  1. Project is done. Wasnt too hard. Been doing mechanincal work all my life and most times by myself. So you come up with some work-arounds. My bleeder bottle I make sure has a high spot in it so fluid makes a stop for the air. Did some "flow" bleeding and some regular "pressure" then release bleeding. All seems fine. Although after looking at the speed bleeder site I could see where they would be a bonus.
  2. If I would have had patientce I would have ordered some higher tem stuff mentioned in this post. But I really just wanted to get it done. So I used (standard) DOT4. Being yours is triked, I have no clue what your rear brake set up is. I would guess the DOT4 would be good.
  3. Searched all over town yesterday for DOT4 fluid that had a little better wet spec as well as dry, but nota. So I ended up with plain ole DOT4 prestone fluid. Oh well meets spec so thats what I used. Dont think the rear brake feels any different as far as pedal hardness goes. Neither do any of the hyd, but they didnt feel bad before either. I did figure out a helpful trick though. I remembered reading somewhere along the line of threads about bleeding to be sure you got things covered in rags to keep drips etc off paint. Heres what I came up with. I took the sleve from a t-shirt and cut it off, leaving sort of a tube. Then took a rubber band and secured it around the resivoir. It held the rag tight so nothing got by. So while standing there a moment I thought "what if you spill something other than there. I thought about draping rags on lowers and tank to cover it, then it hit me. I had a whole pile of them wal-mart bags. I put one over the lowers like a sock and then used the blue masking tape to tape on across the tank. Worked great.
  4. On a recent trip I had a splitter for my Aux input so I could run the GPS and Pandora off my phone. The volume from the GPS was fine but I couldnt seem to get as much out of the phone, even turned way up. I did have my boosteroo with me and tried it but that didnt seem to help much. Is there any kind of amp that can be installed inline or the like for the Aux inputs? If I turn up the phone volume to say the very top the out put get sort of distorted, so I have to give it a couple clicks down. But then you have to run the volume on the bike @ 28-30 to hear it at 70mph.
  5. Hotter plugs maybe? But still you say the MPG is no where close to what should be so I would think too much fuel is getting in somewhere.
  6. Well just got home. Safe and sound and no more issues with the brakes the rest of the trip. Although I would have to say I was way more cautious than I would have normaly been, braking way early and going slower etc. So I have a supply of brake fluid in the garage from the days of race cars and sponsors. I just checked. Wouldnt you know its DOT3. But it does say on it 550 deg. Something about super heavy duty on case. I havent read a bottle of it yet, just whats on case. If the 550 is the boiling point, acording to the info that was posted here thats better than the DOT4.
  7. We just got back today from a trip up that way also. We rode some amazing roads and never got the the Cherahola, Dragon (she wasnt really interested in it so I scratched that early) or BRP. Lost the rear brakes one day comming back from Andrews Nc because some dunce in a Land Rover couldnt drive !@$!@#% but thats in another post here. No troubles after that one day. Excellent weather all week but one day. We satayed in Franklin and made it the base for the week.
  8. Late commer to this thread but it caught my eye. So you have probably already fixed this problem no doubt. But here is my take. You wear what you want, Ipersonnaly spent 20yr defending our constitution and its part of your right my friend. Its not vulgar or anything of the like. My other $mart a$$ idea is to show up with your vest and masking tape or duct tape covering up the other patches. Then when someone asks you whats up you tell them this guys obsurd rule.
  9. Berrymans B12, like $5 @ wal o china mart.
  10. Cb is low pipes (road bike) a high pie is "scrambler" lol. I think all the point and ignition parts for the 70-125cc bikes were the same. Search e-bay or cycle trader.com and see what shows up. If I took a poke a guess would be maybe $800-1000 good shape. Maybe more surely someome is looking to buy back memories.
  11. I found or was tought to bleeding is to keep fluid in the tube. You can see bubbles and als keeps air from backing in system I usualy have like a pig tail loop of clear hose then air cant get back. Sort of like the drain trap on your kitchen sink.
