So what are ya saying Jow. Yamaha is going to finnaly break down and follow the rest and go V-twin on the RSV. Use the Stratoliiner 1700 motor or something? I think thats the new bike.

I would have to say the access to Leesburg for those riding down is excellent too. If you want to run the slab down you can run I 75 and jog off around Ocala, or stay on 75 and catch the Turnpike like 1 exit. There are some of the most decent roads we have as someone mentioned around that area too. Ocala National Forrest, Weeki Watchi springs, crystal river not so much the touresty stuff. I was going to go up tomorrow, but the friends we were going to run with dont want to spend 6hr + on the road (for them). So we are going to Solmons Castle and around that area. I really wanted to put some miles on but I'll make the best of it. I like to go over to Daytona or any deal like that. Not into the hanging out drinking thing though. I would have to say the last couple times I have been up there for bike functions (Oct also) I have went to the speedway to see the manufactures stuff Yam, Kawi, Can AM etc then buzzed up to Destination Daytona. Lots of vendors "free" parking and enough entertainment for me. I was not aware that down town or on the beach they charged to park. Figures though, they charge you to park, sell you cold beer on the street, and the police sit up the street waiting for them.

I dunno, to me it sure looks like alot hanging off past the axle. I know stacking up on the trunk is'nt real desirable either. I have been trying to search for some top rails for saddle bags. If I could mount them, that would give me somewhere to store the rain gear while traveling and would free up one whole side for clothes. Dont camp so am not worried about a tent etc.

Ah sayz da blind man. That makes sense, if the gear is fixed to the basket. But by the same token its a crap shoot as to wether the gear on your new part is the correct size to make the tollerence to where it quits the noise right? Hmm Back in the olden day of my hot rodding youth we had this sort of problem with front gear drives I think it was mainly on small block Chevy's. I think we would send them to a machine shop and they cut sort of diagnal small groves in one of the gears (say the one being driven) and that would allow more oil on the surface to help quite it down.

Sort of an expensive fix I would say. But if it works for you. I would say if its the gears driving the clutch assy why would changing out the basket make it stop? Unless the basket has one of the drive gears attached to it.

Nice addition to the "frugal" mechanics tool kit.

Thanks. Yea I remember the rule of not mixing radials and bias ply. My thought was to maybe try the commader II on the rear being the milage has been good. Then being as the front aint that much of a pain to change if it does go 1/2 the milage, try a shinko or something. Anyone try an IRC RS 310? I was looking @ motorcycle superstore the commander 2 is $152 free shipping over 89 bucks. So this is mostly why I have shopped there for bike tires. The tread patterns trip me out. I have e 3's and they look like no center tread for wet weather. And in fact I have had a couple of oh s#its in the wet. So kind of thinking maybe a more conventional type tread. Although I have not read much good about Brigestone this one is interesting. G 526 http://images.motorcycle-superstore.com/ProductImages/300/0000-Bridgestone-G526-OE-Replacement-Rear-Tire---.jpg I ran Pirelli RT 66 before on my 900 vulcan and liked them ok, but the E3's feel better in the corner. Would water have more of a chance of loading up on this type tread ? Kind of thought if I went with the C2 would look for something in the oem size and simular tread pattern to the C2. -
I can see if you mount it up high its goning to catch alot of air and bend the antenna back alot. They make mounts that mount to like the licence plat bracket and the flag mount is on that. Maybe if you used one of them clip on flags and put it about just above the trunk top it would be OK. How about something like this http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Kuryakyn-1-2-Vertical-Mount-Flag-Kit-4254-/00/s/MzAwWDMwMA==/$(KGrHqN,!lEE84JS9m2vBPT)zBjIng~~60_35.JPG It could be clamped to the luggage rack if so equipped.

