  1. I have run Shinko, Michelin and Continentals.
  2. Email Kisan. They are probably one of the bigger makers. Chances are Yamaha didnt go crazy and build a new electrical system for your bike. They more than likely used existing knowledge from recent bikes. So one from say a Tennera may fit. As far as using one Yes. I have had one on every bike since 2007. On my RSV I had it and currently on my Victory I run a LED on low beam and the modulator on a halogen bulb on the high side. The bike also has a brake light modulator. Anything to attract attention.
  3. Yup. He has built me a couple things. Light bar for my Victory and one for the RSV.
  4. I use balance beads. They say to "pour them" in thru the valve stem, but that takes forever and then some. I mount tire, then break bead on one side if it dosent look like it will seat easily and pour them in. Been using them since 2008
  5. I have been using Cycle terminals for years to make the plug and play ignition relay kits for the 2nd gen here. While you were making your harness you probably should have added in a relay to not run all the amps thru the switch. I also have made a "keyless" rig for those that wanted a by pass so if the switch did die on them. Those little bitty wires for the 3 wire plug are small. So depending on how your tapping in on them, be careful.
  6. Wish I could have got a call to help. Only a few miles from Daytona.
  7. Had good luck with Shinkos. On my RSV the 2 best tires were Michelin for long milage and Shinko for good price vs wear and service. The Michelin would go about 12-15k and the Shinko about 4-6k
  8. I have thought about going to a BMW. But being a bit vertically challenged, not sure I could touch ground well. Which is part of the reason I went to the Cross Country vs the RSV. So round figures what does one go for? How is storage? Bags dont look real big. I would have went for a Vision, but you cant hardly fit a six pack in the bags.
  9. Probably was the AIS system. Many disabled and plugged the lines.
  10. Yea I dont think electric bike for touring is for me. MAybe around town and trails here in Palm Coast. Probably have to do this.
  11. Agree the price of a touring bike could be a stalling point. I know for us it is a consideration for sure. Also the generation that would be coming of age to buy a bike to travel on are not interested in motorcycles.
  12. We loved the RSV. But the top heavy-ness worried me. Ride and performance was very good. The V3 Venture, well all I ever did was a test ride around Daytona Speedway roads. It seemed OK and I liked it had selectable "performance" modes. But was disappointed it wasnt water cooled. I had rode Victory's at several test ride days and liked the handling and performance. I liked the angular looks, kind of like the V3, definatly dont get confused with "the other American motorcycle". Would I buy an Indian? For me its a hard sell. Polaris pulled the rug out from under us Victory folks once, and you cant fault us for being a bit gun shy of them a second time around. As for going with the crowd. Not likely. I raced Dodges when everybody else ran a Bow Tie. Drag racing kind of same thing I worked with a guy on a car and we ran big ol Mopars with big blocks. LOL
  13. Any cooling system or battery needs to be serviced with demineriazed water. For the very reason mentioned. Tap water even filtered has minerals in it and cause issues.
  14. Found it here.
  15. Have you looked at some of the universal types like a Givi I think its called
  16. They would have had to been a very good deal for me. 800 miles would have been over 50 gal of gas so $210 round about and 12 hours drive @ oh say $12 an hour (work cheap for the other half) $144 . I guess you did OK hope it wasnt to bad of a trip.
  17. My take on alot of the chrome add ons I have had in the last 5yr or so is it does not last. I have some foot pegs from Kuryakan and about 2 years in chrome was popping all over. My Victory has arm rests and the chrome in spots has small rust. A luggage rack I bought (knock off HD) about a year in at welds was rusting. On the luggage rack over a year ago I wire brushed it, a little scotch brite work and I forgot what I used to treat rust. Something easy like a baking soda mix. Then Krylon rust prevent primer, and black krylon rust prevent paint then clear poly and looks like it did day I painted it over a year later. So my take is powder coat will serve you better than chrome. You may be best to fabricate something up to make you happy.
  18. In the muffler swap. Yes there is a post on here with a template to make what they called "hockey stick" bracket I think. But even easier was I think 3/4" adel electrical clamps off the back HD muffler bolt hole, a 1/4" 3/4" maybe long bolt. The clamp goes around the saddle bag guard at back and bolts to the HD muffler. You will also need a clamp V -twin manufacture used to have a slightly wider clamp. I personally used a stainless worm clamp, not pretty but worked fine.
  19. The mufflers are an eazy fix pretty much. Finding OEM's might be tough, but HD touring factory jobs are pretty much a bolt on deal. No muss no fuss. The info is around the site here somewhere. The HD OEM take offs go pretty cheap say under $50 pair.
  20. Thanks, Ill put it in my think about list. Dont know what I will do for sleeping for a couple days up there. Id probably jot up Friday and come home Sunday.
  21. Hmmm When I was teaching class the August meet never worked. But with the new job, I may be able to get a kitchen pass for 3 days or so from the wife. Whats dates? Aug 15 thru 20th?
  22. Being this has went on for a couple weeks, guess I'll have to go see if I still have mine. As long as the tool for the second gen works. I'm not sure I still have it so will have to look.
  23. OUCH I see nothing the fellow could have done.
  24. WE downsized a little and moved closer to our Son and Grandkids. You'll know if its right. Things will go smoothly if its supposed to be. Thats what has worked for us.
  25. WE just switched from Verizon to T-Mobile. Our son's family was looking to switch and did the research on price. Where we live Verizon coverage wasnt terrible, but spotty. To use at home had to use wifi to get good signal. T mobile has been OK, but coverage is not absolute everywhere here. Price wise on the military plan it only saves us about 8 bucks over Verizon. But it helps out the kids. He also signed up for T mobiles internet. He lives about 50 miles as crow flys north of us and says his internet is very good. Now if I could only have a choice of internet/TV providers. Looked at the whole stream thing and its no deal anymore. Heck it can run you more.
