OK one of the pictures ther confuses me as I have not yet done valves on this motor yet. This gizmo fits under the cam and against the bucket of 2 adjoining cyl. Do you turn the motor over to get it in place or somehow grab the poor nubby end that is there and rotate it to force the buckets down. On the FJ 1200 the tool bolts down to a cam cap and a "finger" pushes the bucket down sort of like the pic with the piece of all thread and flat metal.

I had alot of years riding in them Oklahoma summers in the southwest part. Phew I dont miss them either, but lately it seems they have followed me here to Fla.

I would say definatly the heads. Probably the drive line parts, Clutch slave, not sure what all is usable on the 1300. But cyl heads you should be able to turn upside down, put some WD 40 in them and the valves should free up. At any rate the heads are a rebuildable item, and if they are anything like the FJ1200 heads its hard to find good rebuildable parts. You may be able to recoup some of your money from them.

I have read a few posts where fellows have got the tape on and then the goo wouldnt come off. Protecting the bottom of the saw might be a good preventative effort. I'm chicken, I think I'm going to try to make a template out of cardboard and cut a complete windshield out of lexan. If I break it, I guess I make new lowers for the bike instead.

Well looking for some info guys. If we can get some info on the measurments for the valve tool I have a very talented person that may attempt to make a couple if it wouldnt end up costing more than just buying one. Here is a pic of the dimensions we need.

Take a trip to your local Autozone. They have a "loan a tool" program and probably have the expander. You can use thiers and not be out the money. Treecol Try the RK take off mufflers first. Look around on craigs list by your location and see if any are for sale. Good sound and your not out $200-300 bucks. You should be able to find a pair you can go pick up instead of ship, check with your local HD dealer for some take offs. There were a couple years you want to stay away from as they had cat converters in them, but its like 09-10 model years. Look thru the fourms and you can find the "good" part numbers. I'm still searching for an alternate source for the clamp on the muffler end, right now I'm using just a plain old hose clamp.

How about a shot of PB blaster or WD 40, Liquid Wrench or simular product at the joint. Could help free it up.

Yup on the heat. I have been a few conversations with guys that have them. They like thebikes well wnough but the heat is killing them, especially this summer so far. Not much passenger room is also true from what I have been told, and the heat was so bad on the passengers right leg one guy I was talking to at a Victory demo ride was looking at trading his like 3 month old one in on a Cross Country because his wife said she wasnt going to ride on it anymore. Kawi has tried to "fix" the heat issues but nobody I have talked with says it is fixed. Some say slightly better but still hot. The Cross Country I rode had the best way to cure that with the factory lowers you could adjust vents to move the aire around.

http://www.wolo-mfg.com/air.htm Go about 1/2 way down. Look for "Bad Boy" The stebel is actually rated @ like 138db instead of 118. Set your headset on like oh I dunno half loudness and play the sound bite. It WILL get thier attention. What they do after that cant be said. but its great when they drop thier $8 coffee or cell phone.

Had one simular to that and one of those small AM-FM motorcycle radios on my Kawaski. Worked pretty well and gave me a place to pug in an aux feed. The small radio I had also had an out so I could run ear buds if I wanted on a longer trip. -

Small dab of silicone gasket sealer works too. I havent seen it eat anything up. -
So Kevin, what your sayin is its like the weather forcast? Its a "best guess" situation? I try to study my route prior to traveling like I said. For the most part it works well. But I have had it route me thru say a subdivision to get me to the road I just got off.

OOPS Yea I forgot they actually (Locktite) have different numbers for same colors. I have a tube of blue that is in a tube and is a "jell", works pretty well. My Red is the 262 I think. The green I use to use when building rearend gears was a thicker type like the red. I have a small bottle of green that is suposed to be "retaining" type but it is watery and looks like food coloring. -
I got one of the Sgt Slaughter (or something like that voices) Its entertaining for awhile. But if your on a long straight bit it gets old fast. But its different.I switch between voices some. The Brits keep ya laughing. Need a Cheech and Chong voice.

Heres thier site. Bottom of page is a tab for pricing. Sometimes looking around you can find better prices for the same item from a dealer vs the manufacture. Check out craigs list.

Is your insurance paid up? After I quit racing them things in the 70's I rode a few in late 70's. I started calling them "hurt bikes" instead of dirt bikes. It seemed I couldnt hardly ride one without some sort of Boo Boo. Have fun be careful

I was going to say 2 things I have done for those types of applications where a screw goes thru plastic into metal. One I have used is fingernail polish, no particular color. Or you can put a dab of tread tape or pipe sealer. It sort of looks like liquid paper. The PVC tape works pretty well and you dont have to worry about adverse effects. Thanks for the reminder Goose. My basic rule is Blue-for anything aluminum Red-steel to steel Green-if you want it to never come apart -
For the most part yes. I have been on a route and it tell me to "turn right on barn hill road". Well looking ahead you can see its a dirt road or path up to some guys barn. Looking @ the GPS map its a winding road and comes back around, and the GPS was just thinking that road was a short cut. I tend to use a amp program (TYRE) to "build" a route for most of my trips and it will give you some goofy roads if your not careful.

If he puts her on the side of the road here in a couple weeks there will be thousands of potential customers up there for the races.

djh3 replied to Black wing's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'll bet the autolite plug number is in the tech section, what do you all think? Looks like a 4163 autolite. I just took a stab at year etc. Heres a page you can use to get to what you actually have. -

Well the Lexan I have is brand spanking new. Well sort of I have had it for 15+ years but it has the protective film on it. I havent checked the thickness on it yet either as I'm working up to this prject. I like the tall shield and so far it hasnt caused me much grief in the rain. Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind.
