I think strickly from threads I have read the trunk area is your best bet. 4 screw hold the trunk in place if memory serves. They have a tendancy to work loose. Also the helmet hooks on the back. Antenna mounts, how about the hand rails beside seat. I know you probably have looked at most of this stuff. What about the fender mount bolts? Speakers could be it but I would think they would clank/rattle all the time.

If someone measures up the spacers I would think they are easy to make if you wanted to. I thought about it the other day just using a piece of alum tubing, but it would have required another trip to the hardware store and I was close to getting job done in faring so I decided to just use the standard spacers. Only problem I saw was if you make the spacer about an inch long you cant get the allen bolt into the light bracket and spacer between the faring. MAybe would have to use an button head allen.

New compact air horn install...
djh3 replied to darthandy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
But you know what Larry. I bet he remembers next time. -
On the blinker fluid, dont you need dual action type. It works as a running light and turn signal. On a serious note about the bulbs. I remember having a conversation or two about going to LED signal bulbs. I tried it and in front didnt really work that well. But what was brought to my attention is there are some of the signal bulbs available in a longer lasting and brighter model.

Actually seating position and comfort (both driver and rider) is what brought me to the RSV. WE have a couple friends that have E-glides. While we still had the 900 Vulcan we sat on the HD. It felt almost as cramped as the 900. We sat on a Voyager and it was better. We rode the Victory and noticed right away that we didnt have the helmet banging going on if you stopped quickly or something like that. Also the wife wasnt right up against my back. Then when we rode the RSV she commented about how much more space she had. Then when we took our trip last fall she really liked she had room to "adjust" and strech a bit.

I was in Leesburg at a bike ralley this last weekend. Star had demo bikes there. So I looked around and they had the usual 12 different kinds of crotch rockets, and a few cruiser types and whatever the "new" sportster knock off type bike is. So I asks the more "seasoned" fellow of the group. "So what have ya got for a touring bike here?" He points to one of the cruiser types and says "just add bags, windshield yada yada Star makes them all". :rotf:So I said "you all didnt bring any Ventures?" He says naw they aint updated in since 99 and probably wont until they run out of motors in storage. Probably 2015. He told me he has had 3 Ventures and all have been the same except paint color. If it aint broke dont fix it is what Yamaha is probably thinking. He said there may be some "audio upgrades" in the works for the next year. I said "whay they run out of cassette decks?" He just laughed and said "probably".

Link is bad somehow man. I had to look. I had a camera case we wernt using anymore and thats what I use. Sort of padded, a little bigger than a phone case and zippered compartments to put Garmin in and one for car attachment and sd card.

Passes the 5x50 test. I would have not even atempted the pin striping with the touch up paint. Maybe a paint pen like you use for model cars or something. I probably would have went with something like this. Dual purpose. Covers my not so precise paint lines and would give reflectivness in dark.

I kind of had the George Jetson bike (vision) grow on me. Enough I had one spied for a good price. So good it was gone before I could get the paperwork together at the bank. But the luggage is smaller and you would have to work at packing it as it has odd angles. The CCT no worse than what we have or a HD. Plus the bags take about 30 seconds to take off to clean or service the back of the bike. I agree the price on the Zumo is outragous. But I think the price of a Zumo is crazy anyways. As far as heat, not near the issues the Kawi Voyager has and they have an oil cooler on them vs nothing on the HD. You look around you can find new ones for around 20K

Check out the victory site. Look for "demo days" or something like that. The factory brings a hauler full of bikes out for folks to ride. Most dealers do it once or twice a year. Send your dealer an e-mail youd like to ride then they keep you informed. Hey guy your in luck. Coleman Powersports in Woodbridge Va is having the demo ride May 11. Just looked it up on the Vic site. Man what a mothers day present

New compact air horn install...
djh3 replied to darthandy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Horn circuit operates backwards of most things. Horn has power to it all the time and the ground is switched. I dunno why just the way they make it to keep us on our toes I guess. -
Good 1st Gen Cup holder?
djh3 replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just was in Leesburg and picked one of these up. May help-may not. Its called a chubby cups. -
For the size I think more people show for this than I have seen at Bike Week. What I mean is they have like 6 or 8 sq blocks of area to put show on and its packed. My best find of the weekend was solving the problem of a rear cup holer for the wife. Most I have looked at are either way stupid expensive or when mounting are in the way of the saddle bag lid opeing. Or are going to kicked, or mount the drink to low to be serviceable for here to reach. Like the leather ones that go around the rear bag bar, would hang drink by her ankle. I bought a Chubby Cups universal clamp on holder. Easy release with flip of a lever.

