  1. Puc, I was thinking the same thing on the chargin side of the house. By-pass relay only helps the ignition switch. Usually (and I insert a "your experiences may vary") if the switch is at issue it is a matter of josseling the switch to make contact and then it starts or you get lights or what have you. there are small contacts in the switch that get corroded or pitted and just dont make good contact. Worse case scenario I have seen or heard of with a switch the thing would literally cut out on like freeway expansion joins then maybe a couple more of them frost heaves and like magic it fires off again. So my vote goes with voltage regulator or stator. More towards the charging side of things. Does engine rev up or down? If you rev engine does it effect brightness?
  2. It was the bike I got back on after a hiatus of 15yr or something. I liked the looks and mine was an 07 so one of the first years after they redesigned it. No major problems other than stator went out around 25k or so. I put 40k on the bike before traded for the RSV. It went from Fla to NC twice 2 up with gear, 2 or 3 solo trips from Fla to Cincinnati Ohio and all over fla. Best mpg was 52 average was mid to high 40's say 46-48. I bought a classic and had large soft bags, mustang seat (you WILL have to get a better seat) and first a memphis shades windshield and later I mounted a bat wing fairing. Rotella t-6 or mobil 1 a couple tires and I put an over drive pulley on the engine to lower highway rpms. Over all a good experience I would say.
  3. Dont step on the curb by the guard shack going into Canada. The gal we had spoke so softly I could hardly hear her, so I stepped up to the window at the shack and on the curb. She didnt like that one bit. I took 3 of us close to an hour to get across and we all were going the same place for the same reason.
  4. Yea but you cant get any of them cool t-shirts, boots, chain drive wallets and stuff with Yamaha on them. And on their install stuff if they got to pull the seat to run CB wires etc and charge me for time, then turn around and charge me time to install a heated seat, I'm gonna beat someone to a pulp. Have to pull the seat anyways so why you scamming me?? The Motor Co's cost of oil changes is well known. Shoot you got engine oil and separate oil for transmission.
  5. Hey guys and gals. I was checking out some videos the other night. Probably got sucked in by one of Puc's or something. Then on the side you see another that looks cool and next thing you know your sucked in rite? Well I ran across this fellow He is a fellow that quit a corporate job to make a charity ride across america for awareness for our veterans and some programs. Please check out some of his videos. The one linked is kind of a promo, so check out some newer ones also. If you like the mission please subscribe and like and share with others. Somehow he gets paid a little something and it helps him. He has a vision to build a campground for biker community and with a special section for veterans and veterans with disabilities. I already sent him an e-mail telling him if he needs help building some cabins I will give him a hand. So please visit the you tube page and he also has a site. Lets help the guy out if your so inclined. He has some pretty cool videos of places and things he has been able to do while living off his motorcycle for like 3 years.
  6. Well if I was worried about parts availability for "dead" brands I would have bailed last year when Victory announced they were closing up. I did test ride the new Eluder and liked it. If I was to get another bike I really dont know what the heck I would go with. I'm thinking a GW. But the Victory handling wise for me was a vast improvement.
  7. AGM for a bike or 4x4 is going to be way to go. I have some I stay away from as I personally have had crap luck with. Exide and interstate But they are the largest so heck I may be getting a rewrapped exide and not know it.
  8. Try some chrome polish, or never dull if it just looks bad. Most of them covers were polished alum and then some kind of clear coat that eventualy peeled.
  9. Had a good ride today. Met up with Bluebeard and Pat, Steve and Marilyn and my other half. Good food and my wife says really good baked deserts. LOL I have an idea I'm bouncing around and see if I can make it work.
  10. Yea no problem. We saw that a bunch in IOWA and Kansas a few years back when I was traveling for work. They had a bunch of pumps going to the E85 stuff. I have read a few places that lobbyist are pushing to go to 15% added corn. That will cause most of us with older "non-flex" vehicles to sell trade or possibly have engine issues as the ecm will not adjust to that crap. Same with my 13 Victory, it specifically says no more than 10%. Now a carb you can rejet and make it to run on it. I never paid much attention to how up to date those listing were. Shoot 5yr old most of them places could be out of business. If you have an oil distribution outfit that supplies fuel to stations sometimes they have fuel available there and it is corn free.
  11. I'm only as good as the information I can find. No responsibility for accuracy. It's up to the web site to keep it up. Go by your local small airport and get some av-gas 110 low lead. Its all gas all the time or a marina. Down here we have WaWa and they offer unmolested gas @ 91 octane usually. If you go to the airport you will have to ask for "can gas". My local here had a minimum of 10 gal, which was OK as I was running it in a race car.
  12. I am saying 400. Our usual Fall trip we run almost 500 Interstate miles the first day and a couple hundred the second on back-roads. I have made over 800 in a 12 hour day. (unfortunately not enough to get an IB) So it really depends on what your trying to do I suppose. More stops, less miles

  14. So Steve do you do the ride from the dealer in Jax? Or just go looky?
  15. Had a young troop that worked with me that bought one of them Honda CBX 6 cyl jobs when they came out. OMG I thought a 4cyl was wide! He could wheelie that thing for a half mile I think. The KZ 1300 was no slouch either.
  16. WEll from my Scouting days I remembered some things. So one year a co-worker and I had to go to a school in Charleston SC. We were in Oklahoma, and he had never been east of like Arkansas. He was up for the motor cycle journey, so we took my GS 1100 and trailer and camp gear. Coming home we stopped in Talladega Alabama for the races. Weather was a bit dreary to say the least. WE pitched camp and picked what we thought was high enough grounds and it had a slope to boot. For the water run off would it be needed. That scouting thing there. It rained so long and hard in middle of night we had water running thru the tent. When we got up in the am everything inside tent was soaked. Forecast was crap so we loaded up and hit road. Days end we got a motel and had stuff strung all around the room drying out. I did camp after that but not long after the wife and I up graded to a pop to pull behind the car.
  17. If your planning on making it give us a heads up so we can kind of plan seating. As of now the only ones I know of is Blue Beard & Pat, Steve and Marilyn ? And Myself and Lee Ann. 6 total.
  18. Man if I was off work a week or so earlier I would make that trip. I think his deal is the 9th or something. I have classes until 15th I have to teach.
  19. Dang Steve just saw what time you posted. You workin graves? Or get up that early for work? LOL
  20. Sorry folks, for some reason this didnt get kicked to top for me. Yes we are still on. Blue beard and Pat are heading up Sat I think he said. We will come up Sunday. Other than you all Steve we have not heard a peep. FYI Leesburg is next weekend if anyone is looking in here.
  21. I got tired of taking the light bar off all the time to split the fairing. I got some alum tubing and some slightly longer 6mm (I think) bolts. I think I made the spacers 1/4" longer.
  22. We got plenty of Pythons to skin down this way for sure. They should be payin a bounty fer them varmits
  23. I dunno for sure but I think Yamaha also is running an oil cooler on these things. Victory went the oil cooler route and HD has on some models. I get they dont want to "spoil the looks" of the traditional V-twin. But heck if you got to add a radiator to cool it, what harm would an oil cooler be. I have seen on aircraft engines the plumbing used as an oil cooler. The lines actually have like fins on them to dissipate the heat.
  24. Glad you figured it out. Most brake light switches are mechanically activated. Some the pedal engages the switch and some have a linkage that pulls the switch to on. I have seen a couple on cars that were in line and pressure activated. Another reason you need to be a little mechanically inclined to ride. No guaranty the mechanic doing the work was 100% although thats what we are paying for.
  25. Sorry to hear this. But it sounds like you all got it worked out.
