Contact the Gunnies book folks and also Bohannon Battery and order a new one. If you got ten years out of one that is highly unusual.

Valve adjustment question

Yup me too. I had the opportunity to make sure they were all set on the high side to prolong having to do it again. -
Valve adjustment question
djh3 replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Have you sync the carbs? That was always my indication I needed to check that. Valves I think would be more a power thing. -
So how long did the motor sit? Did they pickle it? (run some oil in cyl prior to it sitting) I would bet it is carb related. Maybe some Berrymans or Seafoam. Does it pul hard in first? IE high RPM's New plugs? What do they look like? Are you using the coils etc from your engine or did they come with the motor?

For me the light might come on and about 7-10 miles later would cough and have to flip to reserve. Thats what I went by, just drive off when you flip the petcock.

What was the most thickness valve shim did you use
djh3 replied to mm482's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a bag full of shims from my FJ1200. But I still measured the clearances and then pulled the shims from the valves that were going to need a different shim. I actually only needed like 4 shims different from what was already in the motor after swapping some around from cylinder to another. If you can stand to have the bike down a few days, the shims are rather easy to get off e-bay for $8 or so. Here is a page of them. They are a 25mm shim by what ever thickness you need. They fit all sorts of bikes FJ1200, V-max, hondas. I think the majority of the shims in mine were in the 250 to 285 range. -
Well I plan on making a trip up to Daytona for Biketoberfest. I'm sure they will have some on display. But as for getting a test ride, probably not. Those are all booked up by Wednesday or so.

Clutch Sight Glass replacement
djh3 replied to videoarizona's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It almost appears as though the lens is made into the silver part there. and to change it maybe heat it and the thing would pop free like a freeze plug? I dont know though. -

My Victory has 2 bulbs, one hi and one low. Both are the same number like H-11. So I have a Sylvania Super Ultra or something in the high beam running with a modulator. I did have the same ultra whatever in the low beam, twice and they only lasted a matter of weeks like maybe 8 or so at the most. So I went back to the next one down. One with the question/story. So I have an HID kit I have been thinking about installing so it runs on the low beam. Would folks even see the modulated hi beam anymore? -
Valve adjustment question
djh3 replied to videoarizona's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I recommend once you get covers off, go thru and take reading all the way across. Maybe twice to confirm reading. Then use the handy chart and number on shim to get size of next shim needed. Sometimes you can just swap a few around and only need to buy a couple. -
Yup I did me some readin up on this yesterday. It looks like the photobucket folks changed the way they are doin things. Dont remember all the particulars and what they mean, but basically if you use them you have to go in and update your account info or your pics dont work anymore. I think someone had a thread here lately about this too. Said something about no 3rd party hosting and such. Which is way beyond my understanding.

AH so that explains why the last couple days ss that ave pics show up with some generic thingy saying image unavailable. -
Looks like they got a gearbox for a B1 or something there Steve. I was TDY up to an ANG base in Ft Chaffee Ark, They were deploying for a couple months and we were turning C-141 for them and their equipment. They had those bomb lifter things and us 141 guys had spare time, so what could go wrong? The Security Police (base cops) were not impressed. Weird vehicles huh? 64 VW bug with a 110 hp Corvair in it count? In the USAF fork lifts of varying size, bucket (high reach) type trucks. I have drove this We towed aircraft with one of these. http://www.jbtaerotech.com/%7E/media/JBT%20AeroTech/Images/Solutions/b450%20usaf.ashx?bc=%23FFFFFF&w=230 It sucked, no power had a Detroit 6V53. WE used these on occasion, they were actually C-5 uke's. Oh and this big ole POC Petibone crane. Ours was a 6cyl gas engine of some sort. Winter time would take a can or either to get it started and probably a jump. Really jerky controls with 12-1500 lb of engine parts hanging.

I forget howmany scoops that thing is. First time I went I ordered 3 scoop sundae. Little did I know they must have used a soup ladle at that time. Was about size of a softball. Little smaller now but still a very good value. Food is actually decent also.

