I know the Canada deal is different. You sort of pay your insurance thru your vehicle tags. I think Fla is mandatory you have insurance, but I have only one time had to produce paperwork when paying for tags. In Oklahoma every year they checked and if your insurance lapsed they notified the Hwy Patrol. They didnt come after you but would look and check it out. Then revoke you tags, make you buy them again and fine you. We still had peeps with no insurance. But I dont think it was as bad. At 750 a year for a bike that is 5yr old I can see why some elect to not carry insurance. I have had to drop my 96 Dodge pick up down to liability only (although I do carry a high 100/300) or else in a couple years time I would pay more in ins than the truck is worth. Maybe I have the deductible to high, right now its $250. But I have been comparing apples to apples, same coverage's I currently carry so I know what it would be. I am supposed to get a discount thru Nationwide with my company. So When I checked the site it says to call an agent. I think Farmers when I checked last would not cover a stand alone motorcycle policy. I hate this insurance crap shoot. Your betting your going to crash and they are betting your not. And if you do, they jack the rates up to be in their favor the next time around.

Here is an LED bulb that is reported to work well. Not some cheapo knock off LED. Steve may remember the discussion over on the Delphi board about it. I really like my HID but I seem to be struggling even after almost 2 yrs of being happy about the aim/adjustment of the beam. It doesnt seem to be low enough to suit me.

Thats not terrible at all. I always get confused what type is which. ATO, AGC Enough in that package to just about cover it I think.

Hope it goes well for you all. Weather is soooo sketchy. Not looking good here in Fla. I have been off from work for medical since Feb 21. -
Well I cant tell you if its that exact kit or not, yes I have installed an HID conversion on mine. It is definitely a step up from the OEM bulb. Originally when I bought the RSV I installed a bulb I removed from my 900 Vulcan. A 80/100w bulb. It also had a modulator on it, and was kick a$$ at night. After reading some posts I got worried I was taxing the poor wires for the headlight. So I read up on the HID thing. Its a good alternative, although you can not run a modulator with it. Also with the HID you need to look at a separate switch or some way of starting the bulb after the bike is running. The ballast of the HID has an under voltage feature built in. So what happens is you turn key on, bulb comes on, then you hit button to run starter, voltage drops below threshold and light goes off until bike starts and bulb restarts. Now this may not sound to bad, but the bulb is like a carbon arc torch and every time it has to start it decreases its life cycle. Flyinfool I think gave me a diagram to build a small toggle switch set up with a flashing LED warning light. He has since figured out how to trip the light with the brake light switch to connect the relay on the HID harness to turn it on. All the relays, ballest and such are easy to hide under the fairing on the RSV.

I know an older post. But its that time again it seems. On an earlier post in this thread I had just changed from Geico to Formost AARP. That change because the lil green guy went up like $100 in 2 years. Well guess what? Foremost went up better than $100 for renewal this year. My coverage for 100/300 full coverage is @ $742 a year. Thats just plain crazy. I have been looking most of the day. I hate doing that because it puts all kinds of spikes and stuff in credit report and messes it up. Plus I will get e-mails and phone calls for months now. Least expensive I have had quoted is Dairyland @ 633yr. Because of the uninsured motorist (which we have a ton of) that cost alone is $450 on Foremost.

Thanks Barry. Those are kind of the ones I have been looking at. I dont care for zip up boots. Had some years ago in the USAF and they always felt loose on my feet. Also get a discount thru the company for 511. My year old plus Wolverines are to the point very little tread on bottoms. Also I dont like a boot with the deep huge treads on the bottom. They pick up to much junk.

Were'nt they running them things down an ice chute here a few weeks back?

You looking for the allen that holds the peg on? Or the or the bolt that holds the angle part where the pad goes?

Plenty of good winter driving weather here in Fla. Worst part about our winter driving is the snow birds. Plenty of houses for sale too. No state income tax

If you can afford the motorcycle purpose built units, they are the way to go. Unfortunately regular car units seem to be loosing good features like, loadable custom routes. MP3 player, blue-tooth aux output and inputs. I have been using a Garmin 765T. Its an older unit and I picked it up refurb off e-bay for around $60-70. I can create a custom route on my PC, load it into the GPS. As far as I know the newer 4 digit Garmins you cant do this. Also mine has an Aux output so you can connect to the bike radio. It also has a GPS built into it. Yes if your going to ride into a rain storm its best to cover it up. I have run thru showers before, you know the ones that pop up and you dont know where they came from. I have run thru them and it has got a few drops on it and still is fine. Truth is behind the windscreen on the handlebars it takes a pretty good soaking before it gets wet. check this place out. These folks are very knowledgeable and can help out if you have questions. Also the Garmin site. Look under "discontinued" and maybe you can find something with the features you like. Look in the current models, but I doubt you will find anything that has Aux out and be programmable.

