Thrush glasspacks installed!
djh3 replied to reddevilmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Last set of "glass packs" I mounted on anything lasted like a month before it got ugly loud. Might not be as bad on a bike though. Any reason you didnt use Road King take offs? That seems to be the answer for the Gen 2. Do they still make just the "round" thrush, they were a bit milder in sound. Just looked at their site and it looks like those are no longer made. -
Saddlebag brackets and Lighting

I would recomend if you are thinking about the fairing (good move I like mine on the RSV) I would wait to paint all the new stuff at the same time. -
I have read about a few of these strange non-start issues here lately. Most times guys pointowards the ignition switch. What causes them to go bad so quickly? I dont recall ignition switches being such an issue on any other bike I have had. I was told many decades ago though by my dealer to not hang anymore keys on the bike key chain than I need to get from one point to another. The excess weight of them hanging and bouncing aint good for the switch.

I just bought a couple of "in-line mic mutes". I have to turn up the IC volume so much to hear the wife I allways had a "swosh" sound going on, and after a couple hundred miles it wears on me. So I opted to try these instead of the much more expensive mic mute you wire in. Have'nt had a chance to try them out yet though. No matter what you do this sytem is better then the old tap on the shoulder yell and hope they hear what you actually said. Amazing how at 70 mph how "I got to pee" sounds like I"ll be OK.

Yea I figured some do gooder would come up that public announcement. JK My luggage rack on my 900 Kawai was way more sturdy and it had like 15# limit. I hate to tell someone I stress tested it for 4000 miles at over 30#. In all seriousness though on the Venture I would be afraid of breaking the trunk lid if loaded to heavy. Depending on size your looking for here is a Dimensions: 21 in. Wide x 10 in. High x 14 in. Depth under $45. Look around here you may find a deal. This is another favorite for inexpensive luggage and stuff

Paint the hack? Naw I think the bike needs to match the sporty colors on the hack. :rotf:Looks good though man. I'm not much on the "buggy" looking ones, unless its on of the Urals. There use to be some pretty far out looking ones in the late 70's and early 80's. Gull wing doors, wedge shaped ones, I think Vetter (saddle bag fame) even had one designed at one time.

Other than a Poker ride about 2yrs ago I havent be a group larger than 5 I think. I try to keep a comfortable distance for me. I try to keep the 2sec rule but dont want to loose any options if you know what I mean. You have to be ready to adapt to your surroundings, and that is what it sounds like the majority do. Interstates may be closed up, which is OK as less odd ball stuff has a chance to happen. More turns and sceenery, distance increases t give us more of a buffer.

I had heard they clossed the doors here a few month back. I found it hard to belive that a company that produced quality work like they did would go belly up. I'm suprised Polaris or someone didnt buy it.

I have a couple different bags I use on mine depending on what and how much. One is a Dowco rally pack, worst part is it is made for more of a sissy bar set up and has alot of straps that need to be secured. I also have a generic sports bag (duffle bag) made out of a nylon type material. I just put a garbage bag inside and load everything in the bag to stay dry, or I put the stuff in those big zip lock storage bags they sell @ bed bath beyond. Saves space and keeps junk dry.

Well I would have to say you are correct. I looked for awhile and none of the places I looked had an XL in the Matte finnish. I think my second choice would be the Titanium maybe. Mine is Matte black and the wifes is white. She went white for less heat. I will tell you everytime you simply rub or bump the Matte finnish it looks like it has a scratch. It dont take much. The painted finnishes seem to be a bit more durable with the gloss. I did find some of the Mag 8 for around $80 I think. I think I found a place that had the Black Matte with the orange stripe in that size.

Shoot I just did the 2x4 under the kickstand like checking oil. If you want to make sure it isnt off to the side now your going to have go thru a bunch more hoops. You will have to measure from handlebar end to say the corner of the trunk on both sides and get the handlebars perficly centered. Now that is also going to have to take into account that the fairing is perfectly centered as your riding down the road too. I agreee the up/down adjuster aint the easiest thing in the world to get at to adjust the dang thing neither.

