I use to run around outside with no shirt all the time when I was younger. Now I battle skin cancer on my face and arms, so shoot I wear them arm sleeve things now if not a long sleeve shirt if out in sun much. I don't think about it much till the Doc makes me do the treatment thing for it. Sucks sometimes. I keep trying to figure out how a guy that worked outside most of his military career on grave shift get skin cancer. :confused24: Beats me. Oh well it don't keep me from doin what I like.

Season tire number 5 - going with Balancing Beads this time!!
djh3 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Puc, I have run nothing but balance beads since 08. I have yet to have any of the tires/beads give me any shake. I have used them on the 07 Vulcan 900, the 09 RSV and currently on the Victory Cross Country. The only thing I have noticed is on the Vic occasionally when slowing down and @ say 15 mph no brake applied and one hand I may feel a front end sort of wobble thing. Nothing like I feel like I'm gonna crash, just that sort of wobble. I just throw another hand up and its about time to brake anyways. -
Yamaha Accessories for the new Venture - total list..
djh3 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Shoot the bag that goes on there probably weighs 4 lb. -
With my handy dandy "keyless ignition by-pass relay harness" I make a plug and play by pass set up. Have you tried cleaning the switch contacts by taking the switch apart. Yamaha for some reason decided to run all the initial power when you flip the key up thru the switch. All that amperage burns the contacts in switch. Usually you can get away with cleaning and dressing the contacts and installing just my relay and be problem free for years. If your convinced you want the keyless set up I can make those. Both systems are a plug and play set up. PM me here if you are interested.

Yea to bad there is not a way to lay glass in there and make it bond. Is there not a way to use MEK or something like that to sort of soften the ABS and lay resin cloth in?

My Victory Cross Country had a cable on one side. When I added the rack I felt it added enough weight once over center it needed another cable. So I made one with a couple eyes for wiring and some 12ga wire. Just don't like the idea of the hinge being the stop.

My educated guess (ok somewhat educated) would point to something drive train. If it were a water pump, I think it would make it in gear or neutral at a specific RPM. My thoughts are the water pump don't know if its in gear or not. RPM it may know, but I forget how the pump is driven. Off the cams?

Hmm That's interesting. Must have been fatigued cracked and just fell out. Next question is how you gonna fix it?

06 royal star venture
djh3 replied to Cowboy270674's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Picture friend. Surely you don't think your the first one to break off something on one of these things. -
Glad your OK. Hope they don't total out your scoot. Different insurance companies have different limits I think. Around 60% cost of replacement and they write it off. Probably been 5 years now. I was coming home from Daytona after speedweeks south on I 95. Around Coco area there was construction and had lanes down to 2. Well 2 big rigs were jamming up both lanes and had a bunch of us backed up 3 or so behind both. When there would almost be enough room to get between them this car hauler would speed up and close in gap. Jerk So once construction are was done cars spread out and then I heard that sound I was about 3 car lengths back and decided I'm gonna give myself a bit more and move over a lane. Then I heard a loud "swhoosh and pow" Recap and tire pieces going everywhere. I waved at the guy and gave him a salutation.

Having fun with the new Venture at the Sturgis Rally..
djh3 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Well shoot, I figured if ole Puc was involved and it said "having fun" it would include some dirt ridin. I'm sorely disappointed. -
HMM what a mess. So I never used the CB but once or twice with little to no success. How often do you need the CB. Does the passenger need to talk on it? What about going wireless and just make an adapter to plug into the 5 pin with like a hand mike and a portable speaker. Hell just get the phone number for the Tail gunner and call him. Your phone does make calls right? Or connect his headset to yours, that's kind of the idea of them aint it?

Sena SC-A0122 Cable Bike to Sena SM10 dongle
djh3 replied to Robby's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I got a handfull of the 5 pin connectors here. Pretty sure I can build one for less than $30. So if I get this rite you plug this into the bike and then your headset? What if you had an adapter to plug into the 5 pin and then use a Bluetooth transmitter to connect to headset. -
I do like my shorty helmets. For some of the reasons you mention. I had a Simpson pit road shorty first, I like the fit and adjustable straps with quick disconnects. Very short visor though and no face shield. Then I ran across the EXO 100 and liked the idea of a face shield if I get caught in rain. I went to a couple dealers and tried on a few helmets before deciding on my Bell Mag 8 when I got it. I took the wife a couple times for the same reason. Everybody's head is shaped a bit different. My Mag 8 fit well with just a small dent required in the very front that would cause a hot spot. We happened to be going thru Daytona @ bike week in Oct and stopped in @ J&P. Mag 9 in red were on sale for $99 so we tried them on. Good fit and so far I have not had to adjust it for pinch spots. So you could take a ride up there and check out dozens of helmets.

I had an RD 350, man that thing was scary fast then. Expansion chambers and some kind of slider clutch set up. It would wind up pull like crazy to just about the point of pulling the front wheel up and just gooooo. My brother in law had a Kawasaki 250 triple, it would split about even when we raced each other Later on I had a Kawai 650 4cyl a guy I rode with had one of them Suzuki Water Buffalo's

I have the SENA SMH 10. They will music share. So my Victory has an add on Bluetooth cable. And they tell you to have music for both people from the bike you need 2 of these $130 ea donlges. I bought the necessary parts and 1 dongle. So I just music share from one headset to the other. I don't know anything about your headsets and if it will share like that. So on the J&M rig, whats their return policy? The audio wiring on the previous gen Goldwings is the same as the RSV. I cant see any reason it wouldn't work.

+1 on Jafrum and also Scorpion EXO 100. But it looks like they updated it. I put an amber visor on mine as I figured I would have sunglasses on unless it was raining, then amber would be a good overcast shield. Any of the low riding thin straps jobs if they make DOT standards probably barley make it and offer little protection. But half are not known for that anyways. I like my half and use it a lot around town. On trips I use a Bell Mag 9 with my SENA, wife has the same.

Don't remember if it was the 500 or 750. But they were a death trap with front end wobble. I think it was the early 750's

Yea I would rather work with him. He has helped me out more than once. I was in a jam this week and had to order elsewhere to get me thru. -
I agree diesel is not the"cheap" engine to operate it once was. Yea with the regen cat thing you got to get them out on the road and drive to burn out the crap. occasionally. Big hit on cost of diesel PU is initial cost to buy. I would probably go back 2 yr from current model to even look at one. Shoot I aint even sure if I need a 3/4 ton truck until I get something sorted out on what we want to do for living area or area. We have talked about full timing, which would probably require a 1 ton, and we have gone the just find a place in an area we like. Say NC Tn area. It changes day to day. LOL

Ok technically its called a nissan Titan XD
-
Dont plan to buy one tomorrow or anything. Just doing research for possible future purchase. I currently am very happy with my paid for 96 Cummins. But anybody heard or read anything on this new Nissan XD with the new Cummins V-8? I would consider a Ford F-250 but that dang Ford diesel is so fickle trying to figure out which one had good head bolts, but oh wait it had crappy oil cooler and clogged up. And any of the GM duramax want dura money.

Argh they are a PIA. They dig up the yard, if you store cat food say in they garage they can ge in there and make a mess. WE use to feed yard cats in Oklahoma on a porch. Them things would tip over food or steal it. So I have shot my fair share of them. 22 Mag hollow points. Got me few possums too.

Yea I emailed him yesterday. He said he now takes the site down, because folks just cant read and comprehend. He posts closed from xxx until xxx. Orders will not be processed. And idiots still order stuff and then give him a migraine because it aint shipped and they dont have the part in a week or so. Somehow its his fault they dont read. Did you try Digikey? How about your little odd part place down the road?