I use them but everytime I do I cringe. I like the I use to work for U-haul years ago as a mobile repair mechanic. I wish I could tell you how many times I fixed lights, went on service calls on the side of the road or wherever for inoperative lights. And the biggest culprit?? Yup Seems the main shops were in love with these things to fix lights or repair clearence lights etc. But if you are adding something and have to join in-line you dont have alot of choice unless you want to cut your supply line and either crimp connector (next worse thing) or solder. And sometimes you cant get in there to solder decent. Glad you got it figured out. -

Well I was thinking of going with the Shinkos. But I read several reviews today of them being on bigger heavier bike like Softails, goldwings and the like. Most said they couldnt get but 4-5K out of them. No handeling issues just short wear. So now I'm back to what seems a box. E-3's or the Avon. The Commander II not having a front to match in oem size worries me do to the comment about mixing and matching tires from one brand to another. 20mm hmmmmm -
Kind of cool when folks run across these things. Unfortunatly all I remember about that vintage of bike when I was in high school was A: it was British, B: the dang shifter was on the wrong side C: Lucas electrics D: if it wasnt leaking oil, it probably didnt have any in it. I'm not cutting on you. If your up for the restoration heck go for it.

+1 on the small punch-chisle-awl idea. I have gotten many a busted screw out wiith this metheod. You might try one of those spring loaded center punches if you cant get a good swing with the hammer. Cover areas with the rags as was sugested. You will probably have to make a couple strikes almost straight up to get a good dimple, then go from the side and walk it out. Maybe a shot of PB blaster to make sure it aint galled. You should be OK. Of course there is the cork and duct tape suggestion. -
Slab what kind of pressures you running. I sure would like to get as good of milage as you. I currently am running 40 front 41 rear.

Got to have that overhead storage for necessary stuff like xmas decorations. Oh wait, if I got them outa my garage I would have to get the wifes car in there instead of just the RSV. Hmm oh well it's her choice. lol

Personaly I dont think I want a "narrower" tire up front. There must have been some reason that Yamaha put that size tire on there. Something to me about traction, bigger is better. I know I have read quite a few guys mounting up different from OEM front and not had problems. So what is it 20mm narrower? Call it 7/8" Let us know how it works out. -
I'm not a carpenter by any means. But metal might be tough to insulate if needed. What about running your elec etc? No wall so to speak to mount shelves without making "brakets" from beams. On the CCB you have something to fasten to, but you have to mount furring strips to mount drywall to it if thats what you want. I think I would go with just the "industial" elec hookups that run inside conduit and screw them to the wall. For grins call your insurance guy and see if there is a differenc in your rate. Down here in Fl the metal would prob be cheaper simple because the roof would be all metal and the hurricanes are a little more surviable.

Why is a relay necessary for driving lights
djh3 replied to fwbpastor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Something I learned on my other bike when running "new" circuits and extra powered wires. When you put the fuse in, get as close to the power source. I ran a circuit on my other bike and it was fused, but I had the fuse up by the handlebars and the wire got a short and melted the insulation before it blew the fuse. It was ugly and took alot of time to repair. -

djh3 replied to fwbpastor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have been thinking about addig the relay to my fog/driving light system. The way I understand this all I really need to do is run a new larger "hot wire and fuse" line from say the battery to the relay and from relay to the existing light wires. My light bar is already installed and operational. However the wires for this light bar once while doing some other work in the fairing area got moved around and got pinched in the stops for the handlebars. Now I have them tied up out of the way. -

MikeWA, hmm sounds like you might have been an aircraft electrician at one time. Simular to the way we use to troubleshoot them multi wire bundles on the aircraft. -

Way out in left field but anybody think maybe the switch is weak? Will not support the amps required? -

I think I would make sure the bulb is good first. Ya I know but hey its one less thing to come back and bite ya. Then a ground from say the battery to your bulb and power from your lightbar supply. Then reverse and see if the ground is good and power off the battery. It kind of sounds like a broken wire issue or a non-continous power/ground. Like someone said broken wires, you get the voltage but trying to power something not enough wires to supply the demand. Be sure and let us know what you find. On the relay deal, I should think if its sending power the relay is working. Any of them I had crap out are hung in the closed position and lights dont work because it wont close the circuit. -
I wonder if he can file unemployment?

I hav had to reread the manual 3 or 4 times on the radio/com stuff. I still cant seem to get the radio station to go between the presets. I have a few times but it seems to take alot more fiddling than it should. I dont think the reception is as good as say a standard radio would. It sure dont pick up some of the same stations as my truck does.
