I have a RSV I got in Jan. I havent tried my cortech tank bag yet but I used it alot on my Kawasaki and it had the speedo on the tank. But its a huge bag. Actually 2 parts, I can fit alot of gear in it. I shopped around for probable 6 months on e-bay and my local craigs list. I finnaly got it off cragis list for about $40-50 I forget now. http://www.tourmaster.com/images/products/h_sku233.jpg Check out some of the bags here. http://www.leatherup.com/c/Tank-Bags/sortby_price/2/107.html A buddy of mine got a nice smaller generic type from http://www.cyclegear.com/ It had magnets and like a safety strap to run under the tank. Thats one thing with these you have to be careful of is to make sure the tank is clean when you put them on, otherwise they could scratch the paint. I have figured out where its going to sit and then put clear packing tape on the tank to protect it before also.

2 things I can think of. 1:is there a relay by chance involved? Possibly the relay has corroded contacts inside. 2:Did you say there is an inline fuse holder? Depending on type I have had them with the screw together type and the button on one end or the other has broken off the wire it was soldered to. It would ocasionaly make contact and drive me nuts. I would guess if they are passing lights they may only work in low beam. Are they like the light bar type lights on the RSV?

how to lift a bike with a floor jack?
djh3 replied to Brake Pad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After I changed oil in mine I positioned a jack stand on the right saddlebag crash bar so when I stood it up I couldnt go "overcenter" when checking the oil level. just a saftey precaution on my part. -
I dont miss living in Oklahoma one bit.

This fellow here has a set of Harley slash cuts . http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67492 While I would like a little more sound out of mine it was quite nice not hearing all the racket on the trip I just took of 400 miles. Plus the wife wouldnt be happy being it would be closer to her.

Freebird I kind of know what you mean. I travel quite a bit for work too. 20+ weeks a year for from 2 to 4 night at a time. Unfortunatly my company bumps us around from hotel to hotel so making status get tough. For the most part its either the comfort inns, hampton or I collect "room point" for, the others I belong to like holiday inn I transfer to my airline points. As we stay less frequently with them and they would expire before I could probably use them. I usualy get to take one work weekend and make a bike trip out of it. If I do and need a room inbetween I use points for it. What confuses me is after a couple weeks of traveling back to back they all look the same and I forget which room I have that week.

I guess he was probably expecting it. Thats why I didnt do it. Kind of like being really nice to someone that has pi$$ed you off. They wonder what your up to. Shoot maybe he thinks I shot the tire out on him. I knew that big ole chunk of rubber was comming out of there, just the trejectory was in question.

I guess some of us are still thinking "old school". We want better oil because it is more slippery, thus makes parts wear less and create less heat and stress. Same goes for cooling. Thought being if its running cooler (within a reason) there aint as much stress and strain on part pieces. I do agree with you though that Yamaha has spent lots of $$ finding the range the motor needs to run at for emmisions. The emmisions being the key driving point the last oh say 10-15 yr on the temp thing. Manufactures found if they run the motors hotter they burn more of the emissions. I had an 96 Dakota PU that under part throttle pinged like crazy. I took it to the dealer twice for it. They told me it was "normal". BS I did some research and found out it was a common problem but certainly not normal. The fix I was lead to was a lower opening temp thermostat. Fixed the problem for about $6. Might have tweaked the emisions a tad but mpg stayed the same. With the thermostats in out bike being at say 200 (I dont know for sure just picking a number) its going to open @ 200. If you run the recomended cooling liquids it takes say 10 min for it to reach opening point. With the Ice/water wetter it increases the boiling point and may extend it say to 13 min before it reaches that temp. Its still going to open @ 200 whenever it gets there. Where it might be an advantage is on the cooldown side. Especially in like AZ or Fl or Tx where its hot in summer and you get caught in traffic. May not have to run the fan as long to cool back down.

I had a piece of like 5/16 or 3/8 alum tubing from another project laying around. I got it from one of the local DIY stores. I think it came in like a 2 or 3 ft piece for say $6 or something. I measured how long I wanted it and used a tubing cutter for a nice clean cut. Filed edges and then polished it all up with some turtle wax chrome polish.

Probably wouldnt be a bad spot for a touch of the moly lube you guys put on the splines on rearend. It shouldnt leave the area as fast as say WD 40 or silicone or reg grease. Maybe some copper slip or anti-sieze?

Man I know I missed something on this subject. I was going to run it in my Kawai and I am pretty sure there was a reason I didnt. Maybe corrision prevention. I dont know as straight up the products mentioned have any corrision protection. Hmmmm