+1 on the Vic CC, I think my second choice would be the Vision. Dont know why the cam thing seems to be a constant problem with the HD's. I have heard that for years. Maybe because its a 60+ yr old engine design and they wont update the cooling or something.

Went to Leesburg today. Left the house around 8:30am. Nice riding weather. I figured being it was last day better be there before noon or it will all be closing up. MAN was I wrong. WE left after 3pm and it was still going strong. Bands playing food vendors all still there and not a one looking like they were going to pack early.

RSTD, Extra Storage Space
djh3 replied to GeorgeS's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Cool idea man. Patent pending I'm sure. lol -
You got to use 4l to pull a stump? Huh Mine I just use 2nd or if its tuffy 1st. Had to beat a Cummins 5.9 and a posi. Oh it digs big holes in the yard too.

If a wet cell ck the fluid level also. But I would say batt is prime place to start looking. Had one in wifes car volts good, but hit start and click click. Clean terminals and good for a few days then may have problem again. Kind of an on and off again thing. Turned out had a bad plate or something in it. CCA should have been 700+ Finnaly about the 3rd time I took it to be ck it read 225.

A buddy of mine had a simular experience with a Honda Shadow I think was the bike. Looks sort of like a sporster. Anyways he fell into buying the 1100 version of the bike as fixers and riding them for awhile. Then he ran across the 1300 version I think it was. Thinking bigger is better, but he said the motor didnt have the same power range and the ergos were off, for him atleast. As far as the Can-am I'm on the fence. I kind of like the things. Dont know how comfy they would be 2 up on long rides, and I wonder about rain riding as either you are putting the drive wheel in the center (oil stripe) or a steering wheel there. The look is differen but so is a Vision and I like them too.
-
I can asure you the piched wires is not a "one off" thing. I did it on mine while splitting the fairing. You get to wresteling the wires etc and one of them little buggers gets behind to where the steering stops are and ZAP. Mine is even tighter with wires now. I added LED side marker/turn signals in place of the front reflectors. I did like 3/4" drop on mine. I'm thinking pretty hard about going all in. I changed tires last summer and went with the Michlen Commander2 and they are taller by a little.
-
I ran 40/40 in mine when it was on. It worked with that tire so thats what I'm running with the Michelin Commander 2's also. The pressures on the bike are kind of like the pressures listed on the door sill or your car. Its for the OEM tires which may or may not have been the E-3 and are usually lower than what will give you the best milage and performance. The pressures are "OEM recomended" to get the best (softest) ride feel typicaly.

Glad to hear good news for once. I dont care what the media heads say, its still dang sluggish in the job dept. So Mayfield dairy..... guess whos bringing ice cream.

Had that actually happen a few years back. The wife and I were in Gattlinburg Tn and it came a down pour. I knew I was in trouble when I saw a duck in a life preserver go by. We had to stop at a traffic light and the water was over the top of my 7" boots. But it makes you appreciate the good days.

Sounds as thought its in the steering system. Try to locate the leak, could be a line or the steering rack also. The "whine" is air in the pump most likely. Fluid gets low, sucks air and then makes the noise. If its around the pulley its probably a front seal on the pump. Should be pretty easy to sort out where the leak is. Hose not a big problem to change, if its the steering rack thats a different story. If you replace the rack you'll need to get the fron end aligned after replacing more than likely.

Recently say last 3-5 months ocasionaly when I turn on my GPS as it comes on it has a message about maps not being current and needing and update. I have seen in my area and on e-bay people selling map updates for around $25-35. I'm woundering these must just be "burner" copies or something being Garmin wants almost 3x as much right? Will I really get anything or just a blank SD card? How much have the roads really changed? I know around here they dont even harldy fix the pot holes much less build new ones every year or 2.
