  1. Life has to have some value attached to it to really give a crap. The way I see it, you're only here as long as you're here. I care about as much about my life as I do about theirs. I don't play kiddie club games.
  2. I don't wear a vest, but I know that respect is earned. A complete stranger telling me to do something earns no respect from me. Plus I have problems with taking directions. No, I don't think I'm bad. I have a paralyzed leg thanks to Uncle Sam. I know I'm not. I do know I'm armed and have a lot of spare ammo on me at all times though. What? You think I wouldn't do it? Try me...
  3. looks like i need to go buy a leather vest and a "rocker"... I have a nice little surprise under my shirt, though, and I know how to be a violent person, too...
  4. She's 5 1/2 months old now. Already trying to sit up on her own and attempting crawling. This is her supervising me, the wife and son trying to clear a fence in the back yard yesterday http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00304.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00311.jpg She and the basset hound love each other... http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00287.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00286.jpg This is how it begins... http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/IMG00032-20110318-1447.jpg
  5. I have a journalism degree, and actually wrote for a living there for a while. In that industry, you very rarely see anything but a Mac. A decade ago, they were wildly different from PC's, but not so now. You can set up a Mac to run anything from a PC, but you can't really do the same for a PC. Macs are typically a better machine, but I can't justify spending almost twice as much on a computer that I just play on. The wife does a little bit of work related stuff, and our son does a bit of homework, but nothing really serious. I may look closer at Macs when the son hits his pre-law college work, but I still have to get him through high school first.
  6. Nice to see numbers 2 and 3 are a day ride for me. Sad to see that US Hwy 421 from NE TN to NW NC, aka the Snake, didn't make the list, though.
  7. HAHA...Mine was a Tecumsah 5HP, and it was (very faded) yellow. The brakes worked fine, though. Dad taught my brother to wrench early, and since he is 9 years older than me, they both taught me to wrench before I learned to read. In other words, we were expected to maintain our toys...
  8. Heard it on WCYB. Glad she is is safe an home!
  9. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00279.jpg http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00276.jpg width=450 height=600http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00278.jpg[/img] http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00280.jpg My first mod was to replace the whimpy stock mufflers with Rinehart 3.5" slip ons. Of course I had a good supervisor for this job http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00275.jpg The wife actually wanted to sit in "her seat," as she called it. Looks like she might start riding with me after all. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00274.jpg I joined hdforums back when I bought the sporty, but I was later banned. I guess some of my opinions were too strong for them. I just thought of something...I must be a real bad a-- to get banned from a Harley Davidson forum
  10. Thanks all. I'll try to take/post some pics later today. You really don't want to know what they gave me on trade; just $1000. That was my fault, because I told the sales manager that if he couldn't give me at least a grand on it that I would just keep it. Not mean or anything, just wasn't worth the effort to bring two bikes if I was going to have to give one away.It all even out, though. They gave me $300 over the Black Book average retail price for my sporty ($6900). Still ended up being a chunk of money for a bike. I better get used to it, because it's gonna be mine for a loooong time. That means I can start the mods today, right?
  11. I traded my VR and Sporty for a '11 Ultra Classic Electra Glide today. I'll still hang around and hope to ride with some of you in the future, though.
  12. A cold MRE is better than a hot T-Rat any day!
  13. We spend our own money on things WE feel we need because of the unit's TO&E. It's that simple. It's not that the military wants your children to starve or die due to lack of equipment. Each individual unit has a mission. That commander, along with his chain of command and every soldier on every field exercise has determined every piece of equipment listed on that TO&E. They don't just slap this stuff together and run. It takes years and several different changes of command to get the complete plan together, which goes right out the window as soon as the first bullet makes that supersonic crack as it passes 2 inches from your head. Then, when the unit realizes that it has a need that is not met from the TO&E, they send it up the chain of command, and the slow wheels of the military start to move. It will take years to get what they need, not because the military wants your kid to get killed, but because some politician in Washington (either in a uniform or a suit) tries to figure out how to grease his own pocket in the matter. So the troops in the field adapt, improvise, and overcome...just the way they were taught. They will buy, beg and borrow until they get the correct stuff to keep them safer and make them a more effective fighting unit. Thanks to your son for his service, but please learn a little more about how the government military complex works before making a post like this. I abhor it when folks who have no idea how this stuff works starts ranting about the military. It's just not as easy as filling a obvious need when politicians are involved.
  14. Currently have two bikes. The VR and a '07 XL1200C Sportster. My son has a DR125, too. I am trading the Sporty (most likely) this Saturday, and there is a possibility that I will trade the VR in also if I go for the Ultra Limited. I don't have a need for two touring bikes. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/DSC00064.jpg
  15. more eyes open in Bristol. Will post story to my Facebook page right now.
  16. Glad yours was easy. I've had one done on the hands, and one done on the spine/legs. I almost got arrested over the hands. I told the doc that was it, and he didn't want to listen, so I lost it a bit on him. The back was no fun, either. The left leg was horrible, but since my right leg is mostly paralyzed I didn't feel anything there.
  17. Not sure how I forgot to mention it in my other post, but leftover roast beef is pretty awesome, too. First day is with taters and carrots, smothered in juices, second day is heaped on kaiser rolls and slathered in mustard...ah crap! Now I want a roast beef sammich!
  18. Merry Christmas from me and a belated Happy Hanukkah from my wife:santa:
  19. FTW! Also most Italian dishes seem to be better the second day. So much so, that when I make baked ziti I take it out of the oven and put it straight in the fridge, then we eat it the next day.
  20. Haha...we only got about 6" down here in town. I'm hearing reports of anywhere from 12"-18" up the hill, though.
  21. Most of us drive in it just fine. Just saying it gets a bit dicier when the road is either straight up or straight down with 180* turns and 1000' drop offs. Come on up here and I'll show you what I mean...
  22. You should try it when every road is just like The Snake or The Dragon, only not as well kept.
  23. It's a little different in this part of TN. Some people still go crazy, but most are used to it. There is a big difference in getting snow in flat country and getting it where we live, though.
  24. Congrats! Get sleep when you can....seriously
  25. Bought a brand new one in 2008. Mega cab, 4X4, Laramie; the truck of my dreams. It ate 3 rear main seals before it had 8K miles on the odometer. Tried a Wrangler after that, and it ate 3 manual transmissions before it had 9K on the odometer. I went BACK to Ford after that. Bought a used '07 F-150 and never looked back. There is a reason that they are America's number one selling truck...because they are dependable. That's just been my experience...other's may vary.
