I had this happen on an Honda GL1000. Got a ride to an auto parts store and purchased a new battery. While installing it I found that the negative battery cable at its grounding point to the frame was loose. I never new for sure if the battery shorted internally due it's failure or the bad ground caused the battery to get hot internally and fail. New battery and cleaned and tightened the ground cable and was good to go.

I had a key cut at ACE with no problem. They copied it from my every day use key

Hey MikeG in SC, if you or the significant other are traveling Illinois toll roads again and you drive through the iPass or even a Coin Only toll without paying you can pay online. I believe there is a time limit but there is a website where you pay without penalty. Recently I had a rental car and didn't have my iPass and turned off the toll road and the exit was .60 coins only. I had no change so drove through. Paid the .60 online when I got home. If hadn't they would have tracked me down though the rental car company and ticketed me. Don't ask me how I know

When my son, 6'3", was in college he had a buddy give him a non- running '78 Honda CB750. Over the previous few years he had hinted he should be able to ride one of my bikes. Remembering how I used to ride when I was that age I was not too keen on allowing that to happen. I must have been more forthcoming with expressing my desires about he not riding than I could remember because sought out his mother's advise on how to tell me he had a bike. Anyway, I trailered the bike to my shop and it turned into a fantastic father/son project. We approached it from a restoration point of view. We tore it down to the frame and rebuilt, sandblasted, painted, and polished every component. While I funded the project, the time together and the education he received was priceless. He has since restored three more bikes of similar vintage and is now building a custom turbo charged 900+ cc engine out of 750 cc engine. I share this story because it ties into some of the comments posted already: an older bike teaches the maintenance need, is typically lower cost, the 750 is a decent starter bike in terms of size and availability of parts, and isn't obnoxiously powerful when compared to the crotch rockets. Plus the investment in the time and effort in taking a junker and making it look and run like it did when it was new might lead to more careful riding to avoid damaging it.

I believe you said in one of your posts the bit had not been removed in quite some time or even ever. It might be a good idea to put a very light coat of oil on the collet the next bit you use

Jburrel. Search eBay. Seems I saw somebody selling those at a decent price. They caught my attention because I was needing the same as you a couple of years ago. That bolt will be a tough one to find. The head is special in order fit in the recess. I ended up getting mine from the Yamaha/star booth at Sturgis at no charge.

I've done this a couple of times. The first time was a few years ago and I found a step by step description on this site. I have been searching and not found it but I am using my phone - will try later. Plan on a full day for your first time. I lay out an old blanket on the floor and place the parts on it in order of removal. It helps to take pictures of everything as you disassemble - especially cable routing.

Which is the most economical way to add more running/brake/turn signal visibility to the rear: the Harley bracket or replacing the stock rear turn signal assemblies with used front turn signal assy's? They appear to be interchangeable. Assuming one could find used ones on eBay, red LED's could be added, and splice in the wires from the taillight circuit and brake light. Would this provide decent rear running lights, additional brake lights, and brighter turn signals with LED's?
