  1. See this is where I told you the service manual lacks man. I just looked it up and its sort of vague. Looks as though you have to drain the oil out to even get to it. So I'm with Prarie, I'd maybe put a vacum bleeder on it if you got one. I would try bleeding it out good first. Its cheap and you get to check off one of the troubleshooting boxs before tearing something apart. Make a bleeder bottle out of some clear tubing that will fit the bleeder and run it into the top of an old oil bottle. Put the bottle lower than the bleeder or high enough the flow has to force fluid out and the fluid in the clear tubing will stop air from comming back in. It will let you see if there is any air in the system. Slow and steady.
  2. I personaly have quite a few hours in a C-141 cargo aircraft. I have flown in some lets call it less than admerable conditions. Luckly for me my flight crew were all instructors on the aircraft. Seriously the guys I take my hat off to as an aicraft guy are the Navy pilots landing on a table top that pitching and rolling and winds start, stop cross wind yopu name it. lol Not being a Navy guy they still get my respect.
  3. I'm just messin with ya dude. I read it and forgot about it till I got an e-mail. I try to answer if I have some in put. I never saw the jack question but I'm glad I stopped in here to look around. I have a sears (yellow alum) jack and thats what I'll be using. I havent tried it yet. So I guess I'll be rounding up some scrap lumber.
  4. I just re-read the law notes again today somewhere. I see I was in violation by haveing just a toggle switch. Oh my I wont ever do that again. So pray tell any suggestions as to where to put the "eye". Man I hate to think about drilling holes in the fairing. Looks like in the $70 range plus freight.
  5. I have not installed a modulator on this bike yet. I'm still comptiplating maybe an HID which would rule out the modulator. But I did have one on my 900 I just got rid of. I found one that was suggesteed by a member on the Kawaski boards I used. I got it from JC Whitney it was around $32. But you have to do all your own wiring and it does not have the phot eye thing to turn off automaticly. Part of the reasoning and it sounded perfectly sensable was A; if the phot gizmo goes south it dont work anymore, it defaults to off basicly I think is what was said. B;If you hook it up with a on/off switch it works when you want it to C; if something goes whacko, you bypass to "normal" mode by switching off. I know the law says you cant run it in the dark. Seriously Dick Tracey you want to try and drive with the thing flashing at night? I can tell when its dark and turn it off. Anyways heres a link. Its an option if someone is looking to do it. I'm thinking if I can find the same size connector as the headlight bulb I can build myself a harness, instead of cutting into the wires etc. http://image2.jcwstatics.com/sku/images/small/I_265360_SW_1.jpg I doo like the Signal Dynamic one though. Not as pricey as the Kisan last time I looked. This company also makes the flash unit that goes in the brake light circuit to make them flash. JC carries them too.
  6. Anybody got an easy way to figure out how your lightbar is wired? I just bought mine and it has a light bar on it. I just put the Wagner 1210 bulb in. Thats why my right hand looks like its been in a fight with one of my cats. But anyways only easy thing I could think of was to pull the fuse out of the fuse box, slave ina fuse and a volt/amp meter and see what it draws. Anybody else, without pulling the fairing apart?
  7. Many moons ago I had a Suzuki gs 1000 that was all dressed for touring. It had air forks as well. Also in our club a buddy of mine that worked on base in the hydro shop had a bike with air forks. He built an air hose that coupled the 2 front shocks together with asingle filler port. Worked pretty dand slick. One fill port and it balanced out the two forks pressure wise. Back then nothing had air rears except maybe a goldwing.
  8. OK that sorta makes sense. If you running say I 95 you dont have too many turns to miss getting to NC. Well I dont. But if my buddy and I are running backroads somewhere then just stay in aux so you can hear it. I guess I dont understand why it cant be built into the harness to plug into it instead of plugging into the aux port. Maybe its something to do with the signal wouldnt be loud enough to pla over the headsets if was just feed back thru the add on cables.
  9. OK I got to ask. Has anyone tried differnet HID conversions than the Canadian customs or whatever it was called. I know over on the vn 900 boards guys were using HID kits from e-bay at around $50-60 but you get 2 kits and guys would split them. Here is one I found on e-bay (only single says for bike) I saw one that said it was a hid kit and showed how to wire it up. You pluged you headlight socket into thiers and it went to the ballest and then from ballest to hid light. I didnt see any power wire from battery mentioned. Heres a "car" kit for $33 Then my next question is color. What color do you go with? the 12000 looks cool but one of the ads says best light is 4300 and they aslo suggested 6000 and 8000.
  10. If I can go the 5K I"ll look at running syn, if I have to satay at the 4K for warranty issues I'll probably go Dino till its out.For me the 1000 mile difference will be like an extra oil change a year probably. And at the difference between costs it makes a difference to me. I figured the same with the service mgr, he's just trying to drum up bussiness. I tried to get up in behind the fairing the other night. No go best I could do was unplug the headlight.
  11. I sort of figured after reading about those that have mounted the horn inside the fairing still having enough blast power that mounting where I did should work OK to. I still have the chrome right side horn on there, but you really have to "listen" for it to hear it. I'm pretty happy with it. I think the bracket is easy enough to make even for those that are not real mechanicly inclined. Now the harness. If you havent done that before you might want to get in touch with Carbon One and have him add some wire to make it all the way from battery up to that area, but I'll bet he will make you one up.
