Where is it at ?
djh3 replied to Yamman's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Like any first year vehicle although it may be neat to have one of the first off the line. As mentioned they are still fine tuning some issues. I dont think I would ant to deal with those headaches. -
Leaving HD need some help.

I would also say take a look at the 05-09 RSTD Same as Venture but sans fairing. Should be a bit lighter. With todays bluetooth stuff you can certainly have tunes and comms if you want them with say a SENA. I still swear I could pack more stuff for the 2 of us on our 07 Vulcan 900 with luggage rack and tour bag than on any hard bagger with trunk we have had since. Funny since the Yankee's have come back down I have seen 2 of these triked out. Look weird compared to the Goldwing versions I typically see. -
So did you measure all the clearances? Then the ones that are out of spec measure the shims and see if you can make something work out. The same shims are used in several bikes from Hondas to Triumphs, yamaha suzuki

Don (Freebird) did just that last year I think. So hopefully he will jump in here and be able to give you some thoughts. I went from the RSV to a Victory Cross Country. Mostly because for me it was top heavy and im inseam challenged and didnt feel I had enough control at slow speeds and stopping. -
I didnt have a Venture back then. I had a Suzuki GS 1100 forget year. A group of us from my base rode up to OKC for a run back then they called "the candy ass". It was 7 when we left Altus, not much warmer when we got to OKC.

Yours worked fine. I dunno why that one did that. I linked several more in days past and all worked fine. Probably the Russians

What the heck is vegelink?

I think those motors were pretty much based off the 750 they ran for years. Electrical quick guess would be a RR or stator. I would think probably tires/tubes. Why does he think it needs a clutch @ 26k May take some time but I think those bikes were still pretty straight forward.

OOPS I opened my mouth and didnt check the model. First gens dont have as much problems with the fuel pump. Also is the a tank vent? MA61amech has mentioned many times on the secnd gens to check the tank vent. Is there one on the 1st gen? -
For what it's worth my thinking on looking at a used touring machine I kind of expect a couple things, or at least look for them. Cup holder for driver, decent seat if the OEM is known to be uncomfortable, drivers backrest is a plus. Highway pegs are a plus. Anything else is "nice" say a luggage rack. Here in Fla it may actually be easier to sell at this time of year because it is cooler to ride. Price is I guess whatever you can get. NADA says around $5500 By the same tokin it says my 2013 Victory Cross country Tour is around 9 k low and 12 k high. They are going more in the 8-10 range. Good luck. And I would go with the GT, just better looks and performance in my book. I had an 90 with the 5.0 5 spd convertible. Got about 25-28 mpg on the highway I think. Better than my PT Cruiser turbo we had at the time.

Glacier National Park? Is it worth it to get a passport?
djh3 replied to Chaharly's topic in Watering Hole
Depends on if you plan on some more out of the country trips in next few years. Passport is around $130 from what I just looked up. If you plan on say a cruise or maybe another trip up thru Canada in a year or so I'd say yea go for it. I still have a current passport but have not used it in several years. -
OK I have no idea why it is messing that up. Summit Racing.com and it is called braided line cover or something like that. Makes regular rubber lines look like aeroquip stainless steel

OK I have no freakin Idea how that happened. Check the Summit Racing site. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mrg-8090

Sorry about your loss also. WE just laid our "pup" to rest today. He was diagnosed with lynphoma type cancer 3 weeks ago and made 2 treatments before it was just to much for him. Wife is really busted up. It will take time.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mrg-8090I throw the wire ones as far ass I can, hoping they make the trash can. But if it is something that is exposed and you want to look nice or sporty try this.

Fuel pump. Mine acted very similar. Would run down road fine one day. Then another day you could be crusin and bike would stutter then just bog out. Sit a few minutes (almost like had to cool off or something) then start and run fine. If you choked it some and it had enough gas in tank it would "free flow" enough to sort of run. Could be an ignition switch I suppose that looses contact. But usually once they make contact and bike runs, it runs they dont cut out. -
Hmmm Jackson Dairy trip maybe? OK so now I see they cal it The Parlour of Jackson

I think this is the place. Yalaha bakery. I had thought maybe meet at Disney Springs or something. The wife and I took a ride up there a week or so back. OMG the amount of people was overload. Maybe the holiday thing. But put our name on a list they told us about 30 min. Not bad considering how busy every place else was. Come to find out that was 30 min wait to get in line to waint for a table. We decided to bug out and went to Cracker Barrel 10 min down the road and on the way home.

I have been thinking about trying to put one together. But then I have home repairs and up dates going on that seemed to kill every weekend since Sept. Then holidays and so on. But we should think about maybe 3rd week in Jan or so. Bluebeard had mentioned a little place up by Leesburg. Theres a place over by Lake Wales called Cherry Pockets. Its a bit tough to find, kind of bar food place. Steve may remember a couple other places we have been. One was down by Okechobee, Lightsys I think. I have been to a decent Mexican place over in Arcadia El Pirata. So we will throw it out there and see if we can come up with a day that works.

I have used Pandora for a few years now. Since like 2007. Back then I had unlimited data with Sprint, so dont know about data rates. Then a couple years back we switched to Verizon and only had like 3gb between both of us. SOMEONE dont pay good attention to how much facebook or other stuff like that she is doing not on a wifi. So past couple years on our trips I have just used the Ipod. I use the free version and I dont think the commercials are less than regular radio.

If no marina or other place to get non-ethanol fuel in your area, go to the local airport and ask for some 110 low lead. Most will always sell you 5 gal or so of "can gas". If they ask tell them its for racing or some other "off road" use. Its pricey but your not going to fill up the truck.

Some have a bad howl from the clutch basket. I have only run across one of those, and I suspect it was because earlier in its life it pulled a trailer. Fuel pumps die, but are an easy fix. Ignition switches will arch out, but there is a fix for those. I too have only heard of a couple catastrophic failures. One hydro-lock, one a fellow had spun the bearings on the crank. I think he ran the wrong kind of oil or something.

Had a back up thing for awhile. I think got it off Amazon or something. Have not used it in maybe 2yr. My old Galaxy S2 and whatever I had after that were no picky about power supplies. My newer S7 dont like the power plug on the bike that worked great with the other phones. I think same thing happened with the portable power. My phone or the wifes at the time LG phone didnt like it much, always gave the "use approved XXX power supply" for best results.

Same reason Victory closed its doors, HD sales are slipping and MC sales in general are hurting. We (the old core riders) are not riding like we use to. Some are getting out of it, dont feel safe riding or medical issues cause them to think twice.

Dont know much about the Strats clutch. But many with RSV have had some troubles bleeding them out. Best suggestion I have heard that works decently is to fill reservoir, tie the clutch handle down and open bleeder with a bottle attached to catch fluid. Leave it over night and proceed with a normal bleed.