Had a guy I know responded to an add about a camaro. 70 Camaro, nice condition, new holley yada yada tires in GC no major leaks. Being a key word. So it was like 120 miles one way, he asks for pics of the car. All looks decent so he takes a day and goes to look. Get there the thing is under a tarp because door seals are junk and leaks, interior trashed out you can see an exon valdez sized oil leak at one time, but has sat for so long the dust an leaves have absorbed it. He goes to the fellow "this dont look nothing like the pictures you sent me" Seller: Oh yea well those were the most recent I had. "Really? From when 1972?" So guess the seller picked out some nice pics of when car ran and used those, didnt tell him it was basket case. Man some of these guys selling crap. Theirs is worth a fortune, but if I'm selling it no value.

Sooooo here is your rebuttal next time. "hey honey, I found a neat place to grab some ice cream. Wanna take a ride?" Here it is.

license and endorsements. How much big brother is enough?

Here in Fla, the RV lobbyist fight pretty hard to keep out any special licencing from motorhomes and the like. If the state required a comprehensive test half these retired folks here would have to hire a drive to get out of the state. Most have never driven anything over a mini van and just jump right in a 40 foot air brake class A. No special requirements. Same with 5er. Never towed a trailer but buy a 50k PU and hooker up and away we go. I'm sure the power sport industry is same with jet ski. If they limited to 16 and up rental places would be hurting and sales would also. Half to kids running these things up and down the inlets are maybe 12-14. I'm sure Calif probably regulates the heck out of it. 20 ft trailer is one rating 30+ another etc. Just saying they are sort of $$$$ hungry and they do like to be in your bussines an awful lot. -
Yup my thoughts exactly. Its not even a running parts bike.

My luck I would cut into the wheel and ruin it.

Yea those were not the exact lights but they are similar mounting. These are them. Still listed as a "fog" lamp they work well. Mine are mounted down low by my feet. They had a function for low/high/flash you had to turn the lights on and off to get to function you wanted. I read up and a small dot of solder fixed that and permanently on high now. The clamp that goes around the bar has a set screw in it so you can adjust some left to right or what have you if need be. My issue on this bike as it was with the RSV is the clearance between the bars and the fiberglass leg fairings. I had some aircraft landing lights years ago that put out a very wide beam and others didnt like. I took some aluminum tape like the use to wrap HVAC ducts and made a shield across the top of the bulb to limit upper light beam. Kind of like the WW2 black out covers. -
Cummings tried and true. Any guess why those pushers have a Cummings and not a Powerstroke? Almost every DP I saw at the RV show in Jan in Tampa had a Cummings L6. Much newer than what in ole greenie but same dependability. I wondered a lot when you looked at the (call them standard cab) class A. Most all built on a chassis with a V10 Ford. So how come no Powerstroke? Wouldnt it make sense? On the DP there were a couple brands that had Volvo and I think Prevost had a couple with a CAT. By and large Cummings was the engine of choice.

Man I'll tell ya. With all the new technology in LED lights they are the way to go IMOP. I have a pair like this only without the cage around it. I gave about 30 bucks for a pair. -
I wont say I see them all the time. But I will say often I run across them. Here is a good example of some I run across. A fellow could contact a member close by a good buy you see, go take a look at for you and let you know. Of course your 2 opinions would have to be close.

1966 VW for me, about the same time I was working on the neighbors farm and had tractors and a C-10 pickup all manuals. Part of the problem is the EPA. With all the mileage demands of the guberment thats the way it has gone. With automatics and the PCM telling it when to shift VS you deciding the power YOU want they can get mileage and emissions. I was reading an article last year I think and the fellow writing it was looking for an F-150 stick. Seems that the last year you could get a stick in a 1/2 ton anything was about 2012 or so. Try to buy a F-250 with a stick. I love my old 96 Cummings stick. I to taught the wife on my Maverick which was a 4 spd car, then she got a 6cyl camaro 3 on tree. My boy learned on a saturn sedan. Stick shifts are on the way out friends.