  12. Thanks for the use og the reference material. However compaired to the one I have for the kawasaki I just got rid of it stinks. Not ver discriptive on alot of thing. Like I was looking at replaqcing a headlight bulb. It directions wer basicly remove headlamp and replace bulb. Nothing about disasembling the front fairing or how to go about it. I'm thinking a Haynes or Clymer may still be a better bet adding to my library. On a simular note, I read my owners manual say on oil changes @ 4K, service manual says 8K, so I stopped by dealer today gues what service mgr tells me? 3K Yea right I'm gonna plunk out $60 or something for them to change my oil and then I'm going to do it every 3K ? Not on a bet. I see no reason with syn oil why it cant go at least 5K with syn oil.
  13. Ok got 3 measurements for you. First is ctr outside of grip to grip. 33 3/4. Second is from outside edge @ grip. Its from the seam of the turn signal housing to the seam on throttle housing. 24. Third is from the bend, inside edge to inside edge. 13 1/4. These measurements came off my 09.
  14. Yea I struggled getting picture in the post. I could post the full size but holy cow they were big. They are on here under my name I think is how it is anyways. If nothing else when my internet gets back up IKll put a link to pics you can see.
  15. OK while driving back from Lake Placid tonight (no not NY) I got to thinking, if my GPS is on and plugged into the aux does that mean I have to use it for music ? or will I be able to play radio and the GPS interupt or intercom ? On my old bike if aux was connected and on thats what you had to use for music.
  16. Yea me too on the used set of risers.
  17. Well if I can get my @#$!@$ phone to work right I got some pics. I worked most of the day mounting my Stebel in the left lower by your foot. Actually its just about where the OEM horn sits. Its tight but goes in. I made a bracket that uses the bolt for the crash bar and ran the wires up behind the panel and installed the relay in the top of the left lower (behind the airbox). What I would like to do now is come up with a used left lower inner panel, so I trim it up and cover most of the stuff in there ie: cruise control etc and make it a little more sanitary. I went this route because I had a good horn and couldnt afford to spend the $100+ for the chrome goober.
  18. Just wondering, has anyone mounted their stebel or bad boy horns in the left side leg fairing? I looked at the right side where the chrome horn is, but mine came off a previous bike and is not the fancy chrome unit. Dont want to spend the bucks for one either. So I pulled the left lower apart to see if maybe I can shoe horn it in there. Looks like I might have to trim a bit of the black plastic trim piece but we shall see.
  19. I'm trying to educate myself on this deal. Talked some with Buddy RIch in the last few days and he schooled me up on my own GPS. So looking at another thread dealing with the cable it actually has a pic of the cable pre-install laying on a desk. It looks like a Y-cable (I get that because it goes inbetween) but I dont see any additional input to it, for say the mic on the GPS. And on the install thread here you run a seperate cable from the GPS to the Aux port? Why is the 2 GPS cables (mic and output) not just run back thru the headset cable being split?
  20. Yea all things I know and have in my memory banks. lol Other side is if you cant feel comfortable on confident it hard to practice. And on that note I have went some in the back of my neighborhood and rode to get the feel. But as far as learning how it is on curves etc. Man here in Fl the closest thing we have to a curvy road is an on ramp.
  21. Any reason I couldnt use heat shrink to "seal" things up a bit neater? Just trying to think ahead, I know what electrical tape looks like after a couple years down hear in t the heat.
  22. Hey I know I'm joining in late, but incase someone is using this for references. I have a 756t and the RAM mounts deal. It was on my 900 Kawai before and I've probably put 3K on the bike with this unit and mount. I just went along the "zip lock bag" route. I used one with the sliding lock on it and had a rubber band standing by incase I thought I needed it. I figured if it started raining bad enough I needed to take it off the mount, I was going to go to "plan B" and hit the main roads anyways. Then you you just fall back on even # roads go east west odds North n south except in Ga. Like some others mine came off e-bay. It aint the fancyest piece but it does what I want. Has bluetooth for phone if I want and you can make it play thru the radio via FM. It also has an MP# player and SD card. You can build your own routes or download routes like from the Harley deal or several other motorcycle touring sites.
  23. Ok so this risers sounded like what I would be looking for. Only ones I could find besides the ones the first fellow linked were Kyurakn and the like. Big $$$ So I looked around somemore. I found some more but they were either 7/8 or 1 1/8. How come? Are our handlebars an odd size? Surely other bikes have 1" bars and use a simular set back type deal. Not knowing what I'm working with (mount to triple tree and existing heighth) I am leary of replacing the riserer completly with a new set. But you can pick up depending on what your looking for heigth wise new ones for $30-40. And the 7/8 risers, $30 shipped. What gives only one company makes them or something?
  24. When I was researching tires for my Kawasaki, Pierrlli, Shinko and I forgt the other one I contacted about pressures. The pressures they recomended ended up being usually about 4lb under whatever the max was on the tire I think. So like the Pierrli I was running on the rear the max inflation was 41 I think and thier recomended was 38. I'm going to e-mail Dunlap and see what they say.
  25. Sure enough on the oil change table. The owners manual I looked in last night said 4000, I just looked in the Service manual and it has 8000 checked off. Just purchased the bike and I'm not really sure other than the 600 mile initial service when the oil was last changed. But if the fellow followed the owners manual it was done @ 4k and I'm at 7500 now. So I guess either way @ 8k I'll be due for an oil change and go from there. Only hic-up would be the service manual I am referencing is in our tech section and might be out dated. I had good luck with the mobil 1 and purolator gold filters on the last bike.
