First Oil Change on my 2018 Venture TC
djh3 replied to Tealw1's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Yea when I talked to the rep last week he was telling me, the semi-dry sump set up is one way they got the weight down low and narrowed up the stance. Seems they always can make a simple job harder than it needs to be. -
What brand/kind of oil has been run in it? Dont know much about the v-star 1100, is the clutch hyd or cable? I would think if its getting stuck, there has to be something causing it besides the oil. Oil could be part of issue, but release springs or something else could be weak. Sea Foam can be run for a short time in a crankcase and may loosen up some crud if it is messing things up. To long and you could wash out the bearing I would suspect. Read the label. Maybe snap the clutch a few times with bike in neutral to see if it will break loose. My suspicion is though there is something else at play and the oil is just the part that makes it increase.

Well Puc I looked up a couple specs that will help maybe. The stroke on the Gen 2 is 66mm (2.59") , the "new" Venture is 112mm (4.40"). Almost a 2 inch difference so no way its going to spool up like a short stroke motor. I will say I finaly got to ride the eluder Wed @ Daytona. I started in "sport" mode and found it to have "jerky" throttle response for me. Probably more to do with getting use to fly by wire and the way it felt lower geared. I figured how to adapt to it so not as jerky. Later I flipped over to the "tour" mode and it felt very much like my Victory acts, comfortable to me so rode that way for awhile. Over all I liked the bike.

No on the 05-09 TD are not AS prone to the issue. Basicly because the RSV has more electrical draw due to radio, cruise etc. Best the folks I worked with could figure the carb heat and lights are the biggest initial draw on switch. It cant hurt to put the relay in as it was not a good idea to run all that power across the switch contacts.

40k would be a good marker. I did mine @ 27500 and only like 2 or 3 were slightly out of spec. I went ahead and reset all to minimums as I had shims available. They tend to get tighter as the valve is being "pulled" into the head. Owners manual says 26k, 30k with no adjustment or very little is common. It is a big job in my book, only because of all the prep work. Lower fairings (leg) have to come off, drain coolant, fuel tank off, and valve covers. The actual job its self is not bad. But like carpentry work measure twice before I ever moved a shim. Also if doing yourself have a pair of calipers or a mic handy to verify shim thickness. They are supposed to have the thickness printed on them but sometimes its not very readable.

Dave aka Blue Beard. Thanks for the invite to go up to Daytona with ya for the couple days. First time I got to spend much time just loafin around there. Youll have to post a pic or 2 of your buddies HD. That much chrome to polish should be illegal. I was glad we got to ride the New Venture/eluder bikes. I hope you enjoyed the ride up and back. He even has a matching helmet already. So your saving money to start. LOL

Ever seen a Harley Fat Boy (and girl) on an indian? Blue Beard and I were wonderin what the heck they rode in on. They both struggled to get a leg over, and when they did I think the poor suspension was bottomed. Shortly after took the pic they were walking away and the demo guy repositioned the bike in line. Me thinks they didnt get to test ride it. I think he needs one of them Boss Hog things.

Sorry to say the earlier Royal Stars are NOT the same as the 99-2013 RSV and 05-09 TD. But if it is only a 2 wire switch it should not me to hard to figure out a work around. How many keys do you have on your bike key ring? Yes the second Gen stuff does have a arch problem in the switch due to amperage. The earlier stuff most guys I have talked with that have issues it ends up being a tumbler issue internal, whether engine heat causes corrosion or something melts or the internals gum up.

no idea whats wrong, PLEASE HELP!!!

Snag a crayon somwhere, maybe a restraunt that has kids meals. Then whenyou crank bike and it runs touch it to pipe. If it melts that cyl is firing, no mess no spark/fire. -
Keeping the carbs sync'd up helped mine a ton. Best I got was 42-45ish on a long slab run mostly at or under 70. Most times I was in the 32-36 mpg. So easy math was 180 miles gas light was usually on. My 13 Victory is usually in the 35 range on the short trip back and forth to work and 40 highway. My RSV I had put the HD mufflers on and mileage dropped a little. I suspect that had to do with the twisting of the handle more than anything.

WOW Spring time in Oklahoma. Lived there 20yr, think I only had a car 2 or 3yr out of that time that didnt have hail damage. Most times dime to maybe quarter size.

Added Power steering to the bike!
djh3 replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I ran the 130 for 15k and never felt like it was unstable. When I did have to change tires I went back to the 150 up front, and dang near crashed the bike on the first couple traffic circles leaving my subdivision. Man that thing felt like it had 90w in the steering head. The shock oil I went up one weight from OEM and it would let me go down a couple pounds on the fork air pressure and not bottom out. Its a pretty simple job on the RSV. Not so much as I read up on the Victory. -
New tire arrived what next?
djh3 replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Balance beads for me are the way to go. As far as changing, if you were closer we could knock it out on a Sunday. Saturday I plan on riding. Sunday this week says rain. -
New Venture Pricing
djh3 replied to Rhys's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Far as I know Money is green and spends all day everywhere. You can always offer. But being it is the new kid on the block, prices will probably @ MSRP for a year or so. Wait until SepT or so. Maybe prices will drop a little or you can scoop up a left over model. -
I had a D404 on a lighter weight bike. A Vulcan 900 and did not care for the milage it gave. On the RSV the Michelin tire was the best wearing, the Shinko was best priced. I liked both.

I have had a couple extended warranties on used vehicles. Over all probably not the best money spent. But at the time they were the primary ride for the boss. We had a couple year old Dodge Caravan. Supposed to be a bumper to bumper warranty. The AC quit. No problem take to dealer. Couple hundred bucks to fix. Hmm really what happened to the bumper to bumper thing. Oh well its XYZ relay and those electrical parts are not covered. Really!! Due to our relationship with the dealer we had previously they fixed it. But over all I think you put the $100 a month away and cover your own possible expenses. The 5.4 motors are pretty bullit proof after like 05 or when they went away from the 3 valve motor. They are the ones that had the bugger plugs. They do have a variable cam timing piece that can go bad. The thing will knock like a rod but it still runs, just MPG goes wonky. Not terrible to fix, but if done by a shop can run probably $1000. Almost bought a 2005 Navigator with that problem for cheap.

Some elevations I have to imagine it can be chilly. BRP has a site you can check on road conditions and I think temps.

Not happy with the Can-Am? Or just wanted to go a different way? I think they are pretty cool machines. I have seen some down this way with some nice LED accent lights under things like the front splitter and belly pan look pretty awsome going down the road. I know some places the LEO's get upset about that stuff. You just need to know what you can get away with I reckon. Enjoy.

I thought the windshields was electric and adjustable? Maybe thats only the top dog model. However I like yours, sharp paint I have not seen before. Like the stripes.

Heres a back up plan. http://www.stenbergs.us/img/toilets/porta-potty.png

I have the SMH 10. I would think they are similar. You may have to double check the bike manual also for some direction. MY Victory has a SENA BT transmitter. Sometimes it takes my a couple trys to get my headsets to connect to it. If you can stay away from corded headsets its why you went BT aint it.

Some places the belts on the Vic XCT are $500. May be such a thing as there is a cross over from another bike too. At 255x16 I can see a bunch of folks going CT on this thing.
