  1. Kevin, it ha ben a couple years since I went HID on mine. Maybe if you post a pic of the questionable part we might be able to help you sort it out. Is it rubber or metal. I have to agree on the chrome trim strip its more a slide/lift on same direction as windshield. There is an article on here on how to fix broken tabs. To bad you cant make a couple little tabs that come up and attach the strip with say a couple 2mm screws or something.
  2. I remember when I lived in Oklahoma. If I was REAL lucky we could get 4 channels over the air. 2 in Lawton OK 1 in Witcha Falls Tx and 1 in Amarillo, oh yea and the PBS out of OKC. Now to get some of them I had the TV antenna pole marked and I would have to manualy move it to get channels to come in. Then I finnaly bought one of them big 10" mesh dish's. At that time ESPN, HBO cina max etc were all unscrambled. Where I live now I dont know what I would get in my area.
  3. Saws all if you have good blades. I would put a couple layers of duct tape on the painted parts you want to save. Maybe a squert or 2 of WD 40 or simular while cutting to help it along. An angle grinder would be my second choice I think. Do you know anybode with a plasma cutter? They are suposed to be really somth and not at all like a gas wrench. Long way around would be find out what kind of lock it is and contact them with the code on the tumbler end. We use to get cars traded in and guys never had the keys to wheel locks, camper tops etc. Takes some time but the wheel lock company could set you up with a key. Camper tops lots of times a brigs and stratton lawnmower key would work, or some pad lock keys.
  4. So I have been entertaining the idea of scrapping comcast. I had HD DVR with triple play I think it is. I have internet (the mid speed it cost me extra) phone and cable TV. So I got some flyers in the mail the other day from dish and direct. Both offer an all in one program. So how is thier internet? Is it subcontracted thru someone else like century link or comcast? I had DSL before comcast and part of the reason I switched is because the DSL couldnt be consistant with internet. Some days speed was good others the game I was using would drop out. It looks to be cheaper to go the sattelite route. But they also dont show the cost for the rental on the DVR box after the "special" or the phone equipment converter thing or extra room outlet boxs etc.
  5. I like that style better than the chrome looking grill deal. Black would be color matched. Lol
  6. Mike just had a vision when I read your post about getting hung up. So the saw get hung, what do you do? Well heck you just give it a tug right? Well supose the cable breaks. Now the saw falls and motor is screaming, saw hits the ground. Blades now act as wheels and traction, across the fields, through the cows. Man this would be as good as a Wyile Cyote cartoon.
  7. Sorry to hear that Mike. Gather the ones that you can and try to enjoy the time left. Her being home she will be alot more comfortable and relaxed. Its tough to loose someone you love and even tougher to know they are here now and may not be in the near future. Enjoy and reminis. Prayers sent your way.

    Why

Rick where you all looking to go? Are you going to have to work also when you move. That may have a pretty big say so in where you look. Different areas are better fro jobs. If you dont have to move for a job and need maybe something part time that frees up some areas. The Gainsville Ocala areas in the middle part of state have better riding I think and the temp may not get a hot as it does in say Ft Lauderdale/Miami area. Cost of living also is higher down there.

Man just watched the 100pm news. Man says we have a cold front heading our way. Its going to be in the 70's by Fri.
  10. Hmm so how often do you think they get the power lines? sure dont seem very precise about trimming, just dangle a saw below and let it cut wherever it hits? Would be much easier to trim them off at ground level.
  11. On specific venture parts I need I usually look here first. Couple of reasons. I figure to help support those that make the parts, someone to talk to if you have problems with said part. Customer service!!!!! If ya got problems they will help you out. Another reason is I figure if a guy made and designed the part for his bike it probably has many many miles of R&D completed.
  12. I use to get offended when I got called a gentleman. I would simply tell them dont cuss at me, I know who my parrents were. (NCO's are cunning and bare watching)
  13. Joe watched the Skyway video. What is the constant clicking type sound? Where you had camera mounted? I have thought about a video camera but looked more in the $50 range from like tiger direct. The go pros are nice and most everything I have seen shot with them is pretty good. I have a friend that has shot alot of video with his sony handi cam though over the years. [ame] [/ame]

