  1. I have been thinking about rails to go on the top of the bags so I could stash rain gear or something there on a trip and still have room in the bags. If the covers have some way to tie things down this might be an option. Plus side would be no big scratches on the bags from someones foot clobering them when they get on.
  2. I'm confused. Are you needing the metal bracket part of the lexan/plastic part? If its just the lexan you can buy a piece from home depot or lowes and cut it out yourself.
  3. This bike was one of my finalists. lol I really wanted a Victory CC but the $$ knocked it out. My local (well as close as I get to local) delaer had year end close outs with ABS for 13K. They also had my 09 RSV. WE sat on the Voyager and checked things out. The wife said she didnt feel like she has as much space on the Voyager, and also in just the short time sitting on it at the dealer she didnt feel like the seat was particularly comfortable either. I had the same problem on my 900 Vulcan. Then we moved over to a 2011 RSV. She really liked the seating arangment and extra room between us to move if needed. For me the Voyager I couldnt touch the ground comfortably. The RSV was a bit high alos but I had already been reading up on a no cost remadey. THen when I got the bomb dropped on us that you had to pay extra for all the radio wires, headsets, MP3 jacks etc and it added on another $400 or so it changed my mind. Over on the Kawaski boards the heat seems to be a big big issue. Something about Chesters nuts roasting on an open fire or something like that.
  4. WD 40 or simular type light oil works pretty good. You need a clean rag to work with as you spray on and gunk comes off it will smear back on if you dont rotate the rag. The scratches now might be a bit more of a problem. Maybe some good quality wax like a maguires or something will get alot of them. Next time a little heat from a hair dryer will soften to glue up and wont be as much of a chore.
  5. You don't HAVE to run a on off switch. But what we are saying is it will help save wear and tear on the ballest. There is a protective circuit but into the unit that when it has low volts turns off the light. So when you hit the starter you get this low voltage to light. Essentualy what happens is everytime you start you are doubling the wear and tear on ballest.
  6. Yea that. Its a heck of a lot easier to do the first time around. Some good suggestions on how to do it were in another thread. One had a way to do it with a quasa sort of warning light for when it was off. Also some ways to make it "automatic". Those were way over my head. Well Dang-it I cant find the thread now. Flyin posted how to wire it up I think and the list of parts. Less than about $8 at Radio Shack.
  7. Well for lack of finding a better place to post these questions, I figured this is probably the catch all place. The wife and I were discussing some vacation plans. We were going to spend like 4 days in Vegas. Not my prefered place but it was partialy paid for. So I got to looking at my schedule and I have some time availabe in mid October. So I suggested we go up to Franklin Nc. A friend of the wifes has a house there we could use as a base. She liked the idea. I know from there we can make alot of day trips out and around, small towns antiques, rock shops etc. My main concern is at that time of year did I make a big mistake weather wise? I know its hard to tell now, but we shouldnt have to worry about snow and that right? WE are just hoping for leaves changing cool weather etc. The farmers almanac is forcasting averages of 68 for high and lows in the mid 40's. Man I hope I aint messed this one up too.
  8. I ran them on my Kawai 900. I got 14K + out of it. I dont know how it will do on a heavier bike but drop a note back. I am researching the Shinko Tourmaster 230 myself. I had one of these on the front last time I changed them on the 900 but I traded the bike with only like 3K on them. But it looked fine.
  9. About $85 shipped from Chaparral. $84 Motorcycle superstore. $5 more buck there and its free shipping. Shinko Tourmaster 230. Others available.
  10. NAW I think you could be right. Big v-twin air cooled seems to be the trend. Part of what turned my off from the whatevr they call it Yamaha with the bat wing and bags (street glide styling) was they had no radio or intercom features and charged extra for your mp3 hook up.
  11. I can see where a CT has its uses. Like the one fellow said he has a side hack, not much leaning going on there. Also the trikes and trike conversions that are like well for better lack of discription look like training wheels. I can see them getting use of one. If I see the article I'll read up on it. Information is a good thing.
  12. Our medical folks recomend 2 to one. 2 waters then a gatoraid/poweraid of your choice. I try to go with maybe 2 cups of joe in am and no soda.
  13. If tightening bolts at the coupler crushes the tubing and causes problems. Is there anyway to put a piece of tubing like elec conduit inbetween the parts say maybe an 1/8 narrower and then insert bolt. The conduit will keep it from disforming enough to cause you problems I think, but yet allow some tightness onthe bolts.
