  1. Amazes me also. I have a friend who swears by the Bridgestones (not at them). He has 80 some thousand miles on his bike and has never been on any other tire. I rag on him all the time about them but he thinks they are the greatest tires on the market. I've even offered him my bike to try but he will have none of it. You just can't educate some people. BOO
  2. Interesting that this came to the top again. I noticed the local dealer has one also and it's in the color I had. It is for sale, $3,500.00. Think I paid around $500 for mine with some 6,000 miles of course it was a few years ago. BOO
  3. Being broke down on the road is a real bummer. As they say "been there done that." Had to buy tires for the car on the road as well as motorcycle tires. Had to buy other things on the road besides tires, had to have cars worked on for one reason or the other. And just about every time I've had to pay more for something then I would have if I had been at home. It is what it is. Kind of one of those ""Supply and Demand things" I will say this though I would pay about whatever to get something fixed when I am away from home. Little side note, I bought a tire for a car one time and paid premium for it, a few months later the tire had a big lump on the side and when we took it off it had "second" burnt on the inside sidewall. BOO
  4. There was another thread but not sure where it is about the clutch upgrade. The one where you add the full disc and remove some other parts. I actually done that a couple of years ago and was never really happy with it. I didn't like the clutch engagement point or even the way it acted. A month or so the thing started slipping again. 75K miles on the bike. I was checking all my options, barrnet spring etc. What I ended up doing was ordering all new parts from Yamaha. Clutch is real solid, engagement point is where it should be and I'm happy again. Kind of reinforces what I have thought all along, original parts and sizing always seem to work best. BOO
  5. I was a member of VTS for several years back in the 80's. I went to some of their yearly meets and they always had a large gathering, if I remember correctly I think the attendance was something like 1,000 bikes. At one time is was set up similar to the way the Goldwing group is now and of course the the Star group. I still have the patches and pins somewhere. Think I even have a had somewhere. BOO
  6. I don't if you noticed but I changed from a "maybe" to "I'm gonna be there" I really enjoy that part of the country and I really like the "laid back" atmosphere at this rally. I'm staying at the Super 8 in Black Mountain. See you in August, BOO
  7. Cabelas has a 255W for 120 bucks this weekend. It's not the T model with the live traffic but I had one of those for a while and it's a pretty nice unit for the price. I really don't care for the ones with 3 or 4 different things going one, like MP3, Pictures etc. You really need to do some big time research, there are a lot of different ways to do things. BOO
  8. I'm not a tall guy, maybe 70 inches. But I played with my backrest for probably two years. I did a lot of adjusting when I first got it because it didn't seem to be low enough. I have back problems in the L1 L2 area so that's where I like the support. I shimmed the mounting points with washers to try and get the angle different and/or farther back. I actually went down to a friends shop and made a new bracket and I did use that for one summer but it still wasn't quite right. I would have to go look at it but what I finally did was turn the bracket that attaches to the backrest upside down so I could move it farther down. Took some new bolts and shimming again but I like it now. Been riding it for a couple of summers and I now like the way it feels. The bottom line is I'm using all the original parts but I am not using them in the configuration they were designed to be used. I could try and take some pictures if you like. BOO
  9. Interesting survey I guess. I now wear an Arai and have for several years, had two in the last 10 years. They are a little hard to get use to but I like them a lot. Shoei before the Arai's and I wore that thing way past it's usefulness. And a full face Bell Wedge before that. BOO

    RSV choke

Lean? I have always been to the belief that they run a little rich? The exhaust seems pretty black for a lean machine....... I do agree though, I don't see any point in messing with the carbs because you use the choke a little bit. Actually I think my bike would start without the choke most of the time but it just starts easier with it. BOO
  11. I read most of the posts on this forum and that's the first time I have seen anything mentioned about the tool kit snap. I went out and turned my kit over just in case. Does it also have to be snapped as well as having the snap side down. Thanks in advance, BOO

    RSV choke

Mine does the same. After it sits for about half an hour I have to give it a little choke. BOO
  13. I am not saying anything bad about any of the so called upgrades to the clutches but I can tell you what mine has done. I did buy the PWC clutch kit and after installing it I didn't like the way it felt so I put the half disc back in but used the stronger spring. This was probably at about 60 thousand miles. Now at about 75 thousand the clutch is slipping again so again I put all the parts of the PWC kit back in and the friction point is at almost the full release point of the clutch lever. Same as the first time. I have since repaired the slave cylinder but that seems to have no effect on the clutch. I'm not a 100 percent sure but at this point I'm about ready to order all new clutch parts from Yamaha and replace all the discs and spring. Like I said I'm not saying anything bad about any of the kits but it just has not worked out for me as it has some on this forum. BOO
  14. My nephew lived with me until he got married and one of the days just before the wedding he told my wife he couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to buy a motorcycle or get married. He should have bought the bike, he's married to his fourth wife now and only 52...... BOO
  15. I have seen the glow around the edge on several windshields, not sure if they have them on while driving down the road. Also there have been people around etching windshields for years with color actually in the etching. My friend has a wing that has a red rose and green leaves on the edge of his windshield. Of course it is not lit. BOO

    Wall of Death

I have seen one of those things a couple of times. Once at the Indiana State fair in Indianapolis in about 1960. Boy was that wild. Looks pretty scary but the more you watch the guys it looks pretty simple also. I have never seen the cars in one but I did see a bear ride a motorcycle around there for a few laps. Might have tried it back a time ago but I think the old bones are a little brittle today. Great show for 50 cents though, BOO
  17. Heck when I want to talk about Freebird or any of the moderators behind their backs or call them names I just simply send a regular email to the person I want to gossip with. BOO
  18. Bubber, Received the new light ring today in the mail. Looks to be brand new. I owe you bud. Thanks for the part. Ain't this here place wonderful..... BOO
  19. Nice, very nice, looks great on your bike. BOO
  20. Once I saw what the slave looked like I also got impatient and ordered one on line. The other point was I didn't want to have to do the job twice as it was a pain in the you know what. BOO
  21. Thanks Don but I will go with the first offer, I don't usually ask people to pay it forward but they seem to do it anyway once someone had done them a favor. I also tend to collect parts for whatever bike I am riding at the time for just is case. I still have some parts for the first gen bikes which have no use for, should get rid of them I guess. I would have ordered one on line but the sites I went to did not display the shipping and I don't like to order things without knowing the shipping charges, been stung before. Thanks a lot guys, BOO
  22. Should have waited, I have a used one that could probably be honed out and used, even have the repair kit. Oh well, BOO
  23. Looking for a part for the rear turn signal light. It is number 11 in the picture below. It is a chrome piece and is needed to hold the eye brow on. Got one laying around? BOO
  24. This is very sad for every one concerned. BOO
  25. Actually the "F" ends with an "ed" BOO
