fix for broken windshield bracket tabs
djh3 replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I dont know. I have not had it out since I put it all together yesterday. I was missing a rubber bumper on the right lower but had a coupel of stick on bumpers like for cabinet doors and used them. It really sounds like something in the fairing area. I bought some billet pieces from Kirby to support the big rubber dampeners on the fairing after I added risers. Beats me, mostly over bigger bumps, pavment changes on cross streets, drivways and the like. -
You still got glass in your truck? I ask because I'm pretty sure they didnt have mufflers on them. Everybody wants to hear them bikes. Sheeze

fix for broken windshield bracket tabs
djh3 replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My thought was if the bracket can keep it from flexing, maybe the zip tie will give it a little extra support. On the zip ties breaking. Hmm I dunno, depends on quality I think. I have had some I installed and something out in the sulight for years and they are OK. I hope either way to not have anymore dealings with this. -
+1 on the ear curtian thing. Part of the reason I wear my shorty is I want some air circulation around my neck etc. I have though about taking a pair of ear buds (like for MP3 player) and soldering them in instead of the speakers, then just mount the mic. As far as our other helmets go the wife and I both have Bell Mag 8. The J&M headsets mounted up in about 30 min in each of them and work fine. My half is a Scorpion EX100 I like that it has a stow away shield if it starts to rain.

I was stumped when it said "chatterbox headsets" and then he was talking about gettting the intercom stuff to work. I'm guessing it just regular headsets?

Almost makes you want to run it thru a paint strainer or something before it goes in the tank.

fix for broken windshield bracket tabs

Well I doubled down. I made the support bracket that is mentioned in the tech section and I tie wraped it once I got it put together. Then I took a razor blade and trimmed the big gobs of paint that wre around the windshield screws and installed the larger fender type washers. The 2 closest to the center had to be notched to fit the area. I think about $5 worth of supplies from home depot. Hopefully while I was at it the rattle over bumps has disapeared too. -
Yup sort off what I was thinking. The DOT is recomending big trucks and general traffic to take whatever road runs paralel and right side (going south so west side of I-75?) Looks like a State Hwy 297 maybe. I am going to opt for Hwy 9/US 25w. It goes to the other side, more twisties and comes out @ Caryville exit 134 on I-75. Plus side is if they are sending the big trucks the other way should leave more room for us right?

New Idea for Air Filters
djh3 replied to dlhoulton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Had to laugh, this post got kicked back up. I have looked a some other simular mods all look better I think. I like the compactness of the OP but also have seen one done with the cone filters with like a flame on them. Sort of a cover looking thing. Well shoot I cant find the one I was looking for but this is sort of the idea. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODAwWDgwMA==/$(KGrHqZ,!noE-zbG)iGPBPv!OT4)jg~~60_58.JPG -
Here in central Fl (Tampa/Orlando TV) they are running the same comercial pretty hard. Also I posted that if your traveling I-75 in northern Tn mile marker 141-144 is single lane due to landslide troubles. Found it on thier DOT site.

fix for broken windshield bracket tabs

Well I have bought a pies of strapping to do the "strap fix" but am leaning towards the zip tie. I dont have near the amount of tab left you guys have in the pics. So I dont know if it would have enough support. But it"s worth a look see. As far as the windshield bolt holes, there seems to be a fair amount of paint build up around them. I think before installing load spreading washers I may knock that down a bit. But good ideas all around. -
Its all geek to me. Thats why I made a living turning wrenches.

I was doing som planning for a trip here in a few weeks. I was at the Tenn DOT site and a warnig flashed up. There was some kind of land slide in Tenn on I-75 and the road washed out. Last night it said there was one lane open each direction now. Expect long back ups. Mile marker 141 to 144. I know we dont like to run the slabs but sometimes its a necessary evil.

Something in the muffler
djh3 replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
http://www.venturers.org/Tech_Library/index.php?action=article&cat_id=002009&id=285 Several sound clips there of different types of mufflers. The one "stock road king" kind of hard to tell where his mic was. Dont sound to loud though. I think the best representative is the one I think says screamin eagle from drivers seat. You know where the mic was and you can see what kind of engine respose will be needed. -
The fellow at my Victory dealer said the reason the insurance company's are nix on test rides is A:someone just got endorsement and comes in and gets on biggest baddest sport bike and thinks he is Rossi in disguise, but ends up without the tallent-results crash. B: Isnt quite up to the task of the bike twice the size of the one he is riding and think he is-results crash. Then these semi-skilled individuals end up comming bac once in awhile and sueing the dealrship for letting them ride. Geez how sick is that?

Looks good. I'm actually plesently suprised at how well the trunk "fits" and looks factory. So many add on ones look just like that. Added on. -
Something in the muffler
djh3 replied to OrlinEngh's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm guessing its a good time for the RK muffler mod. The cutting rewelding etc sounds like a lot more work than its worth. -
Try a local leather or upolstery shop. May your local Vo-Tech school that has upolstery classes. You might be suprised. I had a convertable top put on a mustang I had awhile back. I asked my upolstery guy if he could add a pouch to the roof to store like a wallet, cell phone type stuff and he did it for about $30.

I have been denyed a test ride and had approved financing. Matter of fact my current ride I had to have all the paperwork complete and signed before I could test drive. Sort of like the one fellow discribed. I made sure they understood if we didnt like the bike deal was off. Everything was good with the RSV so I was good to go. Do some research on your pricing. Not only use kelly blue book and the NADA guide, but local pricing. Really check out craigs list and see what simular bikes are going for. Just because NADA says a 2001 XYZ bike is worth $XXX dont mean thats what they are selling for. Get my drift. If you plan on doing much highway riding or any touring my thoughts are the 650 is too small. There were a ton of the 650 Siverados for sale around here when I bought my 900 Kawasaki. When I called one owner he told me it was to small if thats what I planned on doing with it. I thanked him. PS: If your going to wait until Aug you might wait until it gets cold up where your at. Prices tend to drop with the temp.

Need a Little Help, RK Mufflers on RSTD
djh3 replied to Barry1951's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Nice diagrham here. Optional type here. Dont like those. Try this one. Just a matter of which one you like I guess. Looks to me that the last one is easiest to make. however the "p" clamp is interesting. -
