Well just plotted up some courses. Looks like looong day that day. We will leave Charlotte and make it just south of Williamsport Pa. Then make the leg up to Canada. WE have the day we travel up to make it to Bowmanville. Going the 7 route its like a 11 day of travel. Without any lookey loo stuff. I guess will have to look into this shoreline route. Is the Hwy 7 a nice ride? Curves and hills? If the lower route is full of tourest and rubber neckers that might be bad. Are you talking about the trip back to the states? Are they pretty quick about getting you thru? About how much time do you think we will have to loose? So which road? 405 to I 190 by Niagra Falls or the QEW to Buffalo? So maybe 401 untill it connects with 403 by Missasugwa (sp) to the 405? Does that miss toll roads? I wasnt planning on getting a bunch of Canadian currency. But........ Our trip up is actually for work. WE only be in town from Aug 29 and leave Sept 1 heading home. Not alot of time to get together and do much. Will be at track from 7am probably until dark and then close to same thing the next day. Head out about 7am (wishful thinking) on Sept 1.

7400 miles is only like 2 oil changes. Shoot aint even broke in yet.

OK working on the planning phase a little more. Crossing in Kingston Ont. So which way is a better ride? Kingston to Bowmanville on the 401 (it looks like interstate to me) and when we can drop down to the coast in a couple spots? Or Kingston up to Elgin to a Hwy 7 and down it to Bowmanville? Also like I said return will be go man go So from Toronto back into states I think someone suggested the Peace bridge or something like that. Is that the quickest place to cross?

Make sure your output is where you want IE speakers or headset. Also check to see if maybe there is a volume output on your XM thingy. My phone if I'm using Pandora I have to crank the volume way way up to hear it on the aux channel of bike.

My 09 had 7400mi on it when I bought it last year. Now has a bit over 12k and runs great. Look at maybe a brake fluid change and your tires on it.

Road Trip. Huh just like a guy needs an excuse for a ride this time of year. Although the weather out you alls way has been sketchy past week or so.

On a different bike a 09 900 vulcan I put a shinko on it. I think I had 5k on it when traded the bike. At the time it looked almost as good as new. It was considerably cheaper than the Pirellis I had been using. It was definatly in the running when I changed tires last year on the RSV. Just so happened that when I was ready to pull the trigger I was doing one last price check of the usual places guys order from and Jake WIlson had some sort of smokin deal. Otherwise it would have been Motorcycle Superstore. They have consitantly for me had the best prices. I went with the Michelin Commander II. On a side note. The guys that have to unfortunatly store thier bikes over the winter, I was thinking even if the Shinko got the 7-8k milage out might not be such a bad thing. You could put a new one on at beginning of season ride all season, store it with last years tire and if need be put a new one on for the up comming year once the snow melts.

I got a pair of e-bay. Of course it came with h-3 bilbs, but ya know........ Under $30 is what I gave.

Yea had spotted a couple on tiger direct for around 40-50. Didnt know how much could record on sd card or how long battery might last. Looks like I would need a fist full for a days rideing.

Wondering is anyone mount up a c amera on thier bike on trips? What kind are you using? Dont want to spend the bucks on go pro. Not sure this is something I am going to do but might be cool on my Canada trip.

djh3 replied to RoyalRider05's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well heck that aint much of a ride. :rotf:Glad you all got it fixed. -
At one time I thought about using wire screen door screen to keep bugs and stones out of the rad. I used a piece of lath on the wifes Durango when we got it. Somone had knocked a hole in the plastic one.

Right now me and my garmin are having a fight. I made a planned route to go up a couple hours to Midnight V4 to pick up a carb tool. Pretty simple eh? Try to import and the route will not show up in the "import" are so I cant even put it in the "custom route" I ended up going to google maps and doing the route and then importing thru garmin site. Anybody ever bought the map update off e-bay on the sd card? I see them everyonce in awhile on craigs list too for like $20.

Big rigs here in Fla are notoriuos for blowing stop lights. Just to much work to gear down and shift I guess. I dont mean close calls either, people are stopped and they blow the horn and run them.

I didnt get the lifetime maps as I figured the way our government works it would take them 20yr to build anything new. Its a good unit, if you find one that is a refurb you can usually get extended warrenty thru square trade for about $15 for 2 yr. I only paid about $50-60 for the unit. It is getting almost impossible to find a unit that has an aux out port and is able to import routes. I think they are trying to force folks into the motorcycle specific models.

Check here. TAADA Thanks V7Goose

I remember reading about this. I think I made braces before mine broke, and I used the zip tie deal to help support it. Thats the repair where you make a bracket to come off a speaker bolt and come out to the end of the windshiled frame right?

I have the less expensinve J&M sets. I have to run pretty high also I think 15 or better. And if I really turn it up so I can hear the wife good I got a bunch of feedback noise. I bought a pair of mic cut outs. I think air rider or something. Essentially does the same thing the mic mute does but is button operated so you have to manualy turn the mic on. I recently built a couple of connectors that I ran along the inter comm cords for ear buds. So now I plug in ear buds and hear the intercom and radio and still use the mic. As far as I know there is no ear buds with a mic. I dont have to run the volumes as high with this set up because the sound is much clearer. Whe the mic button is off you dont hear all the shhhhh either.

I had a home built trailer years ago we pulled behind or Suzuki GS1000. It was only about maybe 2.5' wide x 3' or so tall (box) and maybe 4' long. Being that narrow I never really felt any wind issues. I like the sloped end forward ideas for all the reasons mentioned. If you turn them around I guess you could induce lift at the hitch. Which wouldnt be good.

So for grins I look up the MSDS for the 15w50. Under hazardous materials it says "zinc dithiophophate" LOL That cant be bad for what we want right? The $11 qt V-twin oil shows the same concentration of it. LOL None in the 10w30. Still the Rotella T6 Syn for about $22 gal is a decent buy ($5.50 qt)
