To funny. Bob man I just was in a post last night or this AM where a fellow mwmber here made almost the same deal mounting off the stud for the handlebars I guess. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69334 He did the same thing for the same reason, although he left his 3/4 (or whatever diameter) so he could use like a RAM mount and other clamp type devices. Great mind think alike I guess. Me I figured you could add another drink holder. Thats what I'm working on for the wife. One thats out of the way of the bags when your trying to open/close and aint by her ankles.

Best switch for the HID light
djh3 replied to 1BigDog's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Last week or so when I was asking about it there was a couple of ideas floating around. One was way beyond me understanding and the other Cougar I think had the idea of connecting it thru the oil press switch. I like that idea, but I ended up putting just a plain ole toggle switch (no light as I was using existing parts) to break the ground of the relay that came with the HID kit.- 27 replies

Tubless tires was one of the absolute haves when I was looking for a new scoot. My Kawai 900 had tubes and for some reason it was a concern for me to get a flat on the highway. I did buy a C02 inflater and have used it a couple times to "top off" tires on a trip. Like in the AM @ the hotel before I set out. I have a plug kit but think I need to have a dedicated one for the bike. I had a kit that you could pull a spark plug and screw in a special adapter to inflate a tire. But it years old and we all know how well the tool kits are now. When I had the trailer yrs ago we carried a 12v compressor for the air mattress and used it for tires too. Way more options now days.

Another new way to mount stuff on a 1st gen handlebar.

I like the idea. Whats the orange thing on the side with the GPS? A switch box of some sort? I like the customer cut off Idea too, that way if they have more stuff they want say a cup holder, or maybe wider mounted items they have the room. Plus you could use them for hand grips when your tired of the others. -
Have you looked to see what went bad? I cant imagine there is much involved in the high/low deal more than a slider to make contact. Maybe corrosion? For the $255 they want I think I'd be looking at a mini toggle switch from radio shack install.

If its only on start up I have to agree, leave it be. Besides it just keeps them from wearing on the intial startup where oil aint flowing.

Hey Buddy, have you managed to find another source yet? Or are you to busy building cables to look?

Relay for driving lights
djh3 replied to Billkroeger's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Carbon I wish I could have found easy access to the oil press switch for my HID realy deal. I ended up just putting a toggle switch on it. The oil press deal would be the slickest way to do it. Once motor fires, wa la power to relay (or ground which ever you choose) and lights on automaticly. -
My better half was having stomach issues. They kept syaing Gall Bladder did test all that stuff. Finnaly took it out and a few days later she still had same problems. Truned out best we could figure underlying problem was a Glutin tollerance. Some peeps are alergic to it and cant eat it at all. She just has to watch how much and how often. So for like 3 months it was no bread, pasta, baked goods just about anything with flour has glutin. It was ruff but squared her out. Hope you get to feeling better. On the O ring front I ran into the same kind of deal on my Kawasaki. I was checking valves and there is a tube theat goes around the plug, thru the head to keep oil where it should be. Well one of the O rings got pinched and caused an oil leak. First off the dealer wanted $8-10 for it and I was going to have to wait 3 days or something. I went to Home Depot and found one for less than a buck. Sometimes though in a high heat situation the O ring might be a different composition of rubber. Shoot even NAPA or your local parts house should have a tray or something of O rings. At least we did when I worked in a parts house, it was a couple of boxs that sort of looked like tackle boxs.

Pure-One PL14612 vs PL14610 & fit?
djh3 replied to frogmaster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks man. I may have to check into that. I think normaly about $6.99 or so. -
I like TYRE. Trace your route everywhere. Easy to understand, works with google maps, drag and drop to change a route. Basic version is free. Works with Garmin or Tom Tom. WAY WAY easier than the Garmin program thing they tell you to use. 2yr now and I still aint figured it out.

I still have my side horn in working order. I did install my stebel though. I mounted up front on the lef side lower leg fairing. Tucked out of the way. I agree I yours went south I would definatly think about upgrading tooters.

LED Headlamps/Passing Lamps
djh3 replied to DONATALIE's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Has anybody tried these as a replacement bulb in the halogen "holders" ? Instead of replacing the entire light housing. http://image.pushauction.com/ViewPicture.aspx?Key=6ed5c0a4-9570-436e-a396-047b62f99676_22014fa6-95f1-4ae1-9606-d755f46477cf&H=200&W=240 -
Let me guess, you all went to the "ole Plantation" restraunt? When we lived out there they had the best dang tastin steaks and rolls. If that aint where you went put it on your list for next time and let me know how it was. The shifter can be adjusted somewhat to lower the heel part but will also raise the toe. As for highway pegs Kuryakn probably has about the best selection of brackets with twists, turns angles to get pegs where you want them.

I was talking vinyl applied to trunk. Lots of places have pre cut stuff and you can sort of "peel and stick" Well actually you soak it down with water and apply. Here is one place that I looked up years ago for helmet reflective decals but they have more. Check this place out too. Streetglo. If I remember right they had all kinds of options and they reflect at night.
-
You might stop by a local shop that does signs and decals. They may be able to whip you up some blue really close to your color to put on the trunk and make it sort of match the tank.

What no instructions with the part? Looks to me from thier site you just remove the old one, slip on the new. Or are looking for info on removing the windshield? Remember there are 2 screws on the backside that have to come out before you start prying on the chrome plastic piece. Then about six screw across the front and it should be out.

paint/coat for master cylinder
djh3 replied to Big_Iz's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Give us some sort of dimension your looking at. what are you measuring and were to and from. I would think they have used the same ole part forever. -
So if my Doc writes me a script for a new bike with one of these seats do ya think my HMO will pay for it?
-
I'm sure another bonus is the VR is paid for and the wing, well would be like a second mortgage. Its fun to compare.

Dead link. I was reading a little on some tire threads the other night. I think the general concensus was under 2yr. One of the brands (I think Avon) had some sidewall cracking issues that were build time related. There has to be 100 threads about tires on here, check them out.

Good idea on the passing lights. But I would think it would knock them out completly. At any rate it cant hurt to look at the fuse. Here is a pic of what mine looked like. It has been changed out now.
-
I can tell you mine drove me batty for awhile. I to checked fuse, power etc. Come to find out the cheap a_ _ connectors were moving about in the plastic part. Best I could figure was it wasnt actually going over the plongs on the bulb, but next to it. It looked rite, power checks good but its not really around the plug pins