  14. I personaly dont worry about it, but I hear the wife fuss about it. She wears a do-rag. Brushes out when we get somewhere. I have a under armor strechy cap thing its more for heat than anything but it might help with that. I got it at one of thier outlet stores for around $8. It looks like the thing alot of the football players wear under thier helmets. Tell her she would have the same problem witha convertable, but not as much fun.
  15. Smile-it makes them wonder what your up to. You get that from time to time. I kind of look at it like when I see a old hot rod or something show up. You dont see it alot so it catches your eye. I wish we could have gotten some pics of folks staring at us a couple years ago in our trip to NC. We are tooling up I-75 and the wife is on the back of our 900 Kawai playing some game on her phone. People were just amazed. I was like "what? yours will work to text as your suposed to be driving but on a bike its not suposed to?"
  16. I'll be dnaged if I can find the weather proof one that you can mount say in the dash of the bike. All I can find is the one like I have posted a pic of. I had one so I know they make them. Maybe I found it in a marine section for a boat or something. Orginaly I was going to drill a hole in the botom corner of the trunk and mount it in there. Then I changed my mind and moved it outside the trunk to the grab rail so the one with the mount tab worked out. Hey Hey wonderful world of fleabay aint it. lol How about this one. About $8 with shipping. Pretty much what I had before I swapped it for what I have now. http://i.ebayimg.com/06/!CEo)-ZwEWk~$(KGrHqUOKj0E0gzQRf(LBNSeJPdjiQ~~_1.JPG
  17. Wow Dogman-see there reading your post sparked the ole memory banks in me now. I have been riding here in Fla for so long now I completly forgot about the leaves and sand in spring thing. Not a worry down here. Here in the fall you watch for blue hairs from up north that cant see over the steering wheel. Thanks for the reminder. I guess it shows we all sort of get use to what we are riding in most of the time and forget our training some.
  18. Yea funny I guess. I could care less about what somebody rides, just ride man. I use to belong to a group when I was in Oklahoma that I think we had maybe 20 members at the time. I bet we didnt have maybe 3 bikes top that were the same. Goldwings, BMW Moto Guzzi, Suzuki, not a Harley one at that time. lol As long as you all had a good time with good friends thats what its all about to me.
  19. Which Elizabethtown? KY, Pa, Il, NY, NC, Ohio? Sorry I'm a visual kinda guy. I plugged it into Google maps and it asked me. If I can kind of look at then I get a sense of what your going for. Also you want interstate? All backroads or maybe a mixture of both. I can tell you the Bluegrass is very limited on speed. Like 35mph I think so its slow going and may take you more than you think. But its nice sceenery. Oh but wait you got to steer right?
  20. DOnt know if the first Gen and second Gen motors are all that close, but I had to "relearn" how to rid MY 09 RSV. I can off a v-twin and you could short shift it. This thing I had more than a couple people tell me to let it wind up especially from 3rd on up. Get some RPMs and it helped the fuel milage. I get around 37mpg on my 09.
  21. I have to say I kind of like the idea of taking him out in the cage. I did simular things when mine was on a learners permit for his licenece @ 15. If we were going somewhere I would shoot question like what color was the car sitting at the stop sign we just passed? Or if something flew off the truck infront of us whats your escape route. I think it made him pay a little more attention to surroundings. He did sort of get a headstart on looking down the road and driving ahead so to speak from some racing in younger years. He has expressed some interest in a bike but @ late 20's with a 1yr old , wife house pmt etc I dont see it happening. Plus his other half said "when the bills are paid off you can think about one". Well I just dont see it say in the next 25yrs. I had a 900 Kawaski Vulcan and thought it was a good handeling bike. They are relativley inexpensive for a used one. Dont know if I would go much bigger for a first bike. But you dont want to start to small either. Actually the 883 from the motro company are all over the place and I have seen them under 4K. Taking the MSF course in some staes is rewuired for an endorsement. And most ins companies give you a discount if you have taken the course in the last 3yr. Good luck my friend.
  22. I had one of these from Advance auto parts. $8 Workes great. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/wcsstore/CVWEB/staticproductimage//N3063/mini/6250313_vic_v5349_pri_mini.jpg
  23. Dang computers anyhow. HMmm maybe the other half threw a blocker in there to save money?
  24. Looks as though you all had nice weather. I had to check the web address though, thought I stumbled across a GW site looking at some of them pics.
  25. I bought mine used. How do I know if the dealer (it was a Yamaha dealer) transfered it to me? Also how much is left on warranty. The only e-mail I think I found was for pianos or something.
