Couple things I noticed on the "spyder" A-its says "Racing 3 Wheel Motorcycle" Is that some kind of joke or what. The other is in the specs its says engine manufacture Manufacturer: BRP-Rotax I dunno man the last "quality" thing I got that came from China was a cup of tea.

Finnished today. Heres some pics. Actually the wife and I went for a ride this evening and they look pretty dang good in the dark.

Anyone ride a RSV on I-40 from NC through smoky mountains to TN?
djh3 replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
Hey I'm not sure and have'nt checked the Tn dot site but seems to me about the same time 441 thru the park got washed out there was some talk about part of the Cherahola being in bad shape also. -
Worked on hooking the fronts up some today. Looks like they will be pretty simple. No cutting or splicing of wires. Just need to build 4ea "y jumpers". Plug one end into the power to lights and split it with Y so I can power OEM light and my new lights. I have the power wire running along the brake hose on the back side with a couple little zip ties.

Barry been up that way every year for the last 3 or 4. Usually I come back from Cincinati on I 75 to knoxville area. Then decide if I'm going Cherahola or Dragon, or anothr route. I wouldnt suggest the Dragon that time of year or with being new to the bike. I usually go up I75 to about Macon then get over on 441 I think it is and go up thru Dillard, Franklin up Moonshiner 28 franklin to Bryson City area. could definatly be cool in early mornings and after about 4 pm. -
I hate moving. I think I'd rather have a root cannal.

Comfort wise I would have to say the drivers backrest and a pair of highway pegs I transfered over from the former ride. Risers for handlebars. I felt like I had to reach forward, so I moved them back a little. Safety wise I would say ditto on the stebel horn's (yes 2) and more lighting. I added the light bars across the back and recently I changed out the reflector on the side of the rear by the bags and have parts to do the ones on the front forks to amber. So all the lights will act as running and turn signals to help with being seen. Well I hope anyways.

If your troubles were documented when in the states atleast you may have a little fire power working in your favor to show something went wrong before.

Jeff were you in on the deal with Bob Myers when we were talking abou this a couple months back? He was working on getting some machined up or something then work got busy. I told him I wasnt in any rush as I only had 13k on the bike. Well OK now its 17k but I still got room to work with.

I like the RSV, honestly I dont think I ever saw a TD until I had already bought my RSV. Probably the 2 biggest things for me when we moved up from the 900 Vulcan I had was I wanted electronic cruise so it kept a constant speed and I wanted a intercom/stereo. Hind site being what it is I now know I could have went with a Scala or simular system to accomplish the comm/radioo thing. I do like the fairing vs the windshield. I honestly think if I had a luggage rack I could carry more gear on a trip with the wife. I say that because I have a Firstgear roll aboard that has a big velcro deal on it to go around the sissy bar to keep it on. So it being a roll aboard size suitcase you can fit alot of gear. I also have a Dowco Rally Pack I use to use on the Kawasaki for traveling. It hauls a good amount of gear also. The trunk kind of limits where and how much you carry. But is handy like other have said to put your helmets in or a jacket or whatever instead of just leaving it over the handlebars or something. either way I dont think youll be dissapointed. The engines like to roll at highway speeds and there are lots of folks here to help you out friend. In your area you may run into the same thing as we have in Fla here. The bikes seem to get more miles on them for the same amount of years oposed to where they cant ride all year. Looks like the Beverly Hillbillys dont it? I had to pack about 12 days of clothes.

