djh3 replied to RoyalRider05's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well heck that aint much of a ride. :rotf:Glad you all got it fixed. -
At one time I thought about using wire screen door screen to keep bugs and stones out of the rad. I used a piece of lath on the wifes Durango when we got it. Somone had knocked a hole in the plastic one.

Right now me and my garmin are having a fight. I made a planned route to go up a couple hours to Midnight V4 to pick up a carb tool. Pretty simple eh? Try to import and the route will not show up in the "import" are so I cant even put it in the "custom route" I ended up going to google maps and doing the route and then importing thru garmin site. Anybody ever bought the map update off e-bay on the sd card? I see them everyonce in awhile on craigs list too for like $20.

Big rigs here in Fla are notoriuos for blowing stop lights. Just to much work to gear down and shift I guess. I dont mean close calls either, people are stopped and they blow the horn and run them.

I didnt get the lifetime maps as I figured the way our government works it would take them 20yr to build anything new. Its a good unit, if you find one that is a refurb you can usually get extended warrenty thru square trade for about $15 for 2 yr. I only paid about $50-60 for the unit. It is getting almost impossible to find a unit that has an aux out port and is able to import routes. I think they are trying to force folks into the motorcycle specific models.

Check here. TAADA Thanks V7Goose

I remember reading about this. I think I made braces before mine broke, and I used the zip tie deal to help support it. Thats the repair where you make a bracket to come off a speaker bolt and come out to the end of the windshiled frame right?

I have the less expensinve J&M sets. I have to run pretty high also I think 15 or better. And if I really turn it up so I can hear the wife good I got a bunch of feedback noise. I bought a pair of mic cut outs. I think air rider or something. Essentially does the same thing the mic mute does but is button operated so you have to manualy turn the mic on. I recently built a couple of connectors that I ran along the inter comm cords for ear buds. So now I plug in ear buds and hear the intercom and radio and still use the mic. As far as I know there is no ear buds with a mic. I dont have to run the volumes as high with this set up because the sound is much clearer. Whe the mic button is off you dont hear all the shhhhh either.

I had a home built trailer years ago we pulled behind or Suzuki GS1000. It was only about maybe 2.5' wide x 3' or so tall (box) and maybe 4' long. Being that narrow I never really felt any wind issues. I like the sloped end forward ideas for all the reasons mentioned. If you turn them around I guess you could induce lift at the hitch. Which wouldnt be good.

So for grins I look up the MSDS for the 15w50. Under hazardous materials it says "zinc dithiophophate" LOL That cant be bad for what we want right? The $11 qt V-twin oil shows the same concentration of it. LOL None in the 10w30. Still the Rotella T6 Syn for about $22 gal is a decent buy ($5.50 qt)

Yea it can be done in a few hours. Depending on if you want to put a switch on it or the time delay relay deal. The switch option takes longer as you have to have other parts for the switch and LED warning light etc. Now I see the relays are pretty redaly available I think thats probably the best option. This is same unit I have. There are some US sellers for kits and about $10 more and no relay harness.

Borrow your buddies bike for a couple hours. A tape measure and a square should let you measure up some mounts etc and give you a pretty dang good idea if it will work. I had a 900 Vulcan that at the time nobody made a bat wing for. I found the reckless fellows and called and told them what I was trying to do. Headligh size was a big factor on that particular bike. I had a Memphis shades Phat windshield on it at the time. I bought the reckeless faring and between th etwo sets of brackets fabricated up my own. 3 months later Memphis shades comes out with thier bat wing faring. Go figure. I used cardboard and some thin plywood as mock up bracket stuff. Then used that as a template to make the final brackets.

I think I picked up a 4gb from wally orld for under $15 a year ago. These bikes are amazing. What did we ever do with AM radio?

So which one of the 10w30? If running the cage oil couldnt you run the 10w40 or the 15w50 stuff to? http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/102992/image/2/http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/112917/image/2/ http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/103535/image/2/http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/mob/102990/image/2/ Got a coupon for 5 qt for $30 @ autozone. If I can use the cager 15w50 I may go pick some up @ $6 qt

The Rotella in either the Dino oil or T6 syn will work fine up there and down here. I like you prefer something a little thicker in summer here in Fla. Just looked on owners manual and it says the 20w50 is good down to 10c (50f) Are you looking at extended periods below that? Maybe opt for the 10w40, other wise run what you normally do. If you figure your going to change up there, ride some and come back youll probably be ready for an oil change not long after you get back anyways. sure hope I get some of that cool weather in Aug when I head up that way.

Had a simular issue with the wifes car last winter. Car would start, then you could go out later same day or may be tomorrow and click click. So I check stuff everything looks ok. Clean terminals varoom. So I think I'm good. A day or so later same thing. Long story short had battery tested and said was OK, a little low on cca but not terribe. Backtracking troubleshooting second time had battery checked was 200 something cca on a 700+ battery. Best guess was the plates were bad but happened to make good connection first check. So your new battery did you go with an AGM?

Amish, how in the heck did you manage to order up 50 deg weather in May to ride in??? Bad part is looks like your going to have a bunch of rain for your trip next couple days too. Be careful.

Those guys were some kind of pilots. We had a friend that was in the formation that did the deed n Japan. He neveer did say where or if his had the actual bomb. But still those had to be some hardy fellas. Got to rub elbows with some at different airshows I attended with my waircraft when I was active duty. Them chopper pilots from Nam wernt quite rite either. Different dudes but sure am glad they were there. Thanks to all my military brethern.