Unfortunalty over 40yr of working on cars/trucks/bikes/go-carts......... I think I have a spark plug socket for just about everything. I say just about as the stinking weed eater has a 3/4" plug. Anyways the piece of 3/8" or so fuel or vacum line works great. Gives you enough grip to turn the plug in, but if it aint in the threads straight it wont cross thread. I also use anti-sieze on the plug threads so I can get them back out eventually if needed.

+1 on easy to build the switch. If I managed to figure it out (all be it took probably 3 or 4 posts) I think most with a little mechanical skill can. An ounce of prevention...... and all that.

Mine came off e-bay. Less than $50 for kit for bike. Slim ballest easy to hid parts. At recomendation of others here I also installed an on off switch for the light so as not to make it fire additional times while starting bike.

K9cottage: the only issue I had with using the FM transmitter way of running the music was as you travel down the highway the band usage changes from area to area. So if your using 88.0 now in ten minutes maybe that channel is used by a local station and you have to retune your stuff.

unopenable saddlebag lid?
djh3 replied to yuckly's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
My left one (the one with CD player in it) is very fickle about closing. It almos feels and looks like the lid is warped. When I got the bike I noticed that there was not a securing strap on it like the other side had. So I made a couple, otherwise when you opened it the lid would almostlay against the side of the bag. Now sometimes the bag is extreemly hard to get open. I have noticed it more lately that the heat is way up. -
Must be thier newest model. I never saw one before. I can tell you I currently have 2 Mag 8's. The wife and I both have one. I like that it has a sunvisor on the top, it has been a big help at times when the sun is in a bad spot. A flip face shield is nice too, for the rain I seem to not be able to dodge here lately. This new helmet it appears it has a seconday "sun shield" inside. That looks neat. It looks like the shield on my Scorpion EX100. The bell is like my 3rd one I think I have had over the years. I had one of the old 3/4 standard jobs years ago and had to quit using it when all the padding finnaly fell out. My bell is more comfortable on longer trips than my shorty. I did have to "adjust" it in the forhead area as it found a high spot on my forhead and rubbed on it the first long trip I had. Some rearanging of the styrofoam with the handle of a table knife to make room and all is good. I have had to make small adjustment in most every helmet as your head aint a perfect fit to the mold they use. I would say find a motorcycle shop that carries Bell products to get a good fit and try one on. Mine fit good like I said right out of the box. I tried a couple others HJC and maybe a Nolan I forget now and didnt fit as well. Felt like it was high siding on forhead and back of head, no contact on sides sort of. Like it was oblong shaped. But like I said molds are different. Bell has been making skid lids along time and I think the second helmet I bought was a Bell.

I usualy run my GPS thru the aux port and it seems to be OK. However a week or so ago I had to go to Daytona about 145 miles and since I just got back off a long trip I had just about enough of the MP3 stuff I had on the GPS. So my answer? I pluged the phone in and logged into Pandora. I had to crank the output on the phone up and then it got sort of distorted/tinny sounding. I plugged it into the boostaroo and it actually gives it a bit more bottom end and clears things up. Was a good alternative to my MP3 selections. Besides when your going down the road with rain gear on and your smiling and singing it makes people wonder what they are missing.

Kirby you may be right on the year model. If it aint a Gen 2 I dunno.

Cool I came thru you all's area on the 1st. It was 106deg @ 6pm. I was glad to get to the motle around 7.

Yea commonly known as a "scotch lock" connector. Eventually over time it may cut the wire in two. Alot of folks dont use them because sooner or later they cause electrical gremlins. I'll use them but not on anything I have to depend on like lights and such.

Do you have a set of the set back risers on it? If so the rubber bushings dont support anything. Mine rattled like crazy before a member here set me up with bumper supports for them.

I have to agree Jay. Had the RK muffs on mine for a 2200 mile trip thru mountinas, super slab, backroads overall a good mix. Not terribly loud but enough so when I got home I put OEm back on.
