  8. Finally took the trailer out for the first time..I notice there is more noise from the exhaust bouncing back off of the trailer. I expected that. But the wife and I also noticed that we could smell the exhaust more. It's hard to tell in the photo but it looks like the exhaust exists the pipes below the trailer so I thought the smell would go right back under the trailer. I wouldn't mind except I'm a little concerned about breathing too much of it in if we get stuck in stop and go traffic...should I be worried or is it fine? Is there an alternative? I see these aren't the stock pipes. Would it help if they were stock? Are the pipes or sleeves you slip on the ends of the pipes that curve outward so the exhaust is shot out to the side instead of the back? And if so, would that help anything? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to pulling a trailer on the bike...
  9. Well, I had today off and thought I'd work more on the bike. It was a good day for me. I've got pics of my "firsts"... 1. Installed an extra power port in trunk. Plan to install another below passenger left leg but had to order the plug to get a water proof one. 2. Installed the round vents in my windshield. This was a bit nerve racking for me because I didn't want to ruin the windshield. It was actually pretty easy though and turned out nice. I have them a little more toward the center than some I've seen but some reviews I read said you don't get much air when they are more outside...took it for a spin and get a little bit of air...nothing too spectacular but enough help on 110 degree days. 3. Pulled the trailer. Finally got the trailer tagged and road ready. I've never pulled a trailer before with the RSV, so I took it out on the road for a little bit then came back and put the wife on to see how it rides 2up. All in all it did well. We road it around town for about 25 miles and took it on the highway. Pulled straight and no big issues. 4. Tested out our new Scala Rider Q2 Multiset bluetooth headsets on this ride. They worked pretty well. We sometimes had a hard time connecting via intercom but I think that's more our learning curve than the device. We also connected our phones to them and received phone calls while riding. Wife said she couldn't even tell I was on a motorcycle even though I was going about 55 at the time. All in all a great day. We are just about ready for our 2700 mile trip in June. Next step, load up the trailer and pull it around to ensure I'm comfortable with the extra weight.:cool10:
  10. You are the best dad ever! Many are inconsiderate and leave money for their kids after they die but this often leads to in-fighting among family members. You have thought ahead enough to eliminate this by spending it all before then...you have got to get the dad of the year award! :rotf:
  11. Ahh, the radio...it was my first upgrade...It's a Pioneer P3200BT. They have a newer model (P3300BT), but I'm cost concious (umm, cheap), so I got the older model (and open box) from Amazon.com. Normal price is about $400-450 in the retail stores around here and I got it for $290. It is touch screen, bluetooth (the "bt" of the model number), USB and SD card, Play movies (from dvd, SD or USB), and integrates and controls the iPod directly from the radio. There are other models that are not "bt" but "dvd". these do everything except the bluetooth. You can add bluetooth and navigation by buying the add-on units (for something around $200-250 each!). Only thing I didn't like about this model is that the USB is in the front. That's great if you access it once in a while but I wanted to plug in my ipod and leave it plugged in. I didn't want the ugly cord hanging down all the time. So I opened up the radio and soldiered in a USB extention cable and ran it out of the back of the radio into my glove box. Now you don't have to see it! The other thing about this (and many other) radio is that (for legal reasons) it disables the video except when the parking brake is on. this is an easy fix. Added a toggle switch that grounds the proper line whenever I want, this allow you to watch videos whenever you want even with the car moving. I don't plan to watch it while driving but I don't see why the passanger shouldn't be able to watch it while I'm driving! Thanks for the comments. I felt the same way about the looks of the Mustange and the years you listed are pretty much what I liked too... Mike
  12. Well, I decided it has been over a year since my last mid-life crisis, so I had better get on it. I haven't had a nice vehicle (other than motorcycles) for myself in MANY years. The wife always seems to get the new car and I get the hand me down. So I decided my F-250 was burning too much diesel at $4.00 a gallon. Although this car doesn't get a ton more mileage, it does get a little more and the gas is cheaper. It's a 2006 Ford Mustang with 38,000 miles. Just the standard v6 model but a good compromise between the look I wanted and the better gas mileage I wanted. Looks brand new inside and out. I added window tint and a new radio so far...but this thing is like when you start adding to our bikes...there just isn't any end in sight to the accessories I could add. Some things in the future that might be added: hood scoop, window louvers, rims, chin and rear spoilers...It's a fun car. I don't drive it hard (never been a speed demon) but it can get up and go when needed. I'm a happy boy with a new toy!
  13. Thanks! one more question. I notice on the Q2 that it charges through a regular household plug...we will be on the road for over a week and don't know where we will have electric. I figured I'd just charge them at night on the bike but not sure how best to do this...do I just plug an inverter into the bike and they plug the headsets into the inverter? I was afraid the inverter would drain the bike battery...or is there a 12v plug for the Q2 I should get? What have you guys done?
  14. The FM modulator sounds like a viable option. I guess I'm always looking for the holy trinity: Cheap, good quality, feature rich. You can usually find any 2 out of 3 but finding all three is extremely hard!
  15. :whistling: Well, since you offered, now I kinda feel obligated...:rotf: Guess I'll HAVE to stay there now! just have my old room ready! You guys planning to get to the meet and eat on Thursday and stay through Sunday? That's what we were planning...but we are flexible. Mike
  16. Thanks everyone! Can't wait to get on the road. Would love to have a cup of coffee or ride among some of you as we pass through your areas...anyone interested kiddy leave us a note here and we will add you to our trip book and call the night before...
  17. Thanks Brian. That alleviates one worry at least!
  18. Question for those of you using our know about this headset. I just got it in the mail and its charging but got a couple of questions. 1. Can the rider and passenger have their headsets paired to different phones? That way she can answer her phone and I can answer mine, but more importantly, when shes on her own bike with our without me along, I'm hoping it can be paired to her own phone. 2. Anyone using a Captivate phone with this set? Are you able to get your navigation over BT from the Captivate? I really dont want to spend $500 on aZumo if I can just use my phone... 3. Any other recommendations before we get started using them? Thanks! Mike
  19. Gary, I appreciate. We will actually be spending a week in OK because that's where all the family lives. So Dad's got a shop there too and, even though he's gone to the darkside, he was a Venture rider for years and as far as I know, he's still got his venture in the shop...You coming to Eureka Springs? I think my dad and brother (and wives) will be meeting us there. Maybe everyone in OK will meetup for a ride out there. Mike
