  1. As puc said, if you are over the mid point, bike level, cold engine, it will pull oil up into the air ducks under the tank and make a mess. I did it once, early on and had oil dripping out of the plastic ducts and down the the side of the carbs.
  2. I only have mine flipped down in hot weather and short trips. This requires my helmet face shield lowered and it can get warm. Most of my riding is in the raised position and it provides great protection. Very little wind buffeting for rider and passenger and I ride with my face shield open. I do agree that the tinted lower makes it difficult to see in some slow speed maneuvers especially in low light. overall I do prefer it over the stock windshield
  3. With mine there was a weight difference between cat or not. It was pretty easy to tell which had the cat
  4. I received a free set from a 2010 Road Glide. The right side had the converter. I found a guy selling just the left side on eBay for $25 so I have two left mufflers. They have some baffling but not much. From what I found out was the Harley has very little exhaust routed to the left muffler hence the converter only in the right. Never had a Harley so I can't confirm. They are louder than factory but not as loud as the Baron 4-2-4's I used to have
  5. The Wolo horn was available at Harbor Freight and O'Reilly Auto Parts when I bought mine about 5 years ago. Slightly cheaper for the same horn at the time at O'Reilly. It has lasted all this time with no problems. I purchased the polished bracket and relay/power feed wires from member @Carbon_One http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=10&title=stebel-2f-wolo-air-horn-wiring-harness&cat=15
  6. We plan to visit Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, the Smokey Mountains, and ride the Blue Ridge Parkway Our International Rally is mid September in West VA. If it works into your schedule it would be great opportunity for you to meet many of our members. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=456&day=2016-9-12&c=1
  7. The RSTD has the cruise power switch on the right grip near or at the location of the Venture 4 way switch since there isn't a fairing.
  8. Does the electric cooling fan come on?
  9. Hey Rick. He did say to leave the plastic on Might gradually get more difficult as you increase in speed too.
  10. Or... If it costs more it has to be better... Right? The cost is higher since production is lower due to lower demand.
  11. Some of my old bikes have tool pouches stored under the seat and I keep it there. I know some modern models have had those eliminated. Otherwise maybe he can keep it in his wallet?
  12. A co-worker of mine had his shortened on his non-Venture. He had a welding shop do it and while I don't recall what they charged, it seems it wasn't too costly. His was not chrome but a chrome one may necessitate painting or re chroming, depending on how particular you are.
  13. 28-40 degrees F - textile with thermal liner 40-70 - textile with no liner but vents open at higher end of range 70+ - mesh but carry the windbreaker weight liner in case the temp drops after dark
  14. As Condor said, tongue weight should be 10% of total loaded weight of trailer. I try for just a little more if I can get it
  15. If you have a set of Yamaha passing lamps from a RSTD the switch will be a small toggle switch on one of the light housings. My Venture has that since I took them off my RSTD when I traded it in. I wired mine to be on all the time with key on. The switch on the housing will override that and turn them off if desired.
  16. Thanks @yamagrl, that's what I was looking for. My 1960's vintage tach/dwell has finally died.
  17. V7Goose, RE: "...important to have both a real tach ..." What do you recommend for a tach? Type? Brand?
  18. Harley pipes for me. It's best to avoid those where there is a catalytic converter in the right side pipe.
  19. Baggershield for me, too. They offer a discount for our members.
  20. Have you checked to see if there is a draw on the battery when everything is assumed to be off?
  21. rbig, Diamond cut Mike had an engine last fall. He's located pretty close to you
  22. Looks like this might be a good post for the 2nd Gen Tech section
  23. If you don't mind my asking, how much did the lic plate frame cost?
  24. I had purchased the factory passing lamps for my RSTD. Unlike the Venture factory lights the RSTD lights have a small toggle switch on one of the lamp housings. I don't see it in your picture but I am using my phone so it may be there and I just can't see it on the small screen.
