Working as a mechanic in a garage and when first starting the wiper blades battery etc easy stuf was my job. I learned back then to double check marking on the poles. Back in the day Ford was oposite of everyone else. You could use the other battery but you had to turn it around and the posts were at the back of the battery box. Thanks for the insite to your problem. I look here all the time to see what folks are running across. Good luck to you and your machine. Hope nothing other than pride got fried for now.

Answer to hearing over bike speakers is YES. Switch to aux and plug into the jack by cassette deck. 765t has an SD card and you can record music and personalized routes on it. Playback music thru MP3 player built into the Garmin and directions will over ride it. On the lifetime maps I dont think they sell a "lifetime map" version for the 765t. Shoot they probably figure the "lifetime" of the unit is done already as it is like 5yr old. Most newer units do not have any external connections for mic and aux output etc. I dont know why maybe they are trying to force us bikers to the $500+ type units. If you want to build your own routes I suggest TYRE. Its free, works with Google maps and is a heck of alot easier to use than base camp and mapsource.

OK have a couple questions. I just bought a lightly used one of these. I got everything connected and it works. Although I have to turn the volume up to hear them better. On the otherhand the party on the other end says they can not hear me well at a stand still much less riding. Is the mic volume controlled by the IC volume? I discovered when I got home the IC volume was very low 0 or 1.

+1 on the 765t Mine has worked great. Just wired in an ed-sets blue tooth harness to be able to use the blutooth function with phone if I want to. Check to see if your roadmate my have an audio out jack. Then like was said you can just plug it into the aux. As far as the anti-glare, there have been a few times it has been really difficult to see screen. But yesterday I was using the GPS in the car and I had simular issues. So I supose it can happen in any usage. The 765 does have an adjustment for screen briteness though. I personaly dont see a need to spend the $$$ for the Mc specific GPS units. Unless you got to have XM or something not offered on the "std" type GPS.

Switching to Synthetic
djh3 replied to Ventureless's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hmm the jug says "full syn". So to me that should mean its all syn. So far everything I have googled up says its fully syn also. If its blended I should think thats what it will say. -
Yea kind of where I was. I put a set of straight cut HD muffs on. On a longer trip of 2200 miles I couldnt wait to get them off. But I like the deeper sound. So I found a set of slash cut HD muffs. I like the looks of those much better anyways. It might be my imagination as the db rating on both in the stamped area is the same. But I think the slashs are a tick more paletable. At 70 I dont think they are much louder than the OEM. I just wired up a plug system so I can plug in ear buds to hear music with the 1/2 helmet. Should also knock some of the "blap" out. Havent taken a trip with the boss yet to see if she has any objections. I do have the OEM's in the attick incase they get the nix.

Switching to Synthetic
djh3 replied to Ventureless's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
For whatever reason I use to hear more of this years ago when Syn oils were "new". I the last say 15-20yr not so much anymore. The syn oils stay more constant on the lubricating specs and also dont "spoil" or collect the acids and stuff that makes dyno oil varnish etc. -
Well with todays "kids" tweating and twitter and the like at every move they make, somehow I dont think they give it a second thought about unfriendlys knowing what thier next move is before they do. Hell they tell people they are at the corner coffee store, going on a date etc. Kind of like "Hey thieves go to my house I'm gone for the next 3hr"

If your up for different scenery on the way back. Up around Ocala find state road 40, it will run you through the Ocala forrest over to north of Daytona. You can take it across to A1A and run the coat up A1A to around Jacksonville, then up 95 to Savannah Ga and run the coast for awhile out there. Something like this.

What type of Antifreeze to use
djh3 replied to bostonlawman2003's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I wouldnt run straight water either. Of any kind, distilled or other wise. What I meant is with the WW or ICE they have the lubricants alegedly in them for the water pump. Also just checked the jug of Autozone antifreeze I have. No silacats listed. 2 types of glycol, water and a "propriatary ingrediant" njdst or something like that. Bottle says OK for alum engines. -
HMM let us know how the spray on stuff works. The bottom of my shroud around the rad and leg gaurds are getting pitted and chipped and this stuff may help.

I have a Garmin 765t so it has a SD card for MP3 also. Mostly I use the aux in for my phone and Pandora. But if your looking the MP3 player route for $15 I dont think you can beat it. My problem I have had with using the Garmin as primary player is its tough for me to change up how it plays tracks. (lack of operator experience my guess) Also my recording need redone I think, some are loud, some not so much and I have a few tracks that play a minute or so and then quit and go to another. Looks like a soulition to the CD player killing the space in the saddlebag though. My other thought was to record my selections on CD and use them instead of the store bought CD's. You can fit more music on ones you record.

So how are the beams on the NT LEDs. If you turn off the headlight and use the LED how is it? Wide and short or does it project a beam say 30 ft? Have yet to get an answer on this question. I currently have 35w halogens with clear lens. I think thats about where they go is 30 ft or so and cover maybe a lane and half wide.

What type of Antifreeze to use
djh3 replied to bostonlawman2003's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have had a couple of discussions also with fellow riders about adding water weter, ICE and the like. For those of us in the south we could almost get away with just running that without anti-freeze. Will the jug actually say "silica" on it? Or is it disguised as one of them 15 letter words. -
If the upper piece of the OEM clamp will not work with your new riserer I would have to suggest that they are incorrect in size. If they are not correct they will not clamp the bars down and then you have safety issues. I know mine were what you might call a tighter fit with the tall riserers. I guess the machineing was a tick off. If you havent already put the forward (top) bolt in a couple of threads, then work on the bottom one getting started. How much do you think it is off? Are the dots on the upper clamps on the top (forward) position?

I think its pretty close to the stuff we use to use on open wheel race cars I worked on. We called it helicopter tape. It can be bought by the roll but it aint cheap. Does a nice job of keeping stone nicks and chips off your paint and cracking the fiberglass. We used it in the AF on some stuff but orginal use was leading edge of helicopter blades for the same reason, rocks etc nicking blads and causing repairs.

I thought I would look up the MSDS for the stuff I have at house. I just changed coolant in the wifes Durango. It is the auto zone stuff full strength. Has 2 different glycols and a dipotasoum phosphate listed. To lazy to go out to garage and look at jug rite now. -
Ill drop a note when I get home and ck schedule.

When I read about lifetime maps I question, how often do staes/counties build new roads?

Cut speaker wires, solder on a 3.5 mm plug for ear buds and run ear buds.

Keep the venture or move on??? Please give honest feedback...
djh3 replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
Barry, its up to you. But 2 things mentioned I belive "should" cure the problem. Risers will move the bars back and take some of the reach strain out of the pic. The other is the cramp buster, throttle rocker for the throttle. Im spoiled I use the cruise. But sometimes you cant use it even on interstate drives. -
Those nasty trim clips!
djh3 replied to beastwood's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I messed one up so bad I ended up with a "real" nut plate and a 10/32 screw in it. -
Run some sea foam thru it. If you can get at the throats of the carbs you can as its running a bit above idle close off that throat/carb. It should help clean the idle side of the jet out some. but over all you probably need to sync carbs it sounds like. If you havent changed pipes or low restriciton air filter I wouldnt think you need rejetting. If anything manufactures have things so leaned out to make emissions they dont like to idle.
