  1. Heading out in the morning for our 2700 mile trip from Colorado Springs to Chicago, then down Route 66 to NM then back up to Colorado Springs....with lots of stops along the way! If anyone would like to follow our progress, we are going to try to "blog" about it as we go...I've never really done a blog, so we will see how it works...Here's the link: http://mikeandkerrisjune2011motorcycletrip.blogspot.com/ :cool10:
  2. In this case you might be right...but it doesn't make up for other times or prices...so maybe unfair of me this time but when you create a certain image, sometimes you have to live with it for a while...
  3. I dropped my 06 RSV off last week at the stealership because the rear shock was leaking. Even though you all told me that it was covered under warranty, I still expected them to come back and say it wasn't covered for some obscure reason....Well, I got the call today that my shock was in and they have received approval from Yamaha to replace it! So in a few days I'll have the bike back...Just in time for our 2700 mile trip!
  4. I can't speak for others, but for me, I always feel almost embarrassed when someone thanks me for serving...It's a good feeling, don't get me wrong...but I've always felt that it was an honor and a privilege for my country to ALLOW me to serve. Regardless, I (and I'm sure all current or previous service members) appreciate those that do remember us...Thank you all! Mike USAF 1993 - Current
  5. Thanks for the replies...pretty much along the lines of what I expected. Guess it doesn't take but a few more seconds secure everything...We usually carry our helments in but sometimes it's a pain depending on where you are...so I should start using the helmet locks more. I like the idea of locking the jacket up with a cable but probably would only do it if we were going to leave the bike for a while (like on a tour). I agree that the GPS is something that's just WAY to easy for someone to snag walking by...
  6. I have an 06 RSV that is still under warranty for a few months...The rear shock appears to be leaking now. Is this something that is covered under the warranty?
  7. I'm sure there will be a lot of opinions on this, but I was wondering how you all do this while traveling. What I'm talking about is your GPS, helmets, jackets, cups, etc. When you stop, do you take all, some or none of this stuff with you? Does it matter if it's a 15 minute ice cream stop verses a 1.5 hour dinner? Also, do you keep your trunk and bags locked at all times? I've kind of bounced back and forth depending on the area of town I'm in but was wondering what others do while travelling.... Thanks for your help! Mike
  8. We leave out on our trip from Colorado Springs to Chicago then down Route 66 on Jun 17th or 18th...but if you find yourself getting to Colorado Springs before then, drop us a line! We will buy you a cup of coffee and see how your trip is going! You can give me some advice on how I've packed and such! Mike n Kerri
  9. Still making improvements for our Jun ride. I saw several different options on here for cup holders. The option I had decided to go with was the water bottle holder from Wal-Mart. I found a couple on clearance and bought them but before I got around installing them, I found these. I got them from the bike section in my local PX (on Fort Carson Army Post). I had to bend the brackets slightly to fit around the handlebars and the rubber on the rear grab bars (though if you wanted to cut the rubber off, they would have worked). I think they look really nice and should be functional. The only thing is you have to make sure you have a cup that tapers so that it will stay in...so a regular water bottle won't work...but we plan to just find some nice cups with straws, then we will dump whatever we are drinking in the cup and we can drink from the straw with the helmet on and no tilting of the head.... I've included a picture of the product packaging incase anyone else is interested. They are a nice chrome look. Oh, and they cost a whole $5.86 each! Mike
  10. Thanks for the advice guys! I'm currently tracking/bidding on a couple of the hand pumps on ebay. I think I would feel safer doing that that using my air tank... I plan to have this bike for a long time, so I want to have the main tools I need to maintain it! Mike
  11. Okay, not sure if these are real or not, but I thought it was funny as heck! http://www.handerpants.com/ Won't be long before everyone will be wearing them...get yours quick and lead the new trend!:rotf:
  12. yep, 3.25 inch hole saw...$21 at Lowes...
  13. A progressive pump? I'll have to look that up...do you think the stealership will adjust the air for free if I take it in?
  14. You may have seen my post: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59272&highlight=trailer about getting my trailer out for the first time. Do I need to add air to my rear shocks? I'll be riding 2up but we only weight about 280 together. I don't know how much air I have in there now but I think it's pretty much zero.... Thanks!
  15. I did notice a little bit of "jerkiness" in the front end when going over bumps or rough roads but I assume that's natural as the trailer bounces around a little bit. This might be better when I get some weight in it??
  16. That's kind of what I was thinking about the smell too but wasn't sure. We didn't even notice it by the end of the ride. The noise is a little loud but not too bad. We have 3/4 helmets, so that helps with the sound. If I found someone with stock pipes that wanted to trade me though, I would probably swap them out. I like the look of these pipes but I've never been on to need a loud rumble...I don't think these are really loud but they are louder than stock...
  17. Yeah. Even though I kept looking back to make sure it was tracking good and nothing was going wrong, when the wife and I would start talking, I wouldn't even remember it was there...That's until it came to slow down to start off... A little more stopping distance and a little more gas required to get up to speed. Not bad on either account but the trailer was empty too...
