Hanging fuel cell for Garage ceiling
djh3 replied to deepforkriver's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
Freebird, good luck with finding a "universal" type gas tank. I looked for 3-4 months before I had to make my tank for the press washer. Now a days the tanks are all mad into the engine cowl. I thought the same thing, even went to local lawn mower repair joint and a replacement tank like your talking about was near $30 or so. I thought that rediculus. On the pic of the metal can. Oops shown your age dude. They aint made metal cans like that in along time. Nice if you can find one though. In place of the IV stand if you got one of the 3 tier lights that like stands in the corner and the lights are all sloppy like they get. Strip it down and use it as your stand. Otherwise a couple of pieces of plywood crossed at bottom, notched to fit into eachother and a 2x2 or something screwed to the base would make a temp stand. Then you could take it apart to store it. Storage is a huge issue in my garage. -
LOL Somebody needs to make a map of this adventure kind of like they do the Santa Tracker thing at Christmas time.

Dang I was afraid of that. MAy have to just wire it so that provision can be made at a later date. Just got a "red light" camera ticket in the mail. $158 what a load of crap. Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas bah humbug. From what I found on net, 158 to pay, around 90-100 to hire a suit to fight it, if loose could be as high as 500 (most around 300) So I guess I just cut out the red cross, Boy Scouts and ministry donations until its covered. Take note Congress, thats how you budget money, not go to the boss and tell him you need more cause you spent more.

Yup have seen the LED strips. All I have seen around here are like clear plastic tube with the LEDs in them. Not a real finnished looking item. There are some that have like bullit ends on them and look like door edge gaurd. They wouldnt be bad, but when I find them they are like $20 for 5-8". Thought about mounting stips up under the bags along the rails to just shine light at night. Have seen some pics of long strips mounted on trunks that look like the old T-bird tail lights, sequential. Start at on end and blink all the way down the strip towards the side your turning. But I think they would eat up my gass allotment for the summer.

OK new question. I checked today and it appears the rear running lites I installed when I first got the bike (on the rear crash bars instead of reflectors) are a regular incandesent bulb. I had thought I went LED. Ah well anyways if I build these circuits and add a pair of lights back by the rear somewhere and add these regulag buls into the run/turn circuit will it still work the same? Will the incandesent bulb still light with the reduced voltage and then flash when signal is on? Or am I going to have to replace the light with an LED one?

Hanging fuel cell for Garage ceiling

While not a complete answer here is what I did when my tank for my pressure washer got to leaking and they wanted $40 or something for a tank. I got a 1 gal red fule tank from local store (I used tractor supply) Home hardware store Home, Depot, Lowes, Ace Got a barbed on one end threadded plastic fitting like 3/8 thread I think. I drilled hole on lower corner area of plastic fuel can then threaded it with a tap, wraped pipe thread on it wound it in. The fitting I got I used one that had a nut for the backside, so then I stuck nut in socket and tightened it down on fitting. I supose you could use just a thread in type. Install fuel line and You can use a small pair of vise grips to shut off fuel, or one of the bigger flat type office paper clips. Make sense? -
I think maybe these are the lights I going with. They are made in a clear lens that the light burns amber or you can get an amber lens. I think the amber lens may retain some reflective properties. I think I'm going to get a pair of red ones for the rear and connect them in a simular circuit and make them a run turn signal. May even rewire the rer clearence lights into a run turn deal also whiel I got it tore apart. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/USA-MADE-Tecniq-Amber-Clear-LED-Clearance-Side-Marker-Light-1x4-Camper-Trailer-/00/s/OTYwWDEyODA=/$T2eC16NHJGoE9nuQeSy9BQiV9jcY1Q~~60_14.JPG

Yea I have some also, not sure of size though. Also have some spiral wrap stuff we use to use for anti-chaff on hyd lines. All black so may hide stuff. Also may see what autozone and the like have.
-
With the info I have been able to find in just a general format, the draw of LED clearence lights is anywhere from .03 to .10 amp. So using the highest @ .10 and the aprox 4ft I need to run the chart says I can use 28awg as its good for .226 almost double what I need. Like I said I'm trying to hide the wires with the rubber shielding alredy in place. Dont really want to add that convoluted tubing cover stuff or any spiral wrap if I can stay away from it. 18awg is going to be impossible to hide that way. I might have a little bit of 20ga I can see what it will do.

Steve I'll be up that way in Feb around the 17th. At the risk of imposing, what is about the smallest gauge wire I could run for those wires wor the clearence lights (LED type) I am thinking about camoflaging them as best can and maybe running the wire inside the chaff tubes the brake lines run in comming down the forks. 26ga to small. I supose I could find a site with the info but me eyes are shot for today.

Your link dont work. Is this where you were trying to go? Your going to really like the HID man. Several write ups on how to install. I used a couple of the brackets that come with it, trimmed one up and used a bolt for the stereo or something there in the center to bolt it to. Pics are in my folder there or PM and I'll send you the pics via e-mail.

