I'd like to be able to say I've never been down but I'd have to lie. There was a time when I wanted to be the fastest one in the group while trying to drink more than anyone in the group. Good combination for a wreck. Been down about any way you can imagine, high side, low side and sliding. We use to have a saying in our group and I've mentioned it here before, "when you get high sided you have to make a decision, whether to go for distance or height". Neither way works out very well. So now I'm older and haven't been down for a long time, don't drink much anymore and I don't care who is the fastest. Just trying to keep the rubber side down. Talking about accidents you can not avoid. A few years ago a friend of my was broad sided at an intersection where a car was trying to jump out in traffic between cars and did not see my buddy. They dug a lot of headlight glass out of his knee and it had to be worked on a couple of times but he's back riding. The goldwing he was on was only a few months old and every piece of plastic was broke except for one and the wrecker took care of that when he loader it up on the flatbed. Insurance fixed it up and he rode it for years. There is a lot of good information on this thread. Be Safe, BOO

Some don't like the way I switch my running lights but here's what I do. I have rewired my kill switch and use it as the running light switch. I never use the kill switch anyway. Works good for me. There was a post recently with two switches on a mount that was just under the switch you are talking about and it looked great also. BOO

I don't mean to degrade this post but I believe Ed Freeman has been dead for couple of years.. Could be wrong... I know this kind of thing has been passed around a few times about him..... I think what it says he did is true though. I'm to lazy to go look it up...... BOO

I had one stolen 10 or 12 years ago. I was at the time trails in Indianapolis and the bike was in a parking lot across the street and when I came back to the bike the helmet was gone. Still had the rings where it was locked to the bike but the helmet was gone gone. If there is a good side to this story the helmet was old and needed to be replaced anyway but damn I hate to ride in the rain with no helmet. Yep, it was raining. BOO

Glad someone cleared that up. As for the antenna, there ain't no reason that won't work. One of the boats I had came from the factory with the antenna lead connected to the windshield frame and it worked okay, not great but okay. BOO

Oldest & YOungest: WHO WAS 77 YR OLD RIDER? Lost record. Help!
BOO replied to Zfrebird4's topic in Watering Hole
Jack, I was going to do this last night but I kept falling asleep and I would end up with a page full of "l's" or "o's" so I went to bed. I'm 64 be 65 in Sept of 2010 and the good looking gal that rides behind me will be 63 the 24th of Dec. Almost a Christmas baby.... I was serious about coming out west this summer, we have definitely been talking about it. I would love to do the Mexico thing that they been talking about also but we'll have to see when that is. I really like that area but it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to far from fall to think about that for a ride but I will keep it in mind. BOO

speedometer question
BOO replied to mother's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Can't say I've seen just a Kilo type speedometer. The ones here in the states have both on one speedometer. The kilos are sort of in the background but there. BOO -
Engine Guard flexing w/Kuryakyn Longhorn footpegs
BOO replied to bamico's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yeah mine flex also but I don't pay much attention to them and I have them adjusted so I can lock my knees and raise my rear off the seat for a little relief. AND I ride like that for several miles sometimes, kind of hard on the knees though. The point is though the guards seem to be holding up find even though they flex a lot. I suppose one of these days one of them will break while I am about half asleep and I will fall of the bike. BOO -
Several years ago there was one of those things in a nearby town (Woodstock) and the guy drove it quite a bit and even drove it to work. I've forgot how long ago but it was for sale and it seems like the guy wanted 3 or 4 grand for it. It was one of the front opening ones. I also got the impression that it would only do maybe 40 or 45 miles an hour. Cute but not something I would want. But at least you would be dry I guess. BOO

Skid's bike is one of the nicest first gens you will ever find. Someone going to get one great bike. BOO

I'm a little rusty on this subject but I think I'm right for what I'm saying. First of all if you are talking about the CB radio, to be quarter wave you need to be 11 meters divided by 4 equals about 3 meters or 9 feet. The old antennas we use to have for cb's were resonant at about 102 inches because of the spring etc. As far as the public radio you want to be resonant at a frequency on the AM band for max reception, the FM side just has to deal with it. Most people don't listen to AM much so we want an antenna that works best on the FM side. Most anything works and the larger the better, more skin effect (wire surface) the better. Is the FM public broadcast really quarter wave at 20 inches? Sounds kind of short but I'm just winging it here. Of course there's always a chance of me being full of crap..... BOO

We had about an inch and a half of snow on Thanksgiving morning. It had rained about an inch during the night, I'm glad that wasn't of the white variety........ Suppose to be in the 50's tomorrow, go figure. BOO

Well I don't know what you can do to stay out of danger. Even riding in your car you have the same problems with other drivers you do on the bike. The problem is, on the bike you are in more danger than the cage. I have been riding a lot of years, LOT. I'm almost afraid to say I've never been hit by a cage for fear it might jinx me. What I have done is stored all the scenarios in my mind that might happen on the bike so I know what to do automatically when a situation comes up. I'll guarantee you especially when I am on a trip someone will do something that I had not thought of or I will get into a situation I didn't want to be in. What really gets me is I can see these situations evolving but can't do anything about it. I am more concerned about getting hit from behind then from the front. I can see things happening in front of me and can control that more. Just me I guess. Ride safe, BOO

Hope you didn't pay much for that antenna. Man if he had just left a couple of inches of cable you could get something on it. I guess if it's the antenna for the am/fm you might hob nob something onto it and maybe not get to much interference. If you have a friend that's into ham radio or like someone said a cb shop maybe something could be adapted to the antenna but it sure looks like it was molded that way. I don't think I would start cutting on the fitting because there may be a fitting that could be crimped onto what you have. I wish I had a good answer for you but I don't. Good Luck, BOO
