New choke knob from Starparts
BOO replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yep Yep Very rarely take the key out of the ignition. Usually just take it out when I am at a motel or in a neighborhood that don't look so good. Sort of funny when I take the bike for service at the Yamaha dealer the guys can't find the switch. Kinda gives you a lot of confidence don't it. Good looking choke cover. BOO -
Dang Jeff U sur R a mart dude. Great Idea... BOO

I would not use a separate switch to turn the lights off before starting the engine. To much of a chance to forget to turn the headlights on when riding during the day. It is a ticket to ride without headlight--don't ask me how I know-- It was several years ago when I was riding an old HD and we started those with no lights then turned the switch ahead another click so the lights would come on. Would forget every once in a while and a cop caught me with the lights off. As far as the on/off switch is concerned, I think it is a good idea to have in case you loose your charging system. If you turn off the headlight and tail lights you might just make it home on the battery.... Just can't do it at night time.... Just my opinion though, BOO

Rooster you are one strange dude dude. 18 degrees here today. I may be a woos but I ain't riding until the temps are at least 50 and preferably sunny. Have fun and I'll see you when the temps are more like 90 later this summer. BOO

These pictures are a few years old but the first one is of one of our favorite Venture Riders..... I'm sure some of you can recognize this dude. The second one is from 2004 Christmas time when I brought the Venture home. Enjoy, BOO

Fluctuating Vacuum Reading 99RSV
BOO replied to trandeod's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It has been some years ago but we use to race snowmobiles. Keep in mind I'm talking about 2 cycle engines. Seems to me thought that we would blow a hole in the piston at around 700 degs F. If in fact your motorcycle is running 600 deg that would be very hot and like Goose I would tend to believe that is not an accurate reading. Usually when you have a carburetor plugged or somewhat plugged the cylinder runs cooler than the others. I'm talking about our 4 cycle bikes now. I think you doing the right thing though and not riding the bike until you can clean the Carbs. The bike I now have had sit for about 9 months when I bought it. I drained the whole fuel system before riding it but there wasn't much in it that I could see. Couple of years later I had a float stick and had to take them apart again and again I didn't find anything in the system but it was fine when I started it again. It's not a real big deal to take them apart and there are some real good instructions on this site. Note: That 700 deg reading is a little relative, it depends a lot on where the probe is inserted in the exhaust system but as I recall the probes where only 2 or 3 inches from the cylinder. Good Luck, BOO- 11 replies

I'm actually surprised the Wing didn't beat the Venture worse than that. Seemed like the Wing was pretty slow. Although the Wing was some 5 MPH faster it only beat the Venture by .2 on time. The first gen Ventures are faster than the 1500 Wings but I don't think they can beat that big Wing but stranger things have happen. Interesting, BOO

Me too!!!! Love the 2001 RSV I'm currently riding. Have put many miles on 84, 86 and 89 Ventures and they are great bikes but I'm in love with the 01 and always pat her on the seat when I walk past. Oh sorry forgot this is a G site. Sorry Don. BOO -

I have had my card used a few times over the last 15 years and so far the card company has been very good about it. Several years ago I was checking into a Hotel in Miami, Fl and about 10 minutes earlier I had checked into a Hotel in New York City. Told you them 2nd gens were fast. Also two years ago the card company called and wanted to know if I was going to Tahiti. Seems that I had booked a Resort there and had also bought airline tickets to get there. I've also had the company call when I made some rather large charges and they wanted to verify the charge. I never know if these people get caught or not but I hope so. Just another little sign of the times we have to deal with in this modern tech world. BOO

I am currently riding a RSV but I have owned 3 first Gens. I have pretty much ran 40 lbs front and back in all my Ventures. I also run my steering head looser than most people but it's the way I like it. The first gens are great bikes and usually track very well except when the swing arm bushings are wore and then it's like a snake going down the road and very interesting. Enjoy, BOO

NOPE! Actually the Goldwing is probably third or fourth on my like/buy list. BOO

I have mine set fairly high so I only run them during the daytime. If I have them on at night it blinds the cages. I switch them on and off with the kill switch. BOO
