Pics of the bike man!!!

I used it with a relay for an aux power on back for the boss's phone charger.
-
OK well still about same price to replace.

Or if you still have all the goodies for the HID kit, put it back on and order a new bulb for the HID. $20 or so for just the bulb on e-bay for a bi-xenon

I would like to have one some day. Will I ? I dunno. For the time and money situation the RSV works good. If they actually depreciate like some have tried to convince me I may be able own a CC in a few years. This has been my desk top for awhile now.

Gas mileage comparasion Venture vs RSTD
djh3 replied to dave_wells's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Barry youll find you will go off the "fuel" light and watch the odometer to start counting the miles when it hits the light. I find myself watching the gauge on a trip and then it seems like all of a sudden I need to be looking for gas as the light came on and I'm going "when did that happen?" My calculations youll need gas about exit 451 in Fl, exit 142 in Ga (Fort Valley Warner Robins area) -
I made my marker/turn lights for a couple reasons. Some CSdexter mentioned. In darkness the LED out perform the incandesants. Any extra lighting to make my bike noticable day or night is a bonus. Plus I got to fabricate some wiring, brackets and mess in the garage for a couple days.

Gas mileage comparasion Venture vs RSTD

Hmm ok. I figured more weight difference. I may be a bit coo coo but I think the MPG is a bit better with the RK mufflers. Might be my imagination or just the trips I have checked the milage on. I usually figure 38. Long highway runs 40 maybe. But I use 38 to figure gas stops that way I'm sure to make it. -
I had a flasher I pulled from my truck. I then pulled the leads out of the connector for the bike flasher. Made a couple jumpers and hooked it all up. Couldnt get the auto cancel to work. So I gave up on using a "replacement" flasher. In theroy it should work. but so should our government.

OOps Guess the info I gave you was for going around the otherside of Atlanta. I have run the 16 by Griffin Ga over to us 27 up to I-20. Not bad decent roads and good flow. Normal slow down stuff when getting to towns but nothing terrible. When I was driving cross country before we use to figure an hour and half from bottom of Atlanta to by Kennasaw. If you hit it right, if not about half a day.

Gas mileage comparasion Venture vs RSTD

Thats sort of odd. I would think the TD would be better as it is a few hundred pounds lighter. I thought basicly the powerplants were exactly the same in the 2 bikes. I have noticed a vibration also at say 60 in top gear. I just figured I was lugging it or something. -
Passing light switch question

Is it run with a relay in the circuit? If just straight thru switch I supose it could be bleed thru. But I suspect something else needs to be looked at. Sounds fishy. -

Adding Rear Lighting ?
djh3 replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Grr I hate scotch loks. But sometimes ya just have to use them. I bought some LED marker lights. They had the clear lenses but show red for the rears and amber for up front. I took the OEM reflectors off (front and rear) and mount the lights. I built a couple of brackets for the very back by the bags. Made circuits so lights are on for run and also flash for turns. -
If times not a huge critical thing we could relay it up to him brake pad. I'm in Sebring, could meet you say around cleweston or lake placid then get to him in a couple days scheduling permited.

Problem with just replacing the flasher on the 2nd gen anyways is you loose the auto cancel feature. I tried to work around it but didnt have mush luck. There was a write up floating around a guy modified the flasher unit on his 650 yamaha which has the same basic layout for auto cancel I guess. I tried the LED in the front an rear OEM sockets but didnt care for them in the front, they just didnt look bright enough compaired to the incandesent bulbs. So I built some add on LED signal and running lights. Hard to actually see where lights are when taking the pic as the reflective stuff shows up. But they are in center lower on rear.

I'd be up for knowing where and what wires to move. I ocasionaly have the issue of the ticking.

Mk II headlight bulbs?
djh3 replied to Peder_y2k's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would have to say +1 atleast on the HID. I've got a 2nd gen but still the lighting of the HID is superb to the 85/100w bulb I was running. There is several guys who have put the HID in the 1st gens. There is some jumpers or something that have to be done to keep a warning light or something off. You can find motorcycle kits on e-bay from $30 up. When looking make sure the kit comes with bulb, wiring harness with relay and the ballest. Plug an play is what your looking for. Plug in your headlight number 9006 or whatever and conversion. 600k is about the best I think. Has slight blueish tint but not blue like sky. Check some posts youll see what most are running. I just looked and some kits are under $20. -
Oil - preference and recommendations
djh3 replied to pa_don's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I remember working in a garage back in the late 70"s. Alot of manufactures recomended only changing the filter every other oil change. I think most oil changes were in the 3500 range back then. But it baffled me why change 4 qt of dirty oil out and leave a dirty quart in plus a filter that was dirty? Made no sense. We had a customer that came insiting the every other change deal. One day he came in wanted only the oil changed, I asked him so you shower with socks on too? After that I guess it made sense to him to just change it all out and get fresh. If anything changing the filter inbetween and adding a quart makes better sense. I have done that before if I had mostly highway miles and was short on cash. On this bike I started with Mobil 1 V-twin oil 20w50. But at $10 qt and only 4500 miles between changes (by the manual) I switched to the Rotella T6. Something like $21 gal vs $40 -

A couple things. Unless a center stand has been added I dont belive the 99-2013 RSV have a center stand. Most times anytime a bike is on a side or centerstand there is a "neutral safety switch" If the bike is on running, and stand is down if you put in gear it shuts the bike off. This stops anyone from riding off with the sidestand down. Just a shot here as to this being your issue. Put the stand up and drop in gear see if it still dies. -
j&m headset patch cord
djh3 replied to GeorgiaYankee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think knowing what I do now, if replacing I think I'd go the chatterbox or senna route. I made connectors so I can plug ear buds in on the bike. Next step would be a way to bluetooth the music from the bike to your senna -
Yea I think 10" to short for my freferance also. I think when I measured up one time I was looking at somewhere around 15.
