1st Start in 2011 - Won't Start
BOO replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If I'm reading your post right it sounds like you are not getting fuel to the other three carbs rather than getting to much to just one carb. If you are taking the screw out at the bottom of the carb bowl, you should be getting fuel from all four carbs. The bowls are suppose to hold fuel. Another thing that is a little suspect is these bikes will start and run on three cylinders. You can actually ride them with only three cylinders and they don't run to bad so I am suspecting you have something else going on there. I don't know what would cause you to be getting fuel to only one cylinder though. Good Luck, BOO -
Hell he can't even get the RSV out of the garage without it crawling all over him..... Good to see the stuff from the VTS group, when I was looking for some pictures the other day I found some pictures of one of the meets I attended in Springfield, Mo. When I get them scanned I'll post them on this site. BOO

Ok or not to take out thermostat?
BOO replied to beachbumtroy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I too would keep the right thermostat in the engine. Sounds like the problem in the first post was the wiring was reversed and causeing the fan to run backward. It would be trying to blow air toward the incoming air during travel. I'm not a real big fan of bypassing the switch on the fan. It would probably be okay to hook up the switch so you could over ride the automatic switch if the engine was running hot, then if you forgot to turn it on or off there would be no danger of overheating. Help deciding between a GL1200 or a Venture
BOO replied to EddyG's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I too have had several bikes. 1981 1100 wing, 1984 Venture, 1986 Venture, 1984 1200 wing, 1989 Venture. I've actually had several more bikes but you were asking about the wing and the venture. My all time favorite of the above group was the 1984 Venture. Fastest of all the listed bikes and a pleasure to ride. 1st Gen Venture VS Wings--------- Venture every time. The Kaw is a nice ride also. Dealer for parts/service would also make a difference. Still confused? Me too. I just love all bikes. Good Luck in your decision, BOO -
I'm ready. Couple of things need to be done to the bike but I would leave anyway. There was a time I would carry around the title with me for just in case but none of my bikes ever failed me on the road. BUT I would not buy a new one and take off on a trip..... Wouldn't trust it until I owned for a while. BOO

Resonable miles per hour on trip
BOO replied to Sylvester's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think it's pretty easy to average 55 on the interstate system. A lot of people calculate their average in different ways. My brother for example doesn't count his stop times for fuel and food therefore he gets a pretty high average. I average my time when I am traveling from point to point and I run about 75 on the interstate if the posted speed limit is 70 and I can easily average in the 60's and I do count my gas and food stops. I usually don't sit down to eat and mostly will just eat junk until I get where I'm going. It's a little harder getting a higher average with 2 people but if your riding styles are similar and your companion doesn't need to stop for long meals you'll be fine. I understand some people have to eat regularly so you would have to factor that in. 3 or 4 years ago I put close to 5000 miles on in less than two weeks and it was a very leisure ride. I stopped at a lot of places and rode with several different members along the way. Have fun and enjoy your trip, BOO -
EDIT: OK, I'm seeing things ... I just went back and looked and I'll SWEAR that they edited it AFTER I took the quiz because A & B are switched. When I did it, A was Northbound and B was Westbound. That's what I thought too but I'm wrong so much (just ask my wife) I just gave up. BOO
-
Humm, like I said I might have miss read the question and in this case I must have done it twice and I agree it is the westbound car first........... BOO

Mine either was a Briggs and stratton or a Tecumseh 5 hp but it was black and it did have a brake sometimes. It was a scrub brake on the rear tire. BOO
-
I got 2 wrong and of course I disagree with the right answers. #5 Here in the US I believe the person to the right goes first unless I read the question wrong. #17 I choose B, I don't care if I ever see the trailer, the cab is all I care about.... Unless of course the tractor is pushing the trailer down the road. I passed at any rate. BOO

I've found through the years that most of the radio/intercom problems with the first gens are do to connector problems. Clean up all the connectors and see where that gets you. Many places to buy speakers. I have a set of Kenwoods on the bike that are not waterproof and they seem to work fine. I have been caught in the rain several times. Good luck, BOO

I went to the web site for the bike I posted earlier. Looks like it will cost about $35,000 for one the way this one was equipped. Yes I would have thought he would have had something to cover the bike with but he had been on the road for 6 weeks with his wife so there was probably no room. Here's the link if anyone is interested: http://www.thoroughbred-motorsports.com/ BOO

A few days ago while on our way back from Florida this was parked next to our car at the motel. I guess they have been around for a while but I had never seen one. My neighbor says they are made by Motor Trike in Texas. The guy was from Colorado Springs CO and also stated it had heat and air conditioning. Did not see a cassette player. Four cylinder ford engine with an automatic trans. BOO

Saturday was about the day I started feeling lousy. Don't feel to bad but need a bucket under my nose. Yeah I had a flu shot in the fall. BOO

I've kind of been watching the threads about the speed of the site. Can't say that it appears to be any slower or faster one way or the other. Every once in a while when I am downloading a thread it seems to hang a little but that's been going on forever. There are a lot of forums that have a way lot more going on then this site and they seem to be fine. It will be riding weather soon fellas and everything will be fine. BOO

I want to flip this a little more. I spent my time in the Navy in Communications. We used Greenwich Mean Time so that every one in Navy Communications would be on the same time, no trying to figure out what time zone each ship was in. Still Military time but everyone was in the same time zone. BOO PS: Do we want to get into the "Bell" system for telling time used on US Navy ships?

Yes 5 am is 5:00, it's actually called oh five hundred thus 21:00 is in fact twenty one hundred. Winter is getting long here also, BOO

Don't mean to hi jack the thread but what launch are you going to see. I believe the Shuttle is to be launched in February? BOO
-
Can't say that I have really kept up with the threads on the car tires as it is not something I would do. One thing that struck me so of odd that the new tire blew with 80-100 lbs of air. I worked in a gas station when I was young and we regularly run the air up to probably that much when seating the tire to the rim. Never had one blow. Of course tires are made different today but just seemed strange to me. Also wonder where the liability might have been assessed if someone had got hurt? BOO

Nasty here are the Illinois/Wisconsin border but the sun is shining now and 16 deg F. Couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure. 1. Gracie gots to go pee. Garage door open. 2. Front of our house. 3. I think I could get the Bike out of the garage! 4. Nice drift in the back yard. BOO

Is the snow all melted off the streets in Milwaukee in March? I may have to put the snow tires on to come to this one. BOO

Even though Vietnam was the main attraction there was a lot of other things going on in the world besides Vietnam. I'm not trying to belittle the Vietnam guys or down play any thing they done over there but we been policing or whatever you want to call it all over the world forever. I actually joined the Navy to avoid the draft so I wouldn't have to go over there only to find out there was a lot of Navy guys serving on the ground there. Nobody ever said I was real smart. I avoided the 2 year draft only to spend 5 years in the Navy.... That ought to teach em. Good site Rus. BOO