Ah there is some good roads. you just have to go find them I supose just like anywhere. Like most states your usually well of on Us highways and state roads. I can make it completly across the state and not be on a 4 lane highway.
  15. OUCH I wont even spend the money for the plastic covered maps. I haven updated my GPS since I got it about 3yr ago. Have there been new roads built? As far as the route you thru the twisties part, well most of the time here in Fla that would be wasted. Kind of like trying to find trees and hills in western Oklahoma.
  16. I realize the chrome and extra goodies are apealing to us. But when it comes right down to it, if a fellow is looking to finance a bike the chrome bit dont mean nothing. The bank dont loan money on chrome. Some bits like the luggage rack and tip over bars they will. Well for the most part, some pieces are listed but over all thats how I look at it. Hard to stomach paying a couple hundred for that fancy piece and it really doesnt add value. I have had OK luck on CL. Not sold alot of stuff but no scammer troubles I can speak of. I sold a rae car finnaly last Jan. Listed it off an on for 2yr or more before got a serious buyer.
  17. Technicly if it comes out after the 2014 models its a 3rd Gen I think.
  18. I dont mind working and engineering some stuff. But me and FI is probably not a great mix. I have limited knowlege and could probably make great smoke and fire. Something with nuts and bolts and instructions (ok instructions are optional) work pretty well.

    Why

Yea Bob you may have a point there. But I can sit by the pool with a cold beverage alot easier than freez my butt shoveling snow. Or just take a nice few days to the mountians and ride. Its only a 600 or so mile trip up.
  20. I have gotten pretty picky about asking for my military discount. Now if its a couple bucks I aint. But WE just bought a refrigerator and you can bet the farm I used it on that. For the most part the folks working there know thier stuff pretty well. I kind of like the "self serv" way of doing things. But there are times I definatly need to talk to someone that has experience. Thank goodness my HD has a guy in electrical that is a former contrator and keeps me from doing something that would burn down the house. The parts store kids still floor me. If they cant look it up on a computer the world grinds to a hault. Got one fellow at Autozone. He sees me now and asks "what you working on today" I tell him and then he will say something like "are the parts your loking for fit that or something else?" :rotf:I went in looking for one of the replacment filters listed here that fit the RSV. Gave him the part number, so around we go whats it fit, what year yada yada. Finnaly he finds it on the shelf. I told him it was for the RSV and he says we dont carry motorcycle parts. Then he finds the filter. I said yes you do and you didnt even know it. Man its fun to be a PIA sometimes.
  21. Smitdog, if you do get the bike this really is a good group of folks. Lots of info for the DIY guy. Heck even if your not folks here will give you a hand and help you do things you never thought you could. Its worth the $12
  22. I think I have read an article or post of someone using the FI off a vmax on thier RSV. Dont recall where though. I dont see why a fellow couldnt.

    Why

I was held captive by uncle sam for 20yr in southwest Oklahoma. The weather there in the winter just is brutal. 10-20 mph wind right at freezing and nasty. So when I got out I headed back to Fla where I spent most of my childhood. I spent all day today trimming and bundleing brush trimmings. I sweat my butt off. But its way way better than shoveling snow.
  24. Best guess from some of the dealers I have talked to is they are going to take a break for a year or two like previous. then reintroduce a "touring bike" May not be called a Venture anymore who knows. Biggest bets is hedged on it following the Roadstar 1700 platform I think is the bike. Whatever one looks like a street glide. As stated thats all rumors and propaganda.
  25. Also several posts on running a seperate cable down the handlebars into the faring and connecting on the backside of the faring by the radio with a splitter cable so you wont have to have the door open all the time. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3905 is a post you need to read up on.