Reflectors to LEDs (with turn signals)
djh3 replied to Motorpig's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you go to the thread I have linked in a post above there is an explanation on how to build a circuit to make LED light with the running lights and still work as blinkers also. Also in that thread if your not inclined to tackle the soldering task a fellow offered up to sell some he had pre-made. Check out the lights from these folks. Made in USA for me thats a +. Good quality stuff. Mounts available in black or chrome and in single pin (self ground) and double pin 2 wire. If you call you will actually get to talk to a human that speaks regular english. -
Reflectors to LEDs (with turn signals)
djh3 replied to Motorpig's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I went a completly different route this winter. I took the reflectors off by the bags that I had mounted lights in and bought different LEDs. I also made some brackets and mounted the same lights onthe rear. I wired up the LED's with resistors anddiodes so they work as both running and turn signals. I went with the "clear" lens's and red lights on the rear. I have a pair for the front reflectors AWI (awaiting installation) on another project that requires splitting the fairing. All the info was in another thread here. -
Well the deisel I can see being diluted would lubricate and coat some internal parts like O rings and help sticky solinoids in injectors, maybe the slides in carbs. The "white gas" would make it so it actually combusts. But if its colman camp fuel I would wonder what the octane rating is? The "heat" is also known as "dry gas" in some parts I think.

I would stay as far away from Chicago as I could. The route posted looks like a good start. Depends on how much time you got to burn. Indy the last time I was there we stayed over by the airport and that entire end of town was a disater. The route looks to have you going north around which should work fine. If you got time there are some cool roads over towards the northern KY Cincinati area up the river. I know sometimes time is limited and you gotta ride the slab. But for me that just makes the off the beaten path stuff more enjoyable.

Small O ring around choke rod. I had simular problem many years ago on a bike. I finnaly took the knob off slipped a small O ring on the shaft and pull choke out take you fingers and slid O ring up against the bracket. It hold enough tension so it dont just fall back but when you push the choke in it moves. Just food for thought if the other stuff dont work.

Like off what they use to call a "silver wing" It was like 500cc v-twin only side to side not front to back, like a Guzzi. For the money I dont think I would shy away if it looks good to you. I kind of like the bigger tires.
-
White gas? You talking colman camp type white gas? Or AMOCO hi test?

Antennas are correct I belive. The one on the left has the black piece on it about mid way up. Dont have an SWR meter any more. I'm not sure the dealership knows how to adjust it either. lol If I remember right you loosen an allen screw and adjust the height of the antenna.

Man I look at that RSV air cleaner set up and it makes me think of the old toy they had back when I was a kid. You could put all these whacky pieces together that looked like old bathtub plumbing. It was called "bath tub brass" or something like that. Sort of like going to home depot and playing in the plumbing isle.

I have not looked in years. There may be some "motorcycle" specfic trailers that have a MC type tires on them. Most of the trailers guys use are "converted" or car top carrier type trailers. Alot buy the harbor freight trailer and add a car top carrier and extend the tounge on it. I had one a buddy built me back in the 80's that was 1x1 tubing and the small 8" wheels on springs. It was about as wide as the saddle bags and pulled straight.

I have not had any luck with my CB. It works this I know but adjusting it to where I can hear anybody has not been accomplished yet. I messed with it a little last summer but I either got nothing but static or the fellows I could hear were only a mile or two up the road. Not anything like I remember back in the days of my former use of one. I'm sure I just havent learned the fine tuning art of squelch for it.

Got part #"s ??? If a fellow was to mount these up and had a set of HD mufflers, would you have to rejet the carbs etc and retune ?? I'm thinking about it, but I have found OEM replacment K&N sets for less than $70, so may just stay with the factory set up. I had a Barrons big air kit on my 900 Kawasaki and I had the rain question also as the air cleaner stuck out into the air stream. I was told the rain cover had taken care of anyone I talked to that had one. The rain cover is simply a slip on cover that is essentually knee high nylons that slip over your air cleaner. I guess the material does something for the air flow. At any rate I never had any problems with rain on my 900 with the rain cover.

So which hole is the trouble maker. Looks to me like the top one has been leaking.

Hard to say for sure. But it looks as though someone fabricated a new axle for it and fit those wheels. One advantage to the larger diameter wheels is the rolling resistance should be lower and also bearings should run a bit cooler. Depending on size of tires/wheels you could maybe put your take off front tiers on the rig when you just dont feel comfortable with the amount of tread left on them to stay on the bike. The 2 things I would look at would be is it sprung axle. Do the tires show signs of uneven wear, indicating the axle is not mounted straight. From there it dont look like you can go wrong if you need a trailer.
