When I have to get off the bikes I think I'm going for one of the Factory Five AC Cobra replicars. Always loved the little cobra.

I found a group called long distance riders. They have accomplishments for 500 miles in a certain time. I have several of their group, just because thats what works for me. Yes the part of the trip from torontto to bluefield was. Miserable in spots. Only heavy rain maybe 2 hours total. But was more the road mist garbage that fouls up the windshield and your glasses.

Well if I would have read this earlier I might have. But my valve tool arrived a couple days ago and the spark plugs yesterday. So I decided today was the day to start the valve check.. Started @9 am and by noon I finnaly could see the frekin valve covers. Man I knew this would be labor intensive but sure didnt think that long to just get to valve covers. Maybe I should have went riding.

Congrats. I should have planned my ride in Sept a little better. My buddy and I left Toronto Ca on a monday and made it to Bluefield WV. Rained about 1/2 the day. I forget how many miles that was. The next day I already had planned to go all the way home 775 miles. Left there at 7am and was home before 730pm. Included bad traffic in Charlotte, Jacksonville, Orlando and the inevitable big rig drag race up and down the hills of SC on 26 between Columbia and I 95. About 1 or so more gas stops and I would have been there.

So on the 2nd gen is the voltage reg more apt to crap out and then take the stator with it? I dont really run anything extra, other than the passing lights and some LED marker lights. Do I need to watch out for this going bad?- 11 replies

Just a reminder to those in the Fla area the Thunder by the Bay rally is comming up. Jan 9th-12th in Sarasota. Usually a pretty good event. Not sure which day we are going to go, either SAt or Sun would be my guess.

OK did my research and ordered up som parts to make some ignition switch relay by-pass. I made them plug and play. If your interested I should be able to get one to ya $20 shipped.

Fuel delivery sounds to be it. All the stuff bongobobby mentioned and get back to us. -
Carbs have been around a long time, so obviously they work fine. Do I wish it was FI, yea. But obviously the carbs didnt scare any of us off the RSV. Here in the lower 48 our biggest problem culpret seems to be the cruddy gas with the ethanol in it. It likes to collect moisture, dry out fuel lines and other rubber parts and do-dads. I run a tank of seafoam, Baerrymans b-12 or simular product thru about every 4 tanks. For me its about once a month. If the bike is going to site up a few weeks without running I think I would definatly make sure it has seafoam, berrymans or sta-bil in it. I'm guessing you have a secondary location here in the sunshine state. Where abouts are you. WE have guys all over the state that maybe we can get together and have a chat.
-
I have not had a pair of these carbs apart. But Like goose said it could be a non-floating float. If you swapped the needle and seat then that would be the next thing shutting of fuel. I dont know what the floats are made of but I have seen the bakolite (or whatever they are) act like a sponge. Its pretty easy to tell if I remember, they feel heavier than what you think is "normal" They should be almost weightless. The old rochecster 4bbl use to be kinda bad about it.
-
The news reporter said they guys were heard to have said "we will get the gear first then worry about the training". Dont sound like a good plan in any situation.

Most all the 5 pin intercoms for the "older" bikes were wired the same from what others have told me. I have been using this wiring diagram for the pin outs and it has been true to form on my bike.

I would be cautious of the "no boom mic" for reasons of wind noise. I'm guessing they are kind of like a normal bluetooth headset you use in the car or in the airport? I get enough wind noise on my J&M's. And they have the wind socks and are usually under a visor on a 3/4 type helmet. Mike, from the pictures I have seen of your system you should be able to cut the wires going to the speakers for the helmet. Install a 3.5mm jack for like ear buds and velcro it to the helmet (the jack) and use ear buds to hear. The wires are going to be tiny tinny and will burn up quick so be carful. Best luck I had with doing the small wires was to use a small aligator clip on the wire to act as a heat sink. If your not comfortable doing it maybe a friend that messes with ham radios or computers would do it for you.
-
I dont know what your helmet speaker output looks like. But I was in a conversation with some folks on making a headset for the shorty I have. (wired). but a fellow had discribed taking the wires that go the helmet peakers and making a std earphone jack on it and wearing ear buds. I have made a earphone jack on my bike and ran the cable all the way up next to the OEM cable for just this reason. With the shorty I find it hard to hear music etc above 40-50 mph.

Yea I'm running a Nuvi 765T. I'm not completly sure where the volume was when I was trying it. I did think of the nothearing it and got a splitter kind of thing made for lap tops so you could run an in and out audio, then run the 2.5mm adapter. But I have not yet tried it. I think the stupid phone takes a 4 ring pin and the 2x1 adapter might only be 3.
-
Buddy what controls the volume on the phone? Is it the volume on phone? The volume in "IC" or somehow thru the GPS. If I'm slow in a parking lot the wife says she can her me OK, but as speed increases not so good. Also if I find an adapter from the 2.5mm plug to the 3mm can the plug that goes into the GPS be simply plugged into the phone and used?

Hey would you like me to put a list of local u keep key places around? Sebring is only 20 or so miles north on us 27 of lake placid. If your in Bradenton prob best way across is state road 64 to us 27 then head south.

My brother (rest his soul) moved from LA Calif area back to Detriot years ago in the late 60's. when he did he turned the fridge down some a day or so before to get stuff nice and cool. The day they left he pulled the plug, duct taped the dors shut and loaded er up in the pic-up. Drove back to Mich. I would have to imagine that was atleast a 3 day trip. Only thing that happened was 2 eggs were broken.
-
Yea we are expecting a cold fron here next couple days too. But I dont think its quite as bad. Mid to high 60s Christmas day.
