  1. Sounds like it could be a valve stem/core issue. If you didnt find anything and it would be OK then not. On the shops issue, yea I dunno why they are all closed Mondays. I guess because they are open on Sat? Dont know if Yamaha would do anything for being you are darkside on the rear. Glad you made it OK at any rate.
  2. Nice. You come right by the thouse and dont even say Hi. I see how you are. jk Hope you had a good time.
  3. I have a Garmin 765T. It is NOT a motorcycle specific unit but it works dang well. I got it last year off e-bay for around $70 I think and bought a 2yr extende warranty for like $20. I carrya zip lock bag to put over it if it rains and if it gets pouring I supose I'll just take it off and store it. I also bought a RAM mount. Best way I have seen to mount it up so its readable and secure. I have seen guys mount plexiglass do dads and use the suction cup to it and no tether. I know mine would have been in the ditch somewhere. The 765T also has MP3 player and bluetooth. If you contact Buddy Rich here he makes a cable you can use to make your phone calles over the intercom thru the GPS blue tooth. For me the motorcycle specific units were just way to high. I can almost make payments on the bike for 6 months for waht they want for them. For the bike I would definatly make sure you can program and make your own routes. It is really cool to have the thing tell you the roads you have planned to take instead of what it chooses. Check out this site. Lots of info on GPS of all makes. The folks there are helpful on telling you what model does what.
  4. Bob Myers and Snaggletooth aka Mike have been colaberating on this same deal. 2 piece instead of one solid piec, but Bob has had the item made for a 1st gen since like 2008. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25921 and http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69334 I think they have got together and Bob is going to make some.
  5. I was just on e-bay looking at LED lights, the type that are a replacement for a standard type bulb, not the high dollar whole nechallada thing. Anyways did run across a store there that had time delay relays. Went anything like from 0-30 sec to 0-10 min to as high as 0-60 min. I would think you could set say a 0-10 min one to like a min and that would give you plenty of time to start etc. But I bought the parts to make Flyin's blinky LED warning light switch.
  6. The air filter YA1399 says its 57.73. Is that a good price? I havent really shopped them much.
  7. Twigg, I have a guess on why deisel. A its what was handy B: dont evaporate as fast.
  8. Yea I have read up on these too a little. There is like 3yr that you dont want I think 07-10. Not positive. Research it before you commit to a set. Information is key. Chances are if your shooping at your local HD dealer for take offs they will only be of the last couple years though.
  9. Another option is make a stud for the application. Instead of using a bolt where your pulling the threads out, get a longer bolt and a nut. Thread the nut on so when you cut it off it will straighten the threads. Cut it off mount whatever and then thread the nut. If you dont have cleaence issues that is. Typicaly if you have it threaded all the way down and you just need to snug it up this will work. If its a head bolt or something like that well then you have to go the helicoil or thread-zert route.
  10. Yea I guess thats right. My seat dont have it (pillow top) but the backrest for the wife does.
  11. Tank emblem on my 2009 says "star". The hinge on the saddlebags is the only place it says "Venture". Except the dash.
  12. Like I said. I adjusted it with a "standard" type bulb but of the 80/100w version. That thing was killer. But got worried the more I trolled around here that it was going to cause some sort of nuclar meltdown in the headlight wiring because it had so much draw. So I converted to HID and last night when I took it out for a spin in dark it just seemed off. Maybe its just me. When I aligned the light I did as was recomended in a write up here. 17ft back mark a surface 2-3 inchec lower so on and so on. Last night was just "what I could see" on the road. Does the wiring pic look right? Thats the best I could understand way to do it. Thanks for your help.
  13. So far I'm still on the once a week deal. But we have not got as much rain as some either. If we do, look out.
  14. Well been a couple weeks now since I did the conversion. I will say the light seems to be brighter but I dont think it is aimed as well as my 80/100w. I took it out last night an rode a little around the neighborhood. I had just set the light 4 or 5 days before I took it apart for the conversion. I had to turn the beam down some to make it where it looked like it was hitting the road and being useful. Maybe I just need to get use to it.
