep the Ole junker because it's like an old pair of shoes-----it just feels good. YES!, I change my own also but 99.9999999-(you get the idea) per cent of the time I take them to someone and have them balanced. I have on occasion balanced them my self using a spare axle and patience. Machine balance is the best I believe. BOO

I'm not a real big dog person. We don't have one and haven't had one for 10 - 15 years but I got to tell you that is a great dog to have around and very well mannered. She looks really great now that she has been cleaned up and brushed. Hope you, Eileen and Annie have many happy years together. BOO

Sorry no experience with the Yamaha battery but the battery was bad or you would not need to charge it up all the time AND that is bull about the bike not being able to increase the charged voltage. If that is the case then the charging system is bad and they need to cover that under warranty. Also you should not charge the battery at the fast rate you did, that is also bad for the battery. Good Luck, BOO

Well I'm going to disagree with some on here butI do speak from experience. First of all 50 is to many people in a group, 25 - 30 is to many but can be done. I always get my slowest riders up front so they can keep up. If the lead rider is running the speed limit then the guys in the rear will be running 10 to 15 MPH over the speed limit to keep up and faster in the curves. I've seen this happen with both motorcycles and snowmobiles. Good Luck and just enjoy the ride. One more thing I always tell people to ride no faster then they feel comfortable and if you have to split the group up again into a smaller group then you should do that. Just be safe and everyone will have a good time, BOO

I don't know when school starts in your area but it's been in session for a week here already so unless it done early in the year then July and August is when it will have to be. It definitely needs to be when school is out I think. I don't have a problem with the heat but have it whenever and if we can make it we will. BOO

I think you are talking about a two lever control and I'm pretty sure you can't even get the lever out of gear let along force it into reverse. I think the way the control is made it won't allow things like that to happen. BOO

venture has no heating option
BOO replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'll guarantee you the Venture is colder than the Wing in cold weather just because of the way the faring is made. The first generation 83-93 Ventures are warmer than the second generation Ventures. You can add some heating accessories to the Venture but I'm not sure just how much, someone that actually rides in cold weather will have to answer that. I do not ride in cold weather and very rarely ride in temps below 50 deg F. Good Luck, BOO -
Now I've got to watch two of you guys around my bike. Actually in Eck's case he wanted to use the 4 inch grinder and a broom stick. Believe it or not he got it open with no damage. It only took me three adult beverages to supervise him through the process. BOO

I think these lock are pressed together??? Seems like I seen post to that effect on the other hand I believe someone on the forum posted about getting the locks re-keyed to match the ignition. Some locks won't come apart unless you have the key to turn it slightly. Good luck trying to get a key from Yamaha for the bags, if the bags were new then I'm surprised they didn't come with keys. At any rate do what Highwayman said so you don't have to carry two keys. BOO

Well it is sort of interesting. They evidently don't tell their people any more that they tell the public. The thing that sort of struck me funny was the length of time it takes to develop a bike. Wonder how bad the whine was in the first prototype??? LOL BOO

Good to see you made it home okay. Always good to see you guys and chat. Was really good meeting the young ones, great kids, very enjoyable to have around. Thank Courtney for helping Haley keep us cool while were BS'ing in the evenings. Great bunch of kids there at the meet in Arkansas. BOO

How come when my bags won't open you get out the grinder and when someone else's don't work you want to get a locksmith? Some buddy you are, BOO

First, the problem was with the 83/84's I think but at least it was not a problem on the 87. Fairly easy fix on the Venture, can be done with directions here on the site in no more than a couple of hours. There is a larger stator available but I won't comment on that but there is one available. I would just stay within the range of the original stator and you should be able to add about anything you like except for maybe heated clothing. They had the kinks pretty well out of the bike by the 87 model as far as known problems are concerned. Hope it works out for you, they are great bikes, BOO
