  1. Even though Vietnam was the main attraction there was a lot of other things going on in the world besides Vietnam. I'm not trying to belittle the Vietnam guys or down play any thing they done over there but we been policing or whatever you want to call it all over the world forever. I actually joined the Navy to avoid the draft so I wouldn't have to go over there only to find out there was a lot of Navy guys serving on the ground there. Nobody ever said I was real smart. I avoided the 2 year draft only to spend 5 years in the Navy.... That ought to teach em. Good site Rus. BOO
  2. Been out there for a M&E so might have to run out there for a little maintenance. Almost exactly 500 miles from me. If you have it over the June 5th weekend maybe I could get a cup race in the same weekend. BOO
  3. Probably but tires got to be right up there also. BOO
  4. Ah yes, you definately need to talk to these things. The tougher it is the more talk that is needed AND a little name calling is usually called for. A few curse words never hurt either. Congrats on being able to overcome that hunk of metal.:clap2: BOO
  5. I presume you are talking about doing something "different" than the way you did it the first time........ NO! BOO
  6. First big bike I owned was a HD so that's what I really learned on so it just comes pretty natural to use the heel. I've had several toe only shifters and that works fine also and like Goose said it just comes kind of natural on pegs. Now my BSA is another animal. Right foot shift, left foot brake. When I first get on the bike I tend to try and shift the brake and in a panic situation I just jam them both. A guy I ride with occasionally went from a Wing to a TD, first thing he had the dealer do was cut the heel part of the shifter off. Bottom line is I really like the Venture with the heel toe shift. BOO
  7. I put those pads on the last time but I don't know how miles I have on them right now but it seems they have been on there a long time. I do use the front brakes quite a bit along with the rear and I try to make the fronts do most of the braking. I do need to check them before the riding season. BOO
  8. You certainly seem to have a long enough "cheater" bar on that wrench. I can think of all kinds of smart-aleck things to say but I won't. Good Luck, BOO
  9. Very impressive call sign list, I lived in CN7 for a couple of years but was not able to get permission to get on the air. BOO
  10. Still not sure what you are talking about for parts but there is no 24 threads on that antenna I don't think. I had a 1st gen antenna on my 2nd for a while before buying one and I remember having my machinist son make me a stud for the base of the antenna that was metric one end and 24 on the other, if that is what you are looking for I will see if I see have it. BOO
  11. If I understand what broke on your antennas then all you have to do is find another piece of stainless steel antenna that fits inside the load coil. Radio Shack use to have a piece you could buy. My memory is not so good but I believe the length of the original to be about 18 and a half inches or so. Easy fix though, BOO
  12. Ha. Shows how long it's been since I was looking at new radios. Sounds like a real nice radio and it didn't dawn on me that it might have a remote head. Looking forward to seeing the finish product, BOO
  13. Where and how are you planning to mount the 2M/70CM radio? I had not seen that model of radio before, almost looks like it might fit in the space where the cassette player is ? BOO
  14. Not sure about the Radials for the first gens. Don't think they come in the right size. As far as the 404's, I have ran them at different times and I believe they are a softer compound tire that also come with less tread depth then others. In my mind (which is a strange place) I believe they have better grip in the rain then most tires. I have ran a lot of E II through the years and have never had any problem with them. They seem to give good mileage and good grip. I have never had an issue with the Dunlops. I am currently running E3s and really like them. Excellent mileage and good grip. I have not ran a lot of the other brands because the dunlop's have given me no reason to. When I was a kid, some of the brands that are being bragged on today were considered junk. They evidently made their tires a lot better or they are advertising better. BOO
  15. That's OK, two way radio communications is one of my strong suits and I've been keeping an eye on these guys to make sure there is no bad information given out. Of course as I get older my stronger suits keep getting weaker and weaker. I learned about these things when we were still using tubes but all the basic information remains the same. BUT this project is very interesting, probably not one I would do myself but I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I had a two meter radio on my bike for years, another Ham I knew also had two meters so we talked to each other and the range is much farther than 11 meters on the bikes. I met a guy in Rhode Island that was running an Hf Radio with a 500 watt amplifier and a 1200 watt generator in the trailer he was pulling. Sort of interesting. Goldwing of course. Now if he just had a morse code key mounted somewhere on the bike====would that be texting while riding? hummmm. Anyway great project. BOO W9FE dit dah, dit dad dit
  16. Ah to be young again. I've had bikes that looked a lot like that and didn't care if I dinged the paint. Should do that again but would probably kill myself. Great music. BOO
  17. Good point, I had almost forgot about getting out to Pearl Harbor early. If you don't get there early then you will have quite a wait to catch a boat out to the Arizona. As I recall we were there 30 to 45 minutes before they opened to get a ticket. Have Fun, BOO
  18. Been a while since we were there but I would think Pearl Harbor and the Cemetery. We found more to do on the other islands and Honolulu is pretty much a commercial city but hey its it Hawaii. Have fun, BOO
  19. Just proves you need to carry all the necessaries when on the bike. BOO
  20. Yeah about -12 here this AM and I just passed the bank a few minutes a go and it was -9 there. Up to about 8 degrees for a high today. Heading for Florida next week. BOO
  21. I'm no expert either but the engine sounds pretty good to me. Sounds like something going on in one of the cylinders but I don't think it's mechanical. Sounds more like firing or fuel issue. I do hear the sound but it don't sound serious. BOO
  22. I think the guy's response is pretty darn funny......... BOO
  23. I agree almost a 100% with these posts. I'm probably riding my last bike, it has taken me about 5 years to put 65,000 miles on this bike so the chances of me putting 200,000 on this bike are slim to none. If I do happen to wear this bike out there are always bikes sitting around with low miles on them. BOO
  24. 70 That last hole was a real bummer, was beginning to think it was a joke and I had gotten sucked in. BOO
  25. It is for us and you Cheese Heads ! BOO
