Need help removing the rear axle
djh3 replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Put the nut on a couple threads to protect it. Then you can give the nut a tap and not worry about the threads a lot. I use a brass drift. Might try supporting the wheel a bit as if it has all the weight on it once the bolt get part way out of the diff, the weight shifts and makes the bolt drag. Not sure if the pipes need to come off or not. -
Broke my right hand 32+ years ago. Little bone that hold the thumb in place or something like that. Better than 12 weeks later and 3 casts I started physical therapy. It still aint rite. No grip strength like I once had limited mobility and aches in cold. Hope your works out better.

I use to take some painters tape and some of those dozens of plastic bags the stores like to pass out and cover the tank and leg fairing any place you might drip fluid. I also turned the bars so the reservoir was level. After covering things in plastic bags I also covered in an old towel or some rags. If your doing the clutch, you might as well do the brakes. Brake fluid is hydroscopic. It will absorb water and as such it will boil easier so you get less braking action. I had a severe brake fade happen in the mountains one year behind some Jack A riding the brakes going downhill. Since then I flush the brakes and clutch every year.

Wire.... What to use ... and how to join...?
djh3 replied to Mad Dog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If your going to add a bunch of stuff, extra lights, and things that need a separate power possibly. Add an aux fuse box. I think I got some pics on the other PC of the way I put mine in under the seat. I ran some 10ga wire from battery over to the aux box and then ran my extra lights etc off that box. Most stuff ran off a relay with key on power. -
I think I remember reading something about that a few years back. Would some large fender washers and maybe file them down so you cant see them help out displace the stress.

My motion pro didnt have any fluid in it when I got it. It had evaporated or went else where. So after some reading, some guys were running antifreeze in the gauge. The actual motion stuff is kind of pricey. A bit more research and found guys liked using 2 stroke mix oil. If it happened to suck some in it aint no biggie. It has worked fine for me. Set gauges and even out, then adjust. Keeps it smooth running and mileage reasonable.

PAR 36 bulbs. Any bulb with that designation will fit. I had a pair of Adjure housings with LED H3 or H1 bulbs which ever ones are supposed to fit. I forget right now. -
Read up on this a bit the other night. Texas is one of like 5 states that has no current law on books about testing and driving. So chances of him getting anything besides a "crossing the center line" infraction may be slim. Now families can sue in civil court, but will probably be a limited settlement there as no charges would be set. I followed a young girl in a car Fri next to 2 big rigs coming home from Dr. 50mph zone but traffic kind of thick so slower. I watched her sway from one side of lane to the other, spike the brakes and swerve back over. She almost ran into and under one of the trucks. At the stop light I was making a left and passed her, yup sure enough phone in hand worried about something besides what SHOULD have been the task at hand. So people just dont have a clue.

Ya I have a Color Tune and a motion pro sync tool I probably need to find a new home for.

So do you know the required words and phrases? This site may help you out. Food, thank you, no thank you, and that was very good. You should be set for awhile.

So I'm guessing your not going to International in Wisconsin. I had seen in a post early on you were talking about going up for it. Thought I might look into tagging along.

SPYDER Man SPYDER Man, won't be seen on 2 wheels again!

You need to test ride some to see if you even like it I would think. If none available, maybe try Eagle Rider and rent one for a day or 2. -
I knew there was a good reason I avoid going thru Atlanta like going to the dentist. The traffic there is a mess to start with. Now with a major highway out like this folks are going to have to leave tonight to be at work in the morning.

Left fairing 12 volt plug...
djh3 replied to cwhite123174's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I finally just cut to the chase and installed one of these and then used a USB cord to fit phone and the same for the GPS. the heat shrink connection @ USB to seal. Made it less messy also as I could tie wrap the wires with the clutch and brake hoses. -
Left fairing 12 volt plug...
djh3 replied to cwhite123174's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I found it more to be the 'type" of plug. My Garmin would back out, so I wired it up with its own plug eventually. Problem solved. Then I started for a little bit a del plug before I made the dedicated power. One side for GPS one side for phone. You know that cheap ole piece of junk would stay in no problems. Then I tried my phone charger in the plug and it was hit and miss. I put the duel plug splitter in and it fine So I just went with that for a long time until the duel plug died. So Maybe the plug itself (GPS/phone). I know if it is a longer plug with the like 45 on it they se to walk out more on me. Good luck. -
Problems with the Trike.

Crankcase over fill is easy to check. Just look in the sight glass. That would have to be an EXTREME case I would think. I have seen more ground problems with electrical stuff than positive voltage. As Mike mentioned the ground is a good suspect. I guess if you smell gas and think possibly it could have the cyl filled with gas you could pull the plugs and then the motor would spin freely. -
That was Oklahoma's favorite way to "fix" roads. Spray a little tar and dump gravel. Cars pack it down good as new right? Not so much. I have had the ocasion to hit these roads very soon after the gravel. Man it aint fun. Cowpuc may be fine 2 trackin on one of these big ole bikes, but it aint my idea of fun.

So this needs to be moved to the First Gen section I'm guessing.

I have stayed in Franklin a couple times. Mondays is kind of hard to find something other than chain food to eat. Seems all the locals take that day off. LOL If you do stay there definitely try out the Cafe Rel. They have a good sandwich called the Gotti. Another place to eat there is I think its called the Rail car or train car over off the north south road 441 maybe? Couple good Hampton inn, Comfort suites type hotels along with some mom n pop jobs on south end of town on north south route out of Ga.

I too feel awkward at times when folks say thanks. The couple articles I read here lately made me stop and think. I am Desert Storm and prior. So some stuff going on but I was states side so what could I have done in Po dunk Oklahoma. I worked on cargo aircraft that were used for training, pretty run of the mill fly 5 days a week thing. So I had a couple of first term guys that evidently I helped make a good impression on. When the re upped they went to A-10 tank killers and F-16. I saw them years later at a school and they both deployed when we went over to kick Sadams azz. Had I not been there would they? I also flew as a Crew Chief on those cargo aircraft. Helping deliver mail (important back in them days) supplies and such to make life better for our troops stationed overseas. So I guess when I look at it that way I did make a difference and served proudly. Not to mention the scouts and other local things we were engaged in our town. However it still makes me feel a little strange. I just smile most times and say thanks.

I hope your going to try the dragon during the week. I might be safer. Weekends are packed with wana be moto GP guys, crazy sports car folks and occasionally a Semi. I had said occurrence to meet on of these on a Tue at the first corner going north from the restaurant/gas stop. It ended my day and damn near my life. They are not supposed to be there, but it dont stop them. BRP is great, as mentioned speeds are in the 35 mph range. No trucks or combination rigs allowed and it limits the RV's that can go there. Wheels thru time is worth the time as is the Biltmore. Especially if your a guy that likes architecture. Blowing rock is a small little place along the BRP thats kind of neat depending on time available. If you are in Franklin overnight or have time for lunch you have to try the French restaurant in the gas station. Cafe Rel As for a nice spot for your special question. On the way around Fontana dam there are some nice pull outs and over looks. Be safe above all and enjoy your selves.

Will check college schedule again. But I think I have duties till like middle of month.

LOL Yea I am kind of aware at some of the health care rules so to speak. I have had a couple friends from up that way and neighbors here in Fla that winter down here. These morons down here that spout off about you alls great health care, try to tell them some of the pit falls. They dont want to hear it. Aint nothing free, your going to pay something somewhere. I'm not saying its not a better system than what these geniuses have come up with here, because I think your folks have had longer to figure it out. To me somehow they need to take out your insurance at same time they take taxes out. If you dont pay taxes, no medical ID card and no services.