Cool Glad to hear things are going good.

I have an old Weller dual range solder gun. Man I have been using the heck out of it here the last few months making by-pass relay harness. I just bought a cargo trailer and one of the clearance lights was out. Man that bulb is silver. Have not seen to many do that. Upon a little closer inspection the wires from the main harness to that light were twisted together and had the ole black electrical tape barley on it. Looks to me like it shorted out against the fender. I worked for U-haul back in the late 70"s as an area traveling mechanic. Mostly on the truck side of stuff. But man with them things being at different dealers all over and folks adding lights and fixing stuff, you would get a light FUBAR and the back of the truck would be no lights anywhere. I had one that had a couple of rear light assy bad so I took apart to change. That thing had like 4-5 scotch loc's on each light where it had been replaced before and the jerk previous just used a scotch loc to add the "new" light to the truck. Lights flickering, you can rest assured a scotch loc is probably somewhere to blame. Sometimes they are inevitable but I hate the dang things. Kind of like going to the dentist.

I have on ly had one pair of boots beside regular rain type boots that have been "water proof". Those are a pair of GI issue (when I was active duty) Matterhorn Gortex. They are like 10" or more high and warm. I wear them if I'm riding and its cold. other than that I just make sure they are polished good and have a coat of boot polish on them I have had very little problem with wet feet. Something I learned working for our Uncle Sam. Barry which 511 do you have. How do you like them?

You know with my old smart phone maybe. With the Galaxy S2 no way. Its bigger than the slot.
-
Man If I would have left 2 days ago I could have made the ride. LOl Your going to Tx on purpose?

I have been wearing the Wolverine Dura Shocks for a couple years now. I am on my feet sometimes 18-20hr a day without much of a brake. And up until the last year it pretty much stopped the heel pain.

Are you sure the switch is getting a long enough range of motion to activate. I have not heard of one getting out of adjustment but no we are looking for something out of the ordinary. I am not sure where the connectors are or if the 2 switches have different connectors, but maybe you could plug the known good one into the brake handle to check out that wiring. You are probably at the point you are going to need a multi meter to trouble shoot the switch to see if it is good. Which may be easier than chasing connectors. Switch in normal (off) should read "open" closed (brakes on) should read 000 or close maybe 002 or something close. I'm sure if I'm wrong someone will chime in here and straighten me out. Do all the other lights work normally, signals, headlight running lights etc? Just pokin in the dark a little. Someone else just had there spedo and radio go poof. Everything else worked. turns out the fuse looked good but in truth was bad, did not OHM out correctly. I dont know if maybe the front switch is fused seperatly from the rear as a "safety" precaution in case maybe one or the other goes bad the other would still work.
-
I have heard way to many times about wires getting caught there. Mine included. Only I did not catch mine in time. Turned once and poof blew fuses, no lights. Looked like a pair of scissors had been taken to the wires.
-
Did you locate the reason it got chaffed? I will use a piece of vacuum hose or whatever size hose I need, split it and wrap around the affected wire or wires. Heat shrink is the option but you would have to cut the wire and solder it. And I know how hard it is to work up in that area. I pinched my passing lights wires in the travel stop and created a mess.
-
OH MY I got one of these stump the panel questions right, before one of the masters. I don't know what to think. Rick experience is what made me think of the ohm out deal. Like I said I got off a 3300+ mile trip. Never had a lick of trouble. 2 days later when to go to store and nothing, not a click no lights nothing. I had to read an hours worth of threads to figure out where to look first. It boggles the mind that the new type fuses can look good and not have continuity. The old glass jobs I had some of them burn the filament at the end and you couldn't tell. I guess I need to look into these here new fangled LED fuses. Glad you got it fixed.

sometimes I have a hard enough time seeing where I'm going much less that maybe blocking my vision. Kind of a neat idea though.

I'm really partial to blue, even though mine is red. LOL But I like hard bags and electronic cruise also. But I'm not buying. Maybe youll get some nice weather to help you decide.
