Yeah that was the 1st Vogel and his problem started on the way down there so he ended up riding every day while there and still making it home. Two batteries will make it through the day with out any lighting. BUT he sure you have a BRAKE light and you may get some grief from a LEO for not having a headlight but I think you can make it home. Which vendor for a stator??
BOO replied to reddevilmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm pretty sure I still have the one I took out of the 89 I had 5 or 6 years ago. If I do I'll let you know and we can get together sometime and I'll give it to you. I think it was an original equipment stator from Yamaha. Anyway I know it's burnt on one leg. BOO -
I use to operate with K9RN's club and they are usually in the top 5 in the country with 3 transmitters. I help with the local Emergency Management here in the county and we operate under K9ESV and they are going to try 3 transmitters this year. Always great fun. BOO

I don't believe anyone rejets these bikes, they seem to run fine with the original jets. Do a search on this forum and I think you will find all kinds of info about jetting. Sounds like the guy put bigger jets in and causing your bike to run rich AND causing your gas mileage to take a dump. BOO

How Many Miles Before Your RSV Clutch Slipped?
BOO replied to OB-1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Did mine at about 55 or 60,000. Did it a couple of times before I got it the way I like it. Ended up putting in the heaver spring and new fiber disc's. Did not put in the full fiber disc in the back, just bought a new half one and replaced it. 79,000 now and it works fine. Was just slipping when I got on it hard in 4 or 5 gear. Rode it like that for a couple of trips, it won't just go bad real quick unless you are slipping the heck out it for some reason. Even if you would have to do it on the road it wouldn't be to hard a job. Good Luck, BOO- 12 replies

When leaving the first Vogel I went straight home (except for getting lost going through Knoxville, TN) 846 miles in something under 14 hours and the temps were around 95-100 deg. Drank 4 or 5 bottles of the Gatorade and never went to the bathroom once. Not good. Couple of years later I went to New Hampshire for a meet with Pyro then rode to Vogel down the Blue Ridge Mountains, rode around there for a week or so and came home. Gone two weeks rode about 4,980 miles. Someone said I should have rode in circles to get an even 5,000, no no, time to get off that thing. Rode out to Cinderella's in Kansas City for breakfast one time also. 500 miles each way and we probably put on another 3 or 400 miles out there. I've done several 800 mile days in my life but I'm getting to old for that crap. BOO

All the time. Use to wear a full face but have wore a 3/4 for probably 20 years. And I don't wear the $50 ones either. As a matter of fact my current helmet is about 7 years old so I have a new Arai this year. Be safe, BOO

It's amazing I too have been riding some 50 years. I have had several things happen to me like that have been mentioned here. I keep thinking I have all the things figured out that might go wrong in about every situation. BUT you know what? Something else happens that I don't see coming. Like you I have came out of all the situations without a scratch but sometimes I don't know how. I don't go chasing anyone down, I'm not looking to get shot. Experience and instinct play a big role in survival. Glad you are fine, BOO

I would not advise you to use the tire. BUT depending on the damage I would make a judgment on whether to use it or not. Once I did I would probably never give it another thought. Just check it every once in a while to see how it is doing. BUT that's me. If you are going to constantly worry about the tire, replace it, it ain't worth it. BOO

I'd move out of the neighborhood..... Nice looking bikes.... We have about 30 lots in our neighborhood and about 10 people with bikes and 1 trike. BOO

2002 venture, dry rub sound in back suspension?
BOO replied to revinger's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sounds like the rear shock to me. I don't think there is probably anything wrong with it and my 01 does that every once in a while for some reason. BOO -
Rear Tire Cuping
BOO replied to showmebob's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm pretty bad also about air pressure but I don't think I have ever had one that low. You must have run that tire low quite a while if it was cupping. I bet you it's going to be a lot quieter running down the road now. Some of the guys check the tires before every ride, I usually check mine a couple of times a summer or if it sounds noisy. Semi-emergency: clutch springs needed for 2001 venture near Milwaukee
BOO replied to GG54172's topic in Watering Hole
Glad you made it home and the clutch is working okay. The clutch I had was slipping when I took it out so you would have had to do the job again. I have never seen a clutch burnt like that in a RSV or a Gold Wing and I understand what you were doing at the time and that is sure hard on a clutch. This is a great site and a lot of good information here so hang around! BOO -
Semi-emergency: clutch springs needed for 2001 venture near Milwaukee
BOO replied to GG54172's topic in Watering Hole
I was on my way up there but Greg called long before I got there and said someone else had a set up and was closer than me so I came back home. I have a complete clutch set but it was slipping a little in 4th and 5th on hard acceleration but probably would have got him home. I agree he should change the oil. I don't know if he tore the face off the disc or burnt it off but in any case the oil needs to be changed. BOO -
Semi-emergency: clutch springs needed for 2001 venture near Milwaukee
BOO replied to GG54172's topic in Watering Hole
I just tried to call but got his voice mail. I am about 50 miles from Waukesha County Tech and I could probably run if there if necessary. I have a complete clutch I took out of my 01 a year or so ago but it was slipping in 4th and 5th when you got on the throttle hard. I have the stock spring as well as the steel and fiber disc. I don't think I have ever seen a clutch not move the bike unless it was completely burnt up. Maybe the spring failed/broke/collapsed? BOO -
Electrical issues are my biggest fear!
BOO replied to VentureBob's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Although I'm glad Dan was able to clean up the connector and it's working fine I would cut the thing out and solder the leads and be done with it. If the connector has burnt I don't think you can clean it up good enough to reuse. You could install a new connector but I would just solder it. BOO- 7 replies

I agree with both your posts. I never seem to know what gear I'm in and sometimes I get a surprise when I let the clutch out. The other thing that happens maybe a couple of times a summer, I'm running up through the gears and then forget if I need to push down with the heel or with the toe, hummmm now that gets the revs up pretty good. Seems to happen when I think about what I'm doing vs just doing it. BOO

I also have never thought the front brakes to be weak but I know there are some threads about swapping them out. I have slid my front brake a couple of times so there are definitely enough brakes to do that. The rear brake is very touchy but with a little practice using the front and rear brakes together the RSV will stop just fine and give you a little change. BOO

I have always run 89 and will run the 87 if I am down south were they have it. Runs fine and gas mileage does not suffer. BOO

I have to admit I was quite surprised that no one had responded to this post myself. If I had been closer to where the event was going on I certainly who have attended. I don't usually respond to these sort of posts, just my nature but I did think when I read your post that now the soldier could rest in Peace and I was glad he had returned. Good on you and everyone that attended. BOO USN 1965-1970

Good post. I bet about a third of the motorcycle headlights I see at night are too high. Even if you are riding with one of your buddies and riding behind him you are blinding him at some point, at the very least when you slow down and at stop signs/lights. I've had guys ride behind me and I've had to turn my mirrors because of headlights/running lights. I know everyone wants to be seen but there is such a thing as too bright/high. Also if you have your suspension set pretty soft it doesn't take to much more weight on the rear seat to cause your lights to be too high. BOO

Trunk Light Bar Question...

Sorry I must have already given it to someone. It was not where I thought it was. I hardly ever throw anything away that is related to motorcycles. BOO -
Trunk Light Bar Question...
BOO replied to OldGazer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I may just have one of those reflectors around here somewhere. I did swap one out several years ago and I'm thinking maybe the original reflector is still here. As for the lights, I'm not sure who made them but I bought mine from JC Whitney but they are no longer available. By the way they are sealed units from the factory. BOO
