I am looking towards an LED headlight assy for the Victory. There are a few aftermarket jobs available that fall in my budget. I have allways thought that more watts means more light. Now looking at some of these lights I dunno how they get rated. The Lumins of them are all rite around like 3450 high beam 2800 low. But the watts run from 60w high to 40w high and 40w low down to 28. So what (lol) gives. Is lumins lumins and it dont matter how many watts anymore? OR do I stay with the old school more is better?

The heavy slow speed can be overcome some with a 130/90 front tire. The rear shocks do fail, but thats such a hit and miss deal. I have read where some guys get over 100k with no problem, and an acquaintance on another board had to put 3 in by 60k. A member here is working on a repair for them so that may present a less expensive option. If not a Hagon shock can be had for less than $50 Fuel pumps are a shot in the dark also. Easy fix as has been mentioned. I did a write up on a replacement pump and hardware work around for around $50 and never worry about it again. The ignition switch has been known to get burned contacts because Yamaha designed all the power to go tru the switch. So it archs the small contacts inside the switch. But I make a by pass relay thats plug and play to sort of reroute the power thru a relay made to handle the amps. Overall they seem to be a reliable bike. Many members have 80-100k on them and still counting. The clutch whine mentioned can be repaired by changing out the clutch basket. I think a member here can get you the required parts at a reduced rate.

Mine says on cover 1996-2000. Shows pic of 2nd gen. I can open it up and see inside if your interested.

Watch for some meet and eats this fall and winter. Currently Blue Beard and I have been kicking around a place up by the Villiages Yalhala bakery or something like that.

Sooo no ventilation at all thru the lowers???? Hole Saw baby.
-
I think the lowers have something to do with the heat. I finally talked myself into taking mine off on the XCT for the summer. Man what a difference. But if these are like the 2nd Gen there is equipment in them things and they might be hard to ditch.

Yet one more Bluetooth question.
djh3 replied to RDawson's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My radio on my Victory reception has gotten progressively worse in my opinion. I have a "dead spot" up by the traffic light at main road. Funny thing is my truck goes blank there also, but wifes car is fine. I'm thinking I need to OHM out the antenna and see if the cable is good. I put a signal booster on it a year or so back. -
Yup Flyinfool cant reach ya here no matter how hard he try's.

Yet one more Bluetooth question.

Hum and buzz with engine on can be ignition interference. Could be the placement of intercom wiring. Sometimes if you pull the cables under the fairing apart and clean with contact cleaner and then apply some dielectric grease to them it will get ride of most of that. -

What model Garmin? I have a 756t and I'm pretty sure it is stereo output. I had mine wired similarly minus the BT. Had garmin wired into splitter and phone with Pandora plugged into the other side. Using the wired headsets and it worked great. -
GOOD JOB MOM YAM!! Now THIS is how to compete with HD IMHO!!
djh3 replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Well Puc from what I have seen on the TV of the flat track races, it's gonna be dang hard to beat Indian. They made the HD guys look bad this year. But I can only imagine they threw tons of cash at it also to run up front. -
Fuel flow question
djh3 replied to SpencerPJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Check the The tank is vented thru a small hose that connects up by the cap. After a ride if you stop and open the tank do you hear a "swoosh" kind of sound? You will have to take the surround off the tank there and find the vent hose. Blow some air thru it and make sure its clear. Otherwise it is vacuum locked. Just like a bottle if you turn it upside down it will flow for a bit, then it has to get some air in. -
Yup I'm with you. We were without power from when it hit us about 9pm Sun nite until Thursday around 7pm. Cable and internet came up at same time, but crashed about 11pm that nite. Finally got internet back Sun following Hurricane. Wife and I spent 2 days or so cleaning up our place, then went over to a friends house who does mission work and was out of town and worked a couple days working on his place. Because the college I work at was used as a shelter and also a distribution point for supplies we were closed until Wednesday.

I go with electrical whine. I had the issue pretty good. I went behind the fairing and cleaned the connectors for the radio and intercom where they all come together on the right hand side by the back of the fairing. I think I also may have checked the routing to make sure wires were not running by ignition wires. If you have the clutch whine it will be there all the time

OK first place I would go look is the policy it's self. See if there is charges on there for PIP. If so Call one of the Biker Lawers here in Fla. Fran Hasch comes to mind. If they charge you for a service/protection they dang sure should hold to it.

Demo ride impression 2018 Star Venture
djh3 replied to cimmer's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I might consider an Indian Chieftain Limited. I dont care for the full fend pant and frilly things a lot of the Indians have. Just priced one out on the web and would be just over 26,000 with a heated tour seat and passenger floorboards. I would still have to find a luggage rack or trunk. I dont see the Victory leaving my garage either. I seriously think if I was to change bikes I would just be a lemming and go with a Goldwing. LOL Hoping to find a demo ride sometime this winter here in Fla I can make. Biketoberfest if probably out as those things are booked up weeks in advance. -
If you use those guillotine connectors, you deserve all the trouble they give you with loose and bad connections. Shorts etc. Sorry I have a bad opinion of those dang things. With a little thought and some friends we can source out the correct connectors to DO IT RITE.

While I'm not a darkside proponent, I'm thinking this could be a good candidate, at least for the first time around. I hate propitiatory stuff.

Yea Ricks is a bit more than that, like $80.

Power and interweb back tonight about 7pm. About 94-96 hours from when it started to go out. Around 7 or 8 winds really were whipping. By 9pm DARK. Had small 2500w gen trying to run 2 fridge and a stand up freezer. after the second day I figured it was going to be awhile so I better investigate the 4400 w job I have not run for 10yr or so. 4 hours later carb off and in several dozen pieces, cleaned made gaskets and like magic it worked. Well sort of. Seemed every tank of gas when it ran out I had to fiddle with carb to get to run right. I had to make a tank for it as the OEM was steel, and you can imagine what i looked like after 10yr of non-use. It would run for 2.5 to 3 hours on a tank. I would run 2 then shut it off for a few hours. Everything stayed cold far as I could tell. Ribs are still frozen in freezer anyways along with everything else.

Not so much here. Cat 3 or 4 Hurricane coming thru. Maybe next week or two.

Best case senerio is, a bunch of houses get tor up around me and not mine. We can finish fixing up ours sell and move to Johnson City or up that way.
-
Well good as we are going to be. Dang storm looks to puttin a bulls eye on my house. Last report 6pm Sunday was coming right up US 27. Not so good for me. But good part is they say its weaking. Didnt board up anything, partial because by Tue if you were not living at the Home depot when a truck came in you were not getting any lumber. Hoping for the best here. I'm sure it will be a freaking mess when done.
-
Boy this storm changes direction as much as a pair of Mexican Jumping beans. It's forecasted path now (as of 8pm Sat) is up by Naples/Ft Myers area and pretty much up the left coast of Fla. Which for me is better I hope. They did have it just about centered over my house. Now expecting winds speeds of 110+ for like 4 hours our something. May have no power for 2 or 3 days.
