    Pipes

Freebird’s guesstimate on model years above is pretty close. I think mine came from a 2009 and had the cat. The cat is in the right side and it is easy to tell once you have them in hand because the right side is noticeably heavier. I tried to remove it but made a mess of it. My set was free so I had nothing to lose. A quick search on eBay I found somebody selling a left side for $25. So I have two left pipes but you can’t tell the difference. I think I have more money invested in the chrome clamps to connect to the header pipes than in the mufflers
  2. I use a hole saw in the middle of the tread. Turn hole to the bottom and “drain” them into a pan. Then break the beads
  3. Why? They want to copy Harley
  4. I use a block of wood under the side stands of my bikes. Each has its own small block stored in the bike
  5. Have you considered balance beads? I have been using (and reusing) the Counteract brand. They last longer than Dynabeads. I believe it’s because they are glass but it’s been a while since I read up on them.
  6. Or remember to turn fuel off at petcock every time you turn off engine.
  7. Have you considered Bagger Shield? Three simple wingnuts and you can have either short or tall. I use mine in the lowered position on really warm days and to and from the office (lower speeds). Long rides, cooler weather, and with a passenger I use it in the raised position. They too, or used to, offer members a discount
  8. Not likely (on the warranty) since they have had five year warranty on the Ventures and RSTD's for several years
  9. I did 800 coming back from our international rally two summers ago. It took me around 15 hours but I had two heavy rain storms to deal with. Normal long trip would 400-500 in day
  10. i shared a thought to your post in the watering hole
  11. I just wrote the checks and will send them to our friendly IRS folks on Monday!
  12. sounds like you may have a plugged tank vent. I'm not sure on your model but most bikes have a steel tube on the tank and rubber hose from that to extend the vented fumes to the atmosphere. Take it off and blow through it as it probably has a bug nest in it
  13. Our International Rally was held here in 2016 with the resort serving as a basecamp. They have both camping and nice rooms. Great roads and lots of scenery https://www.canaanresort.com/
  14. The Second Gens had 5 year warranty without running any of it through an "extended warranty" process as they are doing for the new Third Gen. Not saying there is any difference from the Second to Third Gen warranty coverage, just clarifying the 5 year warranty has been in place for previous Ventures and RSTD's.
  15. have you considered an electric winch? I use one when loading a heavy bike in my trailer. Some have wireless remote controls but I have a cheap one from Harbor Freight and it is corded but the cord is plenty long enough. I can walk up a second ramp alongside the bike as the winch pulls it up slowly.
  16. Many are discussed in the Tech Library. Here's one thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?1067-A-list-of-known-problems-on-the-Second-Gen-Venture
  17. I too, need to be accessible. I use a UClear blue tooth communicator on my full face/modular helmet that is blue toothed to my iPhone and mounted on my handlebars. I have a cheap little charger mounted inside the fairing with the cable routed out and along the bars to the phone. I am able to text, phone, and email wireless and hands free. (not that I do it much, I usually pull over)
  18. I think he is asking about the Gen 3
  19. The only times I have had popping was cured with some SeaFoam and a carb sync. I’ve never touched the AIR system
  20. why do you need to let it dry out before closing it up?
  21. 1948 Farmall model C with a 60" belly mower and 7 acres - I use it every other week during the prime mowing season
  22. Probably since the Eluder and RSTD are comparable
  23. You have purchased a 3-4 year old vehicle so there should be a track record of expected or highly likely repair issues. Do your homework on line and should be able to identify them. For any potential extended service plan read it very carefully to see if the potential failures are listed. The wording must match exactly or they can deny coverage. There are seldom any gray areas in these contracts. In my previous career I wrote extended coverage contracts and can speak from experience the issuer is very careful to avoid coverage of certain repairs. I was employed by a large auto dealer organization and we formed our own separate company to administer these. As previously mentioned they are an extreme crapshoot and I personally will never buy one. From the purchaser’s viewpoint there will always be a success where they saved money. You could say these are similar to a casino. The house makes big money in the overall picture.
  24. Amazing! Great job. She really looks good
  25. how quickly do you accumulate miles? I do 15-20,000 per year so I would wear it out before it aged out