  15. My best guess would also be a carb sync, sedement issue. Throw some sea foam at it (I also use Berrymans B12) and ride it. I know we have some memebrs around your area that could maybe help you out with getting carbs sync'd. As far as maintaining speed, yea you should be able to run 70-80 in OD with no problem. I have a RSV and mine pushes the big ole fairing and tall windshield right down the road, even two up. Enjoy your new ride.
  16. I had back surery a few years back. Glad I did. Get well soon.
  17. I have to agree. Even if you buy the inexpensive one they are a must have at times. You can only do so much with a test light. I also have one of the what I would call "nice" sears jobs.
  18. +1 on the being seen thing. Especially in cloudy rainy conditions. Thats part of why I went back to my tourmasters as they came in yellow jacket. Unfortunatly here in Fl unless its raining bucketloads for hour into the future rain gear may not even get put on. by the time you stop, put it on and ride 20 min your as hot and wet inside it as if you didnt have it on. Was same way when I lived in Oklahoma. lol Zip lock for wallet and important stuff and ride. Then it feels like AC.
  19. I have to admit I to often blame the HD guys. But metrics are just as bad about it with aftermarket pipes. To me unfortunatly the metrics sound worse. Sort of like and old Wisconson 2cyl thrashing motor or something. Not a good sound at all. I aint slower, I just choose to drop back so I dont have an ear ache when we get there.
  20. HID kit came with a relay & harness. Before I installed toggle switch, I supplied power to relay (to turn on) from my aux fuse box which is in turn supplied power after a relay is turned on with the key. Does that sort of make sense. Anyways I installed my toggle switch in the ground side of the realy. That was easiest I thought. I just pulled the ground lug out of the harness, plugged into one side of switch and installed the other side of switch wire into the harness plug/relay. Basicly I'm trying to figure out how many wires I'm going to have torun back up the handlebars and under the fairing. I like to hide it in some black tubing like it is now to look more factory. In you directions you say I need a resistor but didnt mention where it was installed. If I was to guess solder it to the power side of the LED and then solder that to the switch? I dont want to cut into the wiring on the bike. I should be able to just tap in where my power comes into the HID relay and switch it instead I think. OK not the greatest but maybe this will see if Im on the right track.
  21. FLYIN: may seem like silly question but how do you wire up the LED ends? Is it like a normal bulb? One to hot and one to a ground? So one end would go to the end of the switch and the other end of it to where? Power on all the time to center of switch and then I guess the other side of the switch to the relay somehow. I guess I'll have to cut up my nice harness that came with the HID to make this work. DANG and it waz so purdy.
  22. Thanks Bobby, I had seen a little on the Thunder on the Beach on Born To Ride show. I think they have a TV web site now also. But it looked different from Bike Week and that because it was a multiple area type deal. WE went to Leesburg a couple weeks ago for their bikefest and it was interesting. We did pay to park or else we would have rode around for 40 min or more looking for parking. Would have been OK for our RSV but I think the Harley guys we were with would have overheated and quit. lol I guess when the yuppy crowd started riding they all thought "motorcycle" was a HD. Those of us that have rode for years have maybe a better idea of what we want? I dunno. We do all ride for different reasons. Sounds like you rode your down, see if you would have had a HD you would have trailered it.
  23. I had one set. I think I gave around $30 or so for them. Its been along time ago. They didnt last me 2-3yr. Maybe a bad set or something. I got them at a sportinggoods store in OK. Used them a couple times then they were in the saddlebags for quite awhile. When I needed to use them again, they split and were falling apart. I now have a pair of tourmasters for me and I think the wifes are Dowco. The wifes came from JAFRUM.com
  24. Typicaly companies discontinue making items when it becomes unprofitable. As the Gen1 and the ole BMW 90r go away or whatever was using that tire it costs more to make less and make a profit. Plus guys upgrade and go with newer tech on tires. They built that tire you said back in the early 80's. Well they made straight 6cyl engines and carbs then too (cassette decks too), but they also developed better ways to do things. Not saying its right, but if they aint making no money they are not going to make the part.
  25. VARIOUSGSC: Why would your warraty not be any good in Canada? I have worked at a MOPAR dealership here in Fl and we service our Canadaian winter esidents vehicles all the time. If they wont take care of it I think I'd be contacting Yamaha. If I come up there and my bike breaks down say in Montreal am I going to have to get it towed to the states for repair?