Didnt know about the wire diagram. I just happened to be on Gadgets site looking at something else and it caught my eye. Amazing what happens when you got time on our hands aint it? I was thinking about the strip lights like that. Was thinking maybe double stick tape and run them up the side of the bags along the fender.

Bongo: thanks man for the diode info. The lights I'm looking at using are the ones I used in the rear are like this only red of course. http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/bli/B485A/image/2/ The other option are slightly larger but dont have the chrome around the edge. http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/bli/C588A/image/2/ WalMart has some that are a little nicer looking than the second here. The chrome is a little nicer look I think. I replaced the ones on the back of the bike with the red/chrome ones. At $6 that aint bad if someone has already soldered it up and all. Now thinking I may add a stip or something to back of bike, maybe down along the lower saddlebag rail. Maybe wire it in on a tail/signal circuit. Buying the circuit made is a nice option, but when you get the chance to go out and tinker in the garage for hours on something that should take you 20 min-priceless.

What are wheels made of 05RSV

Beverage cans. I'm sure I contributed to some of them back in the day. Now its usually something from Tn with a black label. -
I have a question for you all. I am looking at changing out the front reflectors for some LED marker lights. I had this crazy thought that I could maybe make them also part of the turn signals. I was reading on a nother site how a fellow connected a light bar something like what some of us are using for extra brake lights only his was a single function, but he made it dual as tail and brake light by adding some simple resistors and diodes available at radio shack. This is his diagrham. Substitue the turn signal for the brake in the pic. Could not find a 4003 number diode @ RS anymore so not sure what you would use limit wise. 330 ohm as long as it was 12v or more right? http://www.gadgetjq.com/ledbrake-run_circuit_single_image.gif (pic form Gadgets fix it page for Vulcans)

Keep drinkin the cool aid.

I think I have sort of settled in at 40/40 on my Michelin's. Why the front has a 1lb higher max is funny.

Although milage is reduced some, I think the main issue with the ethonol type fuels is after it sits awhile it draws moisture, also it kills rubber parts and drys out hoses and fuel lines.
-
I had almost forgot about that.
-
My experience with stations that have ethonol free stuff is for some reason its higher priced. Not just 2-5 cents like 15 cents. If its regular 89 octaine stuff runs about 12-20 cents higher, but most of the time I have found only mid grade or higher without ethonol in it. So then tack another .15 or more onto what hightest is and ouch. Would really have to get better milage to off set the cost.

I do see more Victory's now than say 5 yr ago. I think alot of that has to do with them standing behind thier stuff with a 5yr warrenty and the "other" motor company wasnt. Service is still kind of thin but heck with the reliability I have talked to guys about you need'nt worry about that to much. I thought I read they were going to use the Vic motor to help with reliability and cost cutting. It would make sense. I know a fellow that has an Indian from oh say 5-6yr ago not sure how long. But about every 40k he has to do a valve job and put guides in it. I want no part of something like that. I think to sell them they will have to be under 20k for sure.

AH yea I forgot about reading that. Glad your feeling up to riding. Really this is the best time to make mile IMOP here in Fla. Was thinking about going over to Sarasota to Thunder on the Bay this weekend but Sun would be only day we could make it and the weather forecast aint good. 40-50% of wet stuff. Dont really care to ride 80-90 miles one way to get wet. I am eyballing a trip for work from here in central Fla to Ontario Ca and back this Sept. Kind of depends on my buddy, we aint had time to talk it over yet.

I would have to say the biggest thing I missed was the comarodery of my folks on my shift and overall the squadron. Just seemed to be a tighter nit bunch that civilian shop. I got out and went to work in a race shop where we took care of over 30 race cars. Quite a spread in ages, like 18-19 to a couple guys over 50. Everybody pitched together to get work done, but when whistle blew everyone scattered like ants. Didnt seem to have any hey Joe ya want to come over for lunch Sat or how about grabbing a cold one Fri after work. I will say the group where I am now is more on the level I had when I was active duty. But we are on the road together for almost 30 weeks a year together. Shoot maybe you can get a part time gig selling bikes at the local motorcycle store.

On the importing deal. Once its in "custom routes" the GPS will only allow 10 I think. Usualy a substansual amount. It will still store them in the "my data" but just not accessable until you make room by deleting. Only been a problem once for me. This past Oct the wife and I spent a week in NC in mountians. I had places we wanted to go and of course I didnt want to travel all main highways. SO I had to do some rearagning. Overall I think its a very good unit. Problem is anything they produce now dont have MP#, aux out or input unless its the high dollar "motorcycle" units.
-
I like the idea that a couple of companies have tried to keep Indian alive. But last article I saw they were going to produce like 4 models of wich I didnt see really any difference besides bags on/bags off. I get the "retro" style theme but it just dont do anything for me. I wish them goo dluck with the venture but you dont see alot of Vics on the road and I cant tell you the last time I seen a Indian.
