  1. I got my Wolo horn from O'Reilley's Auto parts several years ago and it was a couple bucks cheaper than Harbor Freight
  2. At midpoint on the sight glass I will get oil in the air inlet so I keep mine just below midway
  3. I have the taller version and almost always have it in the taller position. I like the reduced wind buffeting with most of my riding at highway speed. If I remember correctly, the taller version Baggershield is similar in height to the Yamaha factory shield. Pretty much the only time I have it lowered is in the rain. The rain droplets clear from my helmet visor with the windshield down. The plastic wingnuts are hardly noticeable after you get used to them
  4. @zagger - if you are looking for a place to stay, try the Hickory Hill. I just cancelled my reservation because I will not be able to make it this weekend
  5. A little clarification and correction to what Dueyk said: As enter Savanna from the north, Clay Street will be the 2nd or 3rd left. It turns into North 5th St and then into the Scenic Ridge Rd that Bill mentions in the earlier post. Later, Scenic Ridge becomes Derinda Rd. As Deuyk recommended, go through Elizabeth and turn right on S Elizabeth Scales Mound Rd. (i think there is a Dollar Store on the corner) Scales Mound is in Illinois and Stagecoach Trail is just south of town. Thanks for tip on Dirty Gerts, Dueyk, I have not tried that one.
  6. @AGrengs, will we be seeing you at Orlin's Maintenance Day in Viroqua WI next weekend?
  7. A couple of suggestions beyond what Bill has said. In Galena, there is a road from the highway that goes through town (routes84/20) that heads south towards Chestnut Mountain ski lodge (it's called Blackjack Road). This is a nice ride through the countryside. You can stop at the ski resort as it is open during the summer. There is a restaurant and what they call an "alpine slide" where you sit on a small platform and follow a track down the ski hill and ride the chairlift back up. Our VentureRiders International rally was held here a few years ago. This was the base and we had day trips every day through week to Anamosa, IA and Field of Dreams movie site, LeClaire, IA (American Pickers museum), and others. If you continue past the ski resort you will run into rts 84 again and if you head south as Bill described you will get to Savanna, IL. As mentioned already, a must see is Mississippi Palisades State Park just north of Savanna. It is worth it to drive through and be sure to take the side branches from the main road to the scenic overlooks. They are all or at least mostly all, a short walk from a parking lot. Continuing to Savanna there is Poopy's bike bar but in the downtown area there is a place called "Frank Fritz' Finds" (or something similar). This is Frank from the American Pickers TV show. I have driven past this 100's of times and never stopped but plan to one of these days. Across the street is a pizza/taco place called Manny's and I recommend it. I've been stopping there for nearly 40 years. An option to head north from this area would be to cross the Mississippi at Savanna to Subula, IA and then head north following the river up to Dubuque.
  8. Do they pivot at the rear to allow access?
  9. Hope you are Ok
  10. I've got that one and it works fine. That, a couple of spoons, new valve stem, and balance beads and you are good to go. And maybe a little sweat
  11. I have CarbonOne's adapter. Never had trouble with that spring
  12. Did that with a buddy in the early '70's. We didn't suspect carbon- just wanted to dump some water in to see what would happen. We poured tap water out of a Coke bottle into the carb until the exhaust manifolds glowed bright orange! There couldn't have been a flake of carbon in that small block chevy when we finished!
  13. I think there is post or two about someone doing this. However with the proper zero release hand pump I find it fairly easy to hit the equal pressure in both.
  14. The only time I have had oil in the places you describe is when the oil level is at or above midpoint on the site glass. You are checking it with the bike level and off the side stand, right?
  15. Use a pry bar or if you have room, a 2x4, under the rear tire to lift it slightly to take tension off brackets.
  16. Yea, I have not seen a video in a long time - The last one I saw was Puc's video when he found the broken yoke causing the noise in Tweek's driveline. I use IPad and IPhone
  17. Glad I saw the last post. I had forgotten to reserve a room. Just called and Vernon Inn was full but was able to get in at Hickory Hill. Will see you Friday afternoon
  18. Carbs out of sync can cause popping in the exhaust
  19. I buy new each time and run them to 250,000 to 300,000. About 30,000 miles/yr. I have always had GM and no problems except had to replace a transmission in my last one (beyond warranty). Switched to Ford F150 with twin turbo V-6 for the current one. 65,000 miles in just over 2 years and no problems except had to replace lug nuts. I have found Ford has a problem with rust under the cheap tin cap on them causing them to swell and the lug wrench no longer fits. Went with aftermarket and no problems (after switching from some that rusted immediately from Rock Auto - 2 sets - same thing. Got my $ back just had to pay shipping)
  20. I have the Craftsman jack and it works great with CarbonOne's adapter. If you get his adapter, also get the optional legs. I can't imagine working on the bike without that stand. I used to mess around with 2x4's and hockey pucks as spacers on the jack but they are not as sturdy as the adapter. And they with the legs you can pull the jack out from under it for all kinds of extra room to work.
  21. Read this article over the weekend. I'm not supporting it or offering an opinion. Just sharing the article since it seemed to fit the discussion https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/washington-could-become-first-state-legalize-human-composting-n952421
  22. Niota, Illinois??? That's a tiny unincorporated village of less than 800 people along the Mississippi river. I was a few miles from there yesterday.
  23. For what it’s worth, I have ordered three sets of car and truck tires in the past months with no problems at all. Installation is a little tougher as at least local to me, you cannot make an appointment for install. You show up the store and it’s first come first served. Sorry to break away from the oil topic.
  24. I’m in the Peoria area most of the time and would look forward to a get together. Also, Mike’s Root Beer run has taken a detour this year and is going to be in Virginia this year.
  25. Mine had 30,000+ Miles on it when I got rid of the bike.