So I'm comming home from speedweeks yesterday morning after getting in to hotel @ 130 am. My roomy and I got up about 615. His van was heading back to NC and I was heading home in Central FL. I decided to go down 95 and across to avoid the possibility of big traffic jams in Orlando. It was pretty foggy @ 7 when I was finnaly loaded and pulling out. I jumped on th slab and rode maybe 30 min. There was 2 trucks running one behind the other, then the box semi jumped over to right lane to pass the car hauler. Well they rode side by side for 10-15 miles. So by now I have probly 6-9 cars behind me also waiting to pass these guys. Finnaly I see that in front of the car hauler he is comming up on a car and will have to slow to keep from running him over. NOPE he just starts comming over into my lane. I'm blowing the horn (stebel) flashing the lights he just cuts over. So now I have to back off a little more because the gentleman driver has taken my "safe distance" away. Finnaly another 3-4 miles and the box truck clears the traffic in the right lane and he moves back over. Mr car hauler? Oh no now he is going to pass the box guy that has been trying to pass him for I dunno 30 miles now. All of a sudden KA_POW and dust etc from the right rear of the trailer. Startled me but I knew what it was pretty much. He had blown a tire on the trailer. Next step slow up, waveing left hand so cars behind dont run you over while you are slowing and I moved to the extreem left side of the lane. Pieces comming out from under the trailer. Then the tire gator, the tread comes out squggiling and squirming. I dont think any two of them do the same thing when they get thrown off. All was good, good Lord kept me safe and I waved to Mr courtious car hauler as I went by smiling. No not the one finger salute either, but I did thik about it. DJ Fl

Couple of ideas. I dont know so I'll have to ask a couple of questions. Is the screw hole open to the fluid or is it in a boss? How long is the boss? Is there room to tap it the same size and use the longer screw? Are the threads gone completly stripped or did it get cross threaded? If cross threaded you may be able to run a tap in and "straghten them out. Thats sort of a one time deal if they are not to messed up. You also could either put a heli-coil in it or just go to next size up tap. Down side of this is your going to end up with drill fillings in the resevoir. Maybe some tpae across it will elminate alot of that. The good thing about a helicoil is less chance you will cross thread it as the threads are usualy steel from there on. Cost becomes the driving factor unless you have access to the helicoils now. I think they will probably run you in the $20-30 range for a kit for the size you need. Next size up screww if you have the tap set nothing other than the time. You might have to clearence the hole in the cover a tad for the "new" screw.

I remember having a discusssion on the kawai boards about this. I asked about water wetter and then this one was brought up. I'll try go go look it up. I think it down to if you are running anit freeze for coolant properties the ice/water wetter stuff wont help much. Also it has no low temp (no freeze) proporties. The extra cooling was neglagible but I think the anti corrision was better. I'll try to look it up. http://www.gadgetjq.com/coolant_replacement.htm I think this is the thread about page 2 before any mention of thes products I think. http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/forum/kawasaki-cruisers/119915-coolant-antifreeze-thoughts-3.html

Handy Device for Lubricating Rear Shock

Looks like it may work very well for measuring out sea foam of fuel additives also. Certainly better then the syringe I have been using. -

I was reading on here some folks that have switched to LED and they have interfearence and buzzing in the comms. -
Yup JB should work. There use to be some other stuff called liquid steel and also liquid alum. Both will do the samething as the JB. Drilling the end of the crack should elminate the crack progressing. Of course clean it all off good. You might want to take the dremel and run the cutter blad thing along the crack and then some sanding to ruff it up so the JB gets a better grip. But probably not required.

Have you filled the police report yet? I might be able to find my Sont walkman if ya need to borrow something for tunes.

Mike are you taking about the interchange there @ Destination Daytona or like one below that. I think I know where your talking about and its just a #$^% I agree. But anytime you have that kind of crowds the LEO's are going to be out. Atleast the town hasnt run the event out of town. My first time going up for biketober a buddy and I were going along 95 I had changed lanes to left and he didnt. He got stuck trying to make the exit for Destinataion Daytona and I missed it and went up to the next exit (like 11 miles) and doubled back, made my right and was still there before him.

All In One Good or Bad ?
djh3 replied to FROG MAN's topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
Yup thats kind of me. I have had the same case for several years. I just upgrade the insides and parts. Mostly I use Tiger direct.com or comp usa (same company) I'm not a fan of the all in one things because if one thing goes wrong your sunk. Mine I probably have a part I can limp along with and order one. If your not doing alot of computing have you considered a tablet or I pad? They are wireless and you can get a docking station for them so you have a real keyboard. -
Its right there man. Between the radio controls and the cruise control.

If you use the go-jo or any of the hand cleaner be sure it dont have the pumace (grit) in it. If its the "good stuff" we use to get in a can that stuff is great. Did you pay for the windshield? Call the salvage yard and see what they suggest to get it off with and still be able to use it. There are some of the plastic specific windshield cleaners too. Plexus, navus (something like that) I was just reading a thread the other night I looked up on here by searching "windshiled cleaning" or something close to that and it was actually dicussion about removing the salvage yard markers. Hmmm now where was that......

Well I use to work with an electrician on airplanes in the service, and as he would say "sometimes it just dont make good sense". To hazard a guess it must have something to do with A:ease of assembly of the engine/bike B;part was previously made and subsequently used because it was on hand. C: Sperm whale theroy

Leather saddlebag cover mounting
djh3 replied to 1BigDog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
WOW them there is pricey Keith. I guess they are made for HD and they have to be atleast "hundred doallar". I would say if you had an upolstery shop that does headliners and such they should be able to hook you up. Dont look real diffacult but I'm not an upolstery guy either. but I have made nagahide covers for my tool box. So I can run a sewing machine. -
I'm leaving tomorrow for work in Daytona for a week. Flanning on running backroads up about 160 miles. Suposed to be in the low 60's. Perfect.