  12. So a couple questions. Where can speed bleeders be found? How much are they? And exactly what do they door make easier? Was thinking I would bottow a vacum bleeder from my local autozone.
  13. Well was OK today no fade. But tookit easy too. I think flushing hyd systems will be high on the list. What is the difference between wet/dry boiling point. I would think the higher the boil point the better performance. So arr some dot 4 higher boil point? I havent looked but is there a rear brake upgrade? Is that something to look into?
  14. So looked at autozone web site. No listing for 5.1 fluid. Only dot 4. If i figure I can do this in a parking lot with no tools.
  15. Hum dont know how water would get in. I just put new pads in rear . Really dont have tools to bleed brakes with me. Thanks for offer of speed bleeder but dont see getting over to that part of Tn. Think we may go over to brideal vail falls, Highlands Dillard tomorrow. See how it goes. Never had this problem before, and rode some more agressive braking roads this summer and it was hotter. I do have more weight this time though.
  16. Well had very simular problem today. We were riding here in NC on Wayala road I think they call it between Franklin and Andrews. I was following a bonehead in a Land Rover going down hill. Iwas in 3rd I think and was gaining on him. So had to break hard n long a couple times. Pedal got soft feeling so downshifted a gear and next corner nothing. Tried to pump couple times, no help. So rode 5~ 10 min in 1 and 2nd. Then rears felt ok. Stopped to ck for leaks when I could and all clear. Was ok the rest of the 40 or so miles back. Im on a trip and tools very limited, like bike tool kit only. Really would like to go to cheahola skyway but kinda spooked. I think the dragon is off the list. Any thoughts?
  17. I have made several long distance rides. Only recently did I take the time to collect the documents and turn them in the the Lond Distance Riders for a Bad to the Bone 500+ mile event. I actually rode something like 625 miles in less than 12hr. Not a huge feet but here are some of the particulars. Over half of the ride 300 miles or so were in medium to heavey rain from an impending hurricane. Temps were in the mid 90's. Not a big del but it all wears on you. I finnished that ride that day and then rode 525 the next day in less than 12 hr. Actually that was all back roads up thru NC, KY and was pleasent. Not braging, but pointing out you have to be prepaired mentaly and physicaly for being in the saddle that long. I dont mind, to me the 600+ mile day was a bit long but OK. Mostly all interstate and boring as heck. I'm not a speed demon, pretty much the speed limit. The rain makes you slow down. If you run a GPS you can see how the time fly's by when your stopped and it seems like you cant recover it while moving. For me its more a I did it thing than anything. LDR isnt for everyone. I've got friends that if they make 300-350 a day. My trouble with that is I dont have alot of vacation days and shoot its a days travel on the slab to even strat to get somewhere from here in Ctrl Fl.
  18. Our Toshiba is bad about that. It is the "physical" switch and actual DIP switch on the side of the laptop. You pick the machine up, dont realize it and move the switch to the off or whatever postition. DIP switch, not to be confused with DIP $hit. Both can cause a simular problem.
  19. Well heck, why do I need 2 trip meters that only go to 1000 miles? Thats as stupid as a scrren door in a submarine. Or putting a cassete deck in something in 2012.
  20. Gorilla Glue
  21. Mine will start in neutral with side stand down or up, pretty sure. I know for sure it will start with bike in neutral at any rate, I do it all the time. Just for grins, make sure you check the kill switch on the right side. I have barley bumped mine and it looks like its OK but really its got the bike shut off. Reset it just for fun.
  22. Kick stand switch. I dont think mine will start with kick stand down and clutch in.
  23. My trip 2 reset itself. I reset it when I changed oil and was using it to track the milage. After a month or so I was going thru the milages and I noticed it was like 240 or something. I knew that wasnt right as I had run like 5 or more tanks of fuel.
  24. Be sure to lube the O ring with a little oil prior to installing also.
  25. What do ya mean it dont include colision? Check your policy papers. For what I'm paying the ins company better pay or I'm comming loaded up.
